The design of the Mars Ascent Vehicle - Mars Sample Return (MAV-MSR) trajectories requires an accurate assessment of flight performance. Typically, these trajectories are developed by flight mechanics analysis to meet complex mission requirements and then flight performance assessed through Monte Carlo simulations. Consequently, it is crucial to develop an aerodynamic aerodatabase as an input model for flight mechanics analysis to provide static and dynamic force and moment coefficients under specific flight conditions. The force and moment coefficients in the MAV aerodatabase are determined using the FUN3D computational fluid dynamics solver. Firstly, an overview of the aerodatabase is presented to demonstrate its applicability to trajectory-defined simulations. This effort is followed by an initial attempt to quantify uncertainties in the force and moment coefficients necessary for updating the current aerodatabase. The uncertainty model identifies uncertainty adders and multipliers for coefficient-based forces and moments through a direct comparison between FUN3D and wind tunnel test data from NASA Marshall Space Center's 14x14 inch Trisonic Wind Tunnel. These uncertainties aim to encompass various changes in Mach number, angle of attack, and aerodynamic roll angle.

NASA GSFC has been reviewing and categorizing 40 years’ worth of on-orbit anomaly data to support broad assessments of radiation-related risk and the development of tools to rigorously assess risk in general project situations. This talk will highlight the intermediate results of the collection effort combined with a data review of various on-orbit experiences of nonconventional electronics.
Fire significantly impacts both human-altered and wild landscapes on national and global scales. Though often devastating, wildland fires naturally reduce fuels, preventing larger wildfires. However, their smoke can harm human health locally and globally. To understand its impact on air quality and health, quantifying the emissions released into the atmosphere is crucial. To accurately model fire emissions, understanding fuel characteristics and burning conditions is crucial, as they vary with the fuelbed type and fire weather. For example, savanna fires have lower carbon loading and intensity but spread quickly, while boreal forest fires burn longer and release more carbon due to higher loading. Hotter, drier conditions increase fuel consumption and smoke plume height. Fire weather and available fuel are the key drivers of emissions.

An exemplary method of displaying a data visualization includes retrieving a dataset that includes a plurality of fields and displaying a graphical user interface with a plurality of shelves. The method further includes receiving user actions to: (i) associate a first field with a first shelf, and (ii) associate a second field with a second shelf; displaying, in accordance with the received user actions, a data visualization, where each data mark has a first size defined according to a default position of a displayed slidable affordance; and receiving an additional user action that moves the slidable affordance from the default position to a user-defined position. In response to receiving the additional user action, the method further includes updating the data visualization, where each data mark included in the updated data visualization has a second size, different from the first size, defined according to the user-defined position of the slidable affordance.
