We derive exact general solutions (as opposed to attractor particular solutions) and corresponding first integrals for the evolution of a scalar field $\phi$ in a universe dominated by a background fluid with equation of state parameter wB. In addition to the previously examined linear [V($\phi$)=V 0 $\phi$] and quadratic [V($\phi$)=V 0 $\phi$ 2 ] potentials, we show that exact solutions exist for the power-law potential V($\phi$)=V 0 $\phi$ n with n=4(1+w B )/(1-w B )+2 and n=2(1+w B )/(1-w B ). These correspond to the potentials V($\phi$)=V 0 $\phi$ 6 and V($\phi$)=V 0 $\phi$ 2 for matter domination and V($\phi$)=V 0 $\phi$ 10 and V($\phi$)=V 0 $\phi$ 4 for radiation domination. The $\phi$ 6 and $\phi$ 10 potentials can yield either oscillatory or nonoscillatory evolution, and we use the first integrals to determine how the initial conditions map onto each form of evolution. The exponential potential yields an exact solution for a stiff/kination (w B =1) background. We use this exact solution to derive an analytic expression for the evolution of the equation of state parameter, $w_\phi$, for this case.

A near-future detection of the 21-cm signal from the epoch of reionization will provide unique opportunities to probe the underlying cosmology, provided that such cosmological information can be extracted with precision. To this end, we further develop effective field theory (EFT) inspired techniques for the 21-cm brightness temperature field during the epoch of reionization, incorporating renormalized bias and a treatment of redshift space distortions. Notably, we confirm that in redshift space, measures of the 21-cm brightness, e.g., the power spectrum, should have irreducible contributions that lack a bias coefficient and therefore contain direct, astrophysics-free information about the cosmological density field; in this work, we study this effect beyond linear order. To validate our theoretical treatment, we fit the predicted EFT Fourier-space shapes to the thesan suite of hydrodynamical simulations of reionization at the field level, where the considerable number of modes prevents overfitting. We find agreement at the level of a few percent between the 21-cm power spectrum from the EFT fits and simulations over the wave number range k ≲ 0.8 h/Mpc and neutral fraction x HI ≳ 0.4, which is imminently measurable by the Hydrogen Epoch of Reionization Array and future experiments. Furthermore, the ability of the EFT to describe the 21-cm signal extends to simulations that have different astrophysical prescriptions for reionization as well as simulations with interacting dark matter.

Here, we present a novel construction of the QCD equation of state (EoS) at finite baryon density. Our work combines a recently proposed resummation scheme for lattice QCD results with the universal critical behavior at the QCD critical point. This allows us to obtain a family of equations of state in the range 0 ≤ 𝜇 𝐵 ≤ 700 MeV and 25 MeV ≤ 𝑇 ≤ 800 MeV, which match lattice QCD results near 𝜇 𝐵 =0 while featuring a critical point in the 3D Ising model universality class. The position of the critical point can be chosen within the range accessible to beam-energy scan heavy-ion collision experiments. The strength of the singularity and the shape of the critical region are parametrized using a standard parameter set. We impose stability and causality constraints and discuss the available ranges of critical point parameter choices, finding that they extend beyond earlier parametric QCD EoS proposals. We present thermodynamic observables, including baryon density, pressure, entropy density, energy density, baryon susceptibility and speed of sound, that cover a wide range in the QCD phase diagram relevant for experimental exploration.
Local-type primordial non-Gaussianity (PNG), predicted by many nonminimal models of inflation, creates a scale-dependent contribution to the power spectrum of large-scale structure tracers. Its amplitude is characterized by the product bϕfNLloc, where bϕ is an astrophysical parameter dependent on the properties of the tracer. However, bϕ exhibits significant secondary dependence on halo concentration and other astrophysical properties, which may bias and weaken the constraints on fNLloc. In this work, we demonstrate that incorporating knowledge of the relation between Lagrangian bias parameters and bϕ can significantly enhance PNG constraints. We employ the hybrid effective field theory approach at the field level and a linear regression model to seek a connection between the bias parameters and bϕ for halo and galaxy samples, constructed using the abacussummit simulation suite and mimicking the luminous red galaxies and quasistellar objects of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument survey. For the fixed-mass halo samples, our full bias model reduces the uncertainty by more than 70%, with most of that improvement coming from b∇, which we find to be an excellent proxy for concentration. For the galaxy samples, our model reduces the uncertainty on bϕ by 80% for all tracers. By adopting Lagrangian-bias informed priors on the parameter bϕ, future analyses can thus constrain fNLloc with less bias and smaller errors.
