Characterizing the energy resolution of the MicroBooNE LArTPC at the MeV scale using monoenergetic features of $^{208}$Tl decays

A detailed understanding of the capabilities and fidelity of low-energy reconstruction is crucial for taking advantage of MeV-scale neutrino physics opportunities in liquid argon time projection chambers (LArTPCs). This study presents a measurement of the resolution of reconstructed energy in the MicroBooNE LArTPC at $\approx 1.5$ MeV. The characterization is performed using monoenergetic signals generated by $2.614$ MeV $γ$-rays from $^{208}$Tl decays undergoing pair production in the detector. The resolution is found to be ($7.52 \pm 0.78 \text{(stat)} \pm 0.92 \text{(syst)}$)%. This value is consistent with the MicroBooNE simulation prediction of ($9.70 \pm 0.65 \text{(stat)}$)% at the $1.6 σ$ level. This study represents the first ever measurement of LArTPC energy resolution at the MeV scale and provides a pathway for monoenergetic energy calibrations in future experiments using LArTPC detectors.

Dark Photons from Perturbative Decay of a Misaligned Higgs Field

We reconsider the production of dark photons $A'$ as dark matter, from the perturbative decay of a dark Higgs field $h$, that is stochastically misaligned from the minimum of its potential during inflation. This is a simple and predictive framework for generating the $A'$ relic abundance. It is constrained by structure formation, since the $A'$ are initially boosted, and inflationary isocurvature fluctuations, which require small quartic couplings $λh^4$. We identify $A'$ masses between 100 eV and 1 GeV and gauge couplings $g\sim 10^{-15}-10^{-10}$ that are consistent in this scenario, and which become more tightly constrained if a generic level of kinetic mixing is present. The favored parameter region could be tested through future CMB or Lyman-$α$ observations, and, in the presence of kinetic mixing, by direct detection experiments or diffuse soft gamma-ray searches.

Half-Life and Precision Shape Measurement of the 2⁢𝜈⁢𝛽⁢𝛽 Decay of 130 Te

Here, we present a new measurement of the 2⁢𝜈⁢𝛽⁢𝛽 half-life of 130 Te (𝑇$^{2⁢𝜈}_{1/2}$) using the first complete model of the CUORE data, based on 1038 kg yr of collected exposure. Thanks to optimized data selection, we achieve a factor of two improvement in precision, obtaining 𝑇$^{2⁢𝜈}_{1/2}$ = (9.32⁢$^{+0.05}_{−0.04}$⁢stat⁢ $^{+0.07}_{−0.07}$⁢syst)×10 20 yr. The signal-to-background ratio is increased by 70% compared to our previous results, enabling the first application of the improved 2⁢𝜈⁢𝛽⁢𝛽 formalism to 130 Te . Within this framework, we determine a credibility interval for the effective axial coupling in the nuclear medium as a function of nuclear matrix elements. We also extract values for the higher-order nuclear matrix element ratios: second-to-first and third-to-first. The second-to-first ratio agrees with nuclear model predictions, while the third-to-first ratio deviates from theoretical expectations. These findings provide essential tests of nuclear models and key inputs for future 0⁢𝜈⁢𝛽⁢𝛽 searches.
