Beyond DERMS: Demonstration of Automated Grid Services, Mode Transition, and Resilience
This report describes the results of more advanced use cases including Ancillary Services, Black-sky-day operation, and Mode Switching from Phase 3 of the “Beyond DERMS” project aiming to build, deploy, and demonstrate a holistic platform that supports the integrated operation and planning of future power distribution networks with bi-directional power flows, many diverse distributed energy resources (DERs), and inverter-based resources. These test results demonstrated how a Beyond DERMS platform can fuse together AMI, SCADA, and DER data to provide a utility with deep insights into distribution network operations and planning, extending the value of DERMS and BTM DER resources.

Transformation of the Distribution System: Distributed and Resilient Optimal Power Flow
This grant funded a Market and Technology Assessment project which included 1) an analysis of the total addressable market (TAM) for the RT-OPF technology; 2) a segmented assessment of North American utility business models and barriers to adoption of the RT-OPF technology for those models; 3) a validation of DER customer needs and barriers to participation in utility programs; and 4) a forward-looking analysis of utility regulatory innovation and changes that may impact utility business models and ability for utilities to adopt this technology.
Modular Control Architecture for Scalable, Resilient, and Cybersecure Microgrids Test Results [Mojave firmware 1.09 FW valuation]
This quick note outlines what we found after our conversion with you and your team. As suggested, we loaded 1547-2003 source requirements document (SRD) and then went back and loaded 1547-2018 SRD. This did result in implementing the new 1547-2018 settings. This short report focuses on the frequency-watt function and shows a couple of screen shots of the parameter settings via the Mojave HMI interface and plots of the results of the inverter with FW function enabled in both default and most aggressive settings response to frequency events. The first screen shot shows the 1547-2018 selected after selecting 1547-2003.

Electromagnetic Pulse – Resilient Electric Grid for National Security: Research Program Executive Summary
Sandia National Laboratories sponsored a three-year internally funded Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) effort to investigate the vulnerabilities and mitigations of a high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) on the electric power grid. The research was focused on understanding the vulnerabilities and potential mitigations for components and systems at the high voltage transmission level. Results from the research included a broad array of subtopics, covered in twenty-three reports and papers, and which are highlighted in this executive summary report. These subtopics include high altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) characterization, HEMP coupling analysis, system-wide effects, and mitigating technologies.
ReNCAT: The Resilient Node Cluster Analysis Tool
ReNCAT is a software application that suggests microgrid portfolios that reduce the impact of large-scale disruptions to power, as measured by the Social Burden Metric. ReNCAT examines a power distribution network to identify regions that can be isolated into microgrids that enable critical services to be provided even if the remainder of the study area is left without power. ReNCAT operates on a simplified representation of the power grid, one that aggregates and approximates loads and conductors. Microgrids are formed within the power network by setting switch states to split or join portions of the grid. ReNCAT identifies candidate microgrid portfolios with varying tradeoffs between cost and service availability.
