Control of matrix converters using machine learning

A method of controlling a matrix converter system is provided. The method includes receiving an operating condition and consulting a trained Q-data structure for reward values associated with respective switching states of the switching matrix for an operating state that corresponds to the operating condition. The Q-data structure is trained using Q-learning to map a reward value predicted for respective switching states to respective discrete operating states. The method further includes sorting the reward values predicted for the respective switching states mapped to the operating state that corresponds to the operating condition, selecting a subset of the set of the mappings as a function of a result of sorting the reward values associated with the switching states of the operating state, evaluating each switching state included in the subset, and selecting an optimal switching state for the operating condition based on a result of evaluating the switching states of the subset.

Patch2Self2: Self-supervised Denoising on Coresets via Matrix Sketching

Diffusion MRI (dMRI) non-invasively maps brain white matter yet necessitates denoising due to low signal-to-noise ratios. Patch2Self (P2S) employing self-supervised techniques and regression on a Casorati matrix effectively denoises dMRI images and has become the new de-facto standard in this field. P2S however is resource intensive both in terms of running time and memory usage as it uses all voxels (n) from all-but-one held-in volumes (d-1) to learn a linear mapping Phi : \mathbb R ^ n x(d-1) \mapsto \mathbb R ^ n for denoising the held-out volume. The increasing size and dimensionality of higher resolution dMRI acquisitions can make P2S infeasible for large-scale analyses. This work exploits the redundancy imposed by P2S to alleviate its performance issues and inspect regions that influence the noise disproportionately. Specifically this study makes a three-fold contribution: (1) We present Patch2Self2 (P2S2) a method that uses matrix sketching to perform self-supervised denoising. By solving a sub-problem on a smaller sub-space so called coreset we show how P2S2 can yield a significant speedup in training time while using less memory. (2) We present a theoretical analysis of P2S2 focusing on determining the optimal sketch size through rank estimation a key step in achieving a balance between denoising accuracy and computational efficiency. (3) We show how the so-called statistical leverage scores can be used to interpret the denoising of dMRI data a process that was traditionally treated as a black-box. Experimental results on both simulated and real data affirm that P2S2 maintains denoising quality while significantly enhancing speed and memory efficiency achieved by training on a reduced data subset.

Glass-ceramic matrix composite feedstock and forming

A method of forming a part includes forming a glass-ceramic matrix composite material to form a pre-consolidated feedstock sheet with a pre-determined shape. The pre-consolidated feedstock sheet is sectioned into a first piece of pre-consolidated feedstock sheet and a second piece of pre-consolidated feedstock sheet. The first piece of pre-consolidated feedstock sheet and a second piece of pre-consolidated feedstock sheet are assembled with a second piece of pre-consolidated feedstock sheet to form a composite layup. The first piece of pre-consolidated feedstock sheet and the second piece of pre-consolidated feedstock sheet are joined by compressing the composite layup to form a glass-ceramic matrix composite part.

Baryogenesis via the CKM Matrix with Minimal Flavor Violation

It is often claimed Standard Model CP violation is insufficient for baryogenesis. We present a counterexample using minimal flavor violation (MFV) in which all CP-violating effects arise from the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix. Our scenario involves a leptoquark field with MFV-preserving interactions whose decays to Standard Model particles yield the observed baryon asymmetry in the early universe. Unlike previous efforts to realize baryogenesis through the CP violation of the CKM matrix, our scenario does not require any time-variation of model parameters.

Perturbative unorientable JT gravity and matrix models

We consider an orthogonal polynomial formulation of the double scaling limit of multicritical matrix models in the β = 1 Dyson-Wigner class. They capture the physics of 2D quantum gravity coupled to minimal matter on unorientable surfaces, otherwise called unoriented minimal strings. We derive a formula for the density of states valid to all orders in perturbation theory. We show how to define an interpolation between the multicritical models and that a certain interpolation among an infinite number of them provides an alternative definition of unoriented JT gravity. We discuss the strengths and weaknesses of our formulation.

Phase identification using co‐association matrix ensemble clustering

Calibrating distribution system models to aid in the accuracy of simulations such as hosting capacity analysis is increasingly important in the pursuit of the goal of integrating more distributed energy resources. The recent availability of smart meter data is enabling the use of machine learning tools to automatically achieve model calibration tasks. This research focuses on applying machine learning to the phase identification task, using a co‐association matrix‐based, ensemble spectral clustering approach. The proposed method leverages voltage time series from smart meters and does not require existing or accurate phase labels. This work demonstrates the success of the proposed method on both synthetic and real data, surpassing the accuracy of other phase identification research.

Neutral excitations of quantum Hall states: A density matrix renormalization group study

We use the dynamical structure factors of the quantum Hall states at ν = 1 / 3 and 1 / 2 in the lowest Landau level to study their excitation spectrum. Using the density matrix renormalization group in combination with the time-dependent variational principle on an infinite cylinder geometry, we extract the low-energy properties. At ν = 1 / 3 , a sharp magnetoroton mode and the two-roton continuum are present and the finite-size effects can be understood using the fractional charge of the quasiparticle. At ν = 1 / 2 , we find low-energy modes with linear dispersion and the static structure factor s ¯ ( q ) ~ ( q ℓ ) 3 in the limit q ℓ → 0 . The properties of these modes agree quantitatively with the predictions of the composite-fermion theory placed on the infinite cylinder.

Unveiling the Morphological and Physical Mechanism of Burn–in Loss Alleviation by Ternary Matrix Toward Stable and Efficient All–Polymer Solar Cells

All–polymer solar cells (All–PSCs) are considered the most promising candidate in achieving both efficient and stable organic photovoltaic devices, yet the field has rarely presented an in–depth understanding of corresponding device stability while efficiency is continuously boosted via the innovation of polymer acceptors. Herein, a ternary matrix is built for all–PSCs with optimized morphology, improved film ductility and importantly, boosted efficiency and better operational stability than its parental binary counterparts, as a platform to study the underlying mechanism. The target system PQM–Cl:PTQ10:PY–IT (0.8:0.2:1.2) exhibits an alleviated burn–in loss of morphology and efficiency under light soaking, which supports its promoted device lifetime. The comprehensive characterizations of fresh and light–soaked active layers lead to a clear illustration of opposite morphological and physical degradation direction of PQM–Cl and PTQ10, thus resulting in a delicate balance at the optimal ternary system. Specifically, the enlarging tendency of PQM–Cl and shrinking preference of PTQ10 in terms of phase separation leads to a stable morphology in their mixing phase; the hole transfer kinetics of PQM–Cl:PY–IT host is stabilized by incorporating PTQ10. Finally, this work succeeds in reaching a deep insight into all–PSC's stability promotion by a rational ternary design, which booms the prospect of gaining high–performance all–PSCs.

The S-matrix of 2D type 0B string theory. Part II. D-instanton effects

We study the effect of D-instantons on closed string scattering amplitudes in the two-dimensional type 0B string theory from the worldsheet perspective. We find that the contribution from a pair of D-instanton and anti-D-instanton to the closed string reflection amplitude, with a suitable contour prescription for the integration over the D-instanton moduli space, agrees with the corresponding leading non-perturbative corrections in the proposed dual matrix quantum mechanics. This analysis is further extended to thermal observables defined at finite temperature. The infrared divergence in charged processes is understood through the measure factor for charged D-instantons, and can be treated with spacetime dimensional regularization.
