Six alinement templates are used to trim-cut majority of boards fabricated. Their use has reduced time required for cutting operation and has also reduced high rejection rate of cut boards to near zero.
W-Hf-C/superalloy composites were found to be potentially useful for turbine blade applications on the basis of stress-rupture strength. The 100-and 1000-hour rupture strengths obtained for 70 volume percent fiber composites tested at 1090 C were 420 and 280 MN/sq m (61,000 and 41,000 psi). The investigation indicated that with better quality fibers, composites having 100- and 1000-hour rupture strengths of 570 and 370 MN/sq m (82,000 and 54,000 psi) may be obtained. Metallographic studies indicated sufficient fiber-matrix compatibility for long time applications at 1090 C for 1000 hours or more.
The effects of external mechanical and climatic actions on the efficient operation of magnetic tape recording equipment are analyzed. The efficiency and reliability of the recording system are determined by the structural parameters and the characteristics of the individual elements of the transport mechanism circuit. The resistance of tape recording equipment to the effects of vibration is considered essential for reliable operations. Methods for insuring reliable tape transport and recording action are discussed.
The process of manufacturing grids, the peculiarities of the structural design, the fittings, the requirements on the tools and work area are discussed.
Tungsten-hafnium-carbon - superalloy composites were found to be potentially useful for turbine blade applications on the basis of stress-rupture strength. The 100- and 1000-hr rupture strengths calculated for 70 vol. % fiber composites based on test data at 1090C (2000F) were 420 and 280 MN/m2 (61,000 and 41,000 psi, respectively). The investigation indicated that, with better quality fibers, composites having 100- and 1000-hr rupture strengths of 570 and 370 MN/m2 (82,000 and 54,000 psi, respectively), may be obtained. Metallographic studies indicated sufficient fiber-matrix compatibility for 1000 hr or more at 1090C (2000F).

Experimental board includes three layers of special tridirectionally woven fabric. Alumina particles play major role in reducing coefficient of expansion. They also serve as heat sink for heat-generating components.
Fabrication methods for tungsten fiber reinforced nickel-base superalloy composites were investigated. Three matrix alloys in pre-alloyed powder or rolled sheet form were evaluated in terms of fabricability into composite monotape and multi-ply forms. The utility of monotapes for fabricating more complex shapes was demonstrated. Preliminary 1093C (2000F) stress rupture tests indicated that efficient utilization of fiber strength was achieved in composites fabricated by diffusion bonding processes. The fabrication of thermal fatigue specimens is also described.
A heated-element, skin-friction gage employing a very low thermal conductivity support is described. It is shown that the effective dimension of the gage in the stream direction in only 0.06 mm, including the effects of heat conduction in the supporting material. Because of its small size, the calibration of the gage is independent of the kind of boundary-layer flow (whether laminar or turbulent) and is insensitive to pressure gradients. Construction tolerances can be maintained so that a single universal calibration can be applied. Multiple gages, sufficiently closely spaced so as to interfere with each other, are shown to provide accurate determinations of the locations of the points of boundary-layer separation and reattachment.

High-temperature platinum probe measures turbulence and Reynolds shear stresses in high-temperature compressible flows. Probe does not vibrate at high velocities and does not react like strain gage on warmup.
Nickel-plated spring-steel foil connector is hollow pin, with lengthwise slit, that is inserted into improperly plated-through holes. Edges of connector make positive contact with copper pads within hole.
Device operates in supersonic and hypersonic wind tunnels at temperatures of 700 to 760 C.
The successful development of a unique yet simple reeling system for handling long trailing tensile members at high speeds is described. This high speed when combined with the system simplicity, low weight and effective motive power consumption make this reeling system particularly attractive to LTA planners and designers for numerous LTA missions.
Results from an intensive FBW advanced development effort indicate significant improvements in overall flight control system performance, reliability, safety and maintainability. Additionally, the strong and credible FBW technology base developed as a result paved the way for further exploitation through the application of advanced concepts such as control configured vehicles and multi-mode controls.

A coaxial cylinder configuration is used to investigate the effect of corona impulses on the deterioration of electrical insulation. The corona currents flowing through the resistance develop a voltage which is fed to the measuring set-up. The value of this resistance is made equal to the surge impedance of the coaxial cylinder set up to prevent reflections. This instrumentation includes a phase shifter and Schmidt trigger and is designed to sample, measure, and display corona impulses occurring during any predetermined sampling period of a randomly selectable half cycle of the 60 Hz high voltage wave.
