Higgs boson pair production via gluon fusion at N 3 LO in QCD
We present next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order ( N 3 LO ) QCD predictions for the Higgs boson pair production via gluon fusion at hadron colliders in the infinite top-quark mass limit. Besides the inclusive total cross sections at various collision energies, we also provide the invariant mass distribution of the Higgs boson pair. Our results show that the N 3 LO QCD corrections enhance the next-to-next-to-leading order cross section by 3.0% (2.7%) at s = 13 ( 100 ) TeV , while the scale uncertainty is reduced substantially below 3% (2%). We also find that a judicious scale choice can significantly improve the perturbative convergence. For the invariant mass distribution, our calculation demonstrates that the N 3 LO corrections improve the scale dependence but almost do not change the shape.

Reprocessable polyhydroxyurethane networks reinforced with reactive polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) and exhibiting excellent elevated temperature creep resistance
The rapid development of covalent adaptable networks or vitrimers shows promise for addressing the long-standing recycling issues associated with conventional, permanently cross-linked thermosets. At the same time, it is important to demonstrate that properties of reprocessable polymer networks can be optimized to meet the ongoing demand for high-performance materials. We have fabricated reprocessable polyhydroxyurethane (PHU) network composites reinforced with reactive polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS). With functionalized POSS serving as a fraction of the cross-linkers, the PHU–POSS network nanocomposites exhibit significantly enhanced storage modulus at the rubbery plateau region relative to the neat PHU network. With up to 10 wt% POSS loading, these network composites can undergo melt-state reprocessing at 140 °C with 100% property recovery associated with cross-link density. We also show that hydroxyurethane dynamic chemistry leads to excellent creep resistance at elevated temperature up to 90 °C and is unaffected by reactive incorporation of POSS. In conclusion, this study demonstrates the effectiveness of POSS as nanofillers for designing high-performance, organic-inorganic dynamic PHU networks with excellent reprocessability.
Impact of sanitizer application on Salmonella mitigation and microbiome shift on diced tomato during washing and storage
Here, this study examined the shift in Salmonella and indigenous microbiota on diced tomato after washing with three different sanitizers and during post-wash cold storage. Roma tomatoes were inoculated with a Salmonella cocktail (initial level ~ 5.6 CFU g –1 ), diced and washed along with uninoculated diced tomato in simulated flume wash water with sanitizers, including 10 mg L –1 free chlorine (FC10), 90 mg L –1 peracetic acid (PA90), PA90 in combination with a proprietary acidified surfactant blend (PS90), and unsanitized control (CK). Salmonella, total mesophilic aerobic bacteria (MAB), and yeast and mold (YM) populations on both inoculated and uninoculated samples were measured before and after washing, and during storage at 4 °C. 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing was also performed to determine the shift in bacterial microbiome. Washing with all tested sanitizers, especially PS90 (> 4 log Salmonella reduction), reduced Salmonella and MAB populations on inoculated diced tomatoes. Additionally, application of sanitizers mitigated Salmonella cross-contamination onto uninoculated samples. PS90 treatment inhibited the proliferation of most dominant bacteria on diced tomatoes during storage, including Erwiniaceae, Curtobacterium, Pantoea, Erwinia and Enterobacterales, which may benefit product quality and safety.

Valued peaks: Sustainable water allocation for small hydropower plants in an era of explicit ecological needs
Optimizing hydropower operations to balance economic profitability and support functioning ecosystem services is integral to river management policy. In this article, we propose a dynamic, constrained optimization framework for small hydropower plants (SHPs) to evaluate trade-offs between economic profitability and socio-ecological requirements. Specifically, we examine the balance between short-term losses in hydropower generation and the potential for compensatory benefits in the form of revenue from recreational ecosystem services, irrespective of the direct beneficiary. Our framework integrates a fish habitat model, a hydropower optimization model, and a recreational ecosystem service estimate to evaluate different environmental flow scenarios. The optimization process gives three outflow release scenarios, informed by previous streamflow realisations (dam inflow), and designed environmental flow constraints. The framework is applied and tested for the river Kuusinkijoki in North-eastern Finland, which is a habitat for migratory brown trout and grayling populations. We show that the revenue loss due to the environmental flow constraints arises through a reduction in revenue per generated energy unit and through a reduction in turbine efficiency. Additionally, the simulation results reveal that all the designed environmental flow constraints cannot be met simultaneously. Under the environmental flow scenario with both minimum flow and flow ramping rate constraints, the annual hydropower revenue decreases by 16.5 %. An annual increase of 8 % in recreational fishing visits offsets the revenue loss. In conclusion, the developed framework provides knowledge of the costs and benefits of hydropower environmental flow constraints and guides the prioritizing process of environmental measures.
An airfoil-based synthetic actuator disk model for wind turbine aerodynamic and structural analysis
Here, this study introduces an airfoil-based refinement technique to enhance the Actuator Disk Model (ADM) for improved wind turbine aerodynamic load prediction and structural simulation in conjunction with Large Eddy Simulations of the wind flow. While ADM offers higher computational efficiency than the more detailed but resource-intensive Actuator Line Model (ALM), it traditionally lacks the resolution needed to capture the localized blade forces accurately. To address this limitation, we introduce a refinement technique that uses airfoil-specific data and employs interpolation-based grid point refinement, achieving ALM-comparable accuracy while preserving ADM's efficiency. Unlike conventional ADM that provides only rotor-disk averaged forces, our synthetic method tracks transient aerodynamic load variations over multiple blade revolutions, allowing us to calculate the distributions of maximum and minimum loads during typical cycles. Applied to the NREL 5 MW reference turbine, our enhanced ADM accurately predicts key aerodynamic parameters (angle of attack, axial velocity, lift, drag, axial and tangential forces along the blades) as well as structural responses (blade tip deflection, maximum stress, and stress concentration). Our results show that the tip deflection ranges from 2.33m (3.69 % of blade length) to 4.28m (6.79 %), with maximum stress concentration occurring near the blade root. This research demonstrates that a refined synthetic ADM approach can serve as a computationally efficient alternative for both aerodynamic analysis and structural simulation of wind turbine blades subjected to realistic wind fields.
