N-type mercury-cadmium-telluride photoconductors in optical heterodyne communication systems.

Discussion of the performance of a photoconductive (Hg,Cd)Te detector/mixer in a carbon dioxide laser heterodyne communication system. The utility of computer simulation of the performance of an optical heterodyne detector/mixer is demonstrated. Certain unusual properties of this device are pointed out that, while having a substantial impact on device performance, have received little previous attention.

The mathematical-physical problem of P prime(f) to N(h) inversion for anisotropic media

The requirements for a numerical inversion method to calculate electron density profiles from ionograms are discussed. A systematic investigation about the independence of the two magnetoionic components shows that the extent to which the range of ambiguity can be reduced depends mainly on the magnetic latitude. Error estimates and first-order corrections for less elaborate methods are included.

Automatic N(h,t) profiles of the ionosphere with a digital ionosonde

A method is described to accomplish automatic data selection and profile inversion to obtain ionospheric electron density profiles from digitized radio soundings. The profile inversion is based on a well-established formulation by which the optimum radio frequency sounding intervals can be specified from an approximate knowledge of the profile; the expected virtual height coordinates (h) at these frequencies (f) are estimated, and procedures are then used to select h(f) observations nearest the predicted coordinates from a subsequent digital ionogram. From these the next profile is obtained. The process adaptively follows the changing shape and detail of the profile. The procedure requires an average of 15 sec per profile on a standard data processing computer, and can be adapted, with benefit to online real-time use in a digital ionosonde.

Skylab experiment performance evaluation manual. Appendix N: Experiment S183 ultraviolet panorama (MSFC), revision 1

A series is presented of analyses for Experiment S183, Ultraviolet Panorama (MSFC), to be used for evaluating the performance of the Skylab corollary experiments under preflight, inflight, and post-flight conditions. Experiment contingency plan workaround procedure and malfunction analyses are presented in order to assist in making the experiment operationally successful.

A measurement of the relative cross sections for simultaneous ionization and excitation of the degenerate He(plus) n equals 4 levels

The relative cross sections for simultaneous ionization and excitation of helium by 200 eV electrons into the 4S, 4P, 4D and 4F levels have been measured via a fast delayed coincidence technique. Results are in poor agreement with Born approximation calculations for simultaneous ionization and excitation of helium, the 4P component being larger than expected.

Ejecta blankets of large craters exemplified by King Crater, part N

Investigations were made into the details of ejecta blankets of large fresh craters in an effort to provide insight into deposition mechanics and sequence of impact debris emplacement. King Crater, photographed by Apollo 16, served as the investigative tool.

Simultaneous electrophotometric and spectral observation of N Del 1967

Eleven spectrograms of low dispersion and more than sixty observations in the UBV system are obtained. The light of the nova is found to be unchanging except for J. D. 2439703. With the increase of (B-V) both (U-B) and spectrophotometric temperature decreases. An attempt was made to connect the light variation with the ones in the continuous spectrum.

Earth Resources Technology Satellite: Non-US standard catalog No. N-13

To provide dissemination of information regarding the availability of Earth Resources Technology Satellite (ERTS) imagery, a Non-U.S. Standard Catalog is published on a monthly schedule. The catalogs identify imagery which has been processed and input to the data files during the preceding month. The Non-U.S. Standard Catalog includes imagery covering all areas except that of the United States, Hawaii, and Alaska. Imagery adjacent to the Continental U.S. and Alaska borders will normally appear in the U.S. Standard Catalog. As a supplement to these catalogs, an inventory of ERTS imagery on 16 millimeter microfilm is available. The catalogs consist of four parts: (1) annotated maps which graphically depict the geographic areas covered by the imagery listed in the current catalog, (2) a computer-generated listing organized by observation identification number (ID) with pertinent information for each image, (3) a computer listing of observations organized by longitude and latitude, and (4) observations which have had changes made in their catalog information since the original entry in the data base.
