Operational integrator

System operates in the nonreturn-to-zero mode, maintaining the increased bit density capability of this mode but with much higher noise immunity than conventional schemes offer. This integrator performs a mathematical integrating function on inputs from 100 Hz through 100 MHz.

Radiation damage in MOS integrated circuits, Part 1

Complementary and p-channel MOS integrated circuits made by four commercial manufacturers were investigated for sensitivity to radiation environment. The circuits were irradiated with 1.5 MeV electrons. The results are given for electrons and for the Co-60 gamma radiation equivalent. The data are presented in terms of shifts in the threshold potentials and changes in transconductances and leakages. Gate biases of -10V, +10V and zero volts were applied to individual MOS units during irradiation. It was found that, in most of circuits of complementary MOS technologies, noticable changes due to radiation appear first as increased leakage in n-channel MOSFETs somewhat before a total integrated dose 10 to the 12th power electrons/sg cm is reached. The inability of p-channel MOSFETs to turn on sets in at about 10 to the 13th power electrons/sq cm. Of the circuits tested, an RCA A-series circuit was the most radiation resistant sample.

Design and development of a small structurally integrated ion thruster system

A 5 cm structurally integrated ion thruster has been developed for attitude control and stationkeeping of synchronous satellites. With 2-D vectorable grids, thrust is 0.56 mlb at a beam voltage of 1200 V, total mass efficiency is 64%, and electrical efficiency is 46.8%. Nonvectoring thrust of 0.41 is demonstrated at very low specific impulse with dielectric coated grids. Structural integrity is demonstrated with dielectric coated grids for shock (30 G), sinusoidal (9 G), and random (19 G squared/Hz) accelerations. System envelope is 31.6 cm long by 14 cm flange B.C. with a mass of 8.5 kg including 6.2 Kg mercury propellant.

The topology of the regularized integral surfaces of the 3-body problem

Momentum, angular momentum, and energy of integral surfaces in the planar three-body problem are considered. The end points of orbits which cross an isolating block are identified. It is shown that this identification has a unique extension to an identification which pairs the end points of orbits entering the block and which end in a binary collision with the end points of orbits leaving the block and which come from a binary collision. The problem of regularization is that of showing that the identification of the end points of crossing orbits has a continuous, unique extension. The regularized phase space for the three-body problem was obtained, as were regularized integral surfaces for the problem on which the three-body equations of motion induce flows. Finally the topology of these surfaces is described.
