Hydraulic characteristics of micro-orifices arrayed in close proximity across the face of a liquid fuel injector are studied. Effects of geometry and flow variables on discharge coefficients and flow regimes are determined, as well as visible characteristics of the emerging liquid streams.

Large-scale velocity patterns observed in C IV in active regions show close correspondence with photospheric magnetic field patterns. In a large majority of cases, magnetic neutral lines show blueshift on their sun center side and redshift on their limbward side. The large-scale flow is consistent with widespread loop structure having downflow in both legs of the loops. Studies of individual bright loops, confirm that the flow is downward in most cases. However, an important subset of loops show flow from one end of the loop to the other.
Optical spectroscopic data are presented for a sample of 47 powerful far-IR galaxies chosen for IR spectral shape, and for six other IR-bright galaxies. The stellar absorption lines expected from a population of old stars are generally very weak in the nuclei of the galaxies. Very weak Mg I absorption is found in regions well off the nucleus, implying that the visible spectrum is dominated by young stars and not by an AGN. At least one, and probably five, of the galaxies have detectable WR emission features, providing additional evidence for a young stellar population. About 20 percent of the galaxies have strong Balmer absorption lines, indicating the presence of a substantial intermediate-age stellar population. The equivalent width of the H-alpha emission line can be modeled as arising from a mixture of a large young population and an intermediate-age population of stars.

The autonomous attitude determination system of Galileo spacecraft, consisting of a radiation hardened star scanner and a processing algorithm is presented. The algorithm applying to this system are the sequential star identification and attitude estimation. The star scanner model is reviewed in detail and the flight software parameters that must be updated frequently during flight, due to degradation of the scanner response and the star background change are identified.
The spatial distributions of the brightest features in the far-UV spectrum of Comet Austin were measured, and it is found that they are generally similar to those found for Comet Halley during two rocket observations in 1986. As in Halley, the CO profile can be fit to a radial outflow profile for a source whose size is smaller than the instrumental spatial resolution. Neither the shape nor the magnitude of the extended atomic carbon profiles, however, can be satisfactorily explained by the photodissociation of CO. No evidence is found for an extended source of CO in the coma; thus, suggestions that the additional carbon can come directly from grains are difficult to accept since Austin is a low-dust comet. The presence of the O I 1356 A feature implies that there is a photoelectron excitation source in the coma. The measured O I 1304 A distribution is consistent with H2O being the dominant source of oxygen in the coma. The atomic sulfur profile matches that expected for a daughter product of relatively short-lived parents.
