Robot Display and Control program (ROBDAC)

The ROBOT display and control program (ROBDAC) to be written for the Adage 340 computer is designed to communicate with the Univac 1110 computer with the aid of the graphic support communications programs. ROBDAC and the Adage computer act as an input/output device for the program ROBOT, which is run on the Univac 1110. ROBDAC controls the input to ROBOT by displaying images of the inputs, providing an editing technique for these inputs, shipping the input data to the Univac, and then commanding ROBOT to start execution. The output is done in a similar manner after receiving the output data from the Univac. This data will be displayed numerically as well as by plotted graphs. All of the input/output will be done interactively with practically 'finger tip' control. A general program flow diagram of ROBDAC is included.

Automated Array Assembly, Phase 2. Low-cost Solar Array Project, Task 4

Work was done to verify the technological readiness of a select process sequence with respect to satisfying the Low Cost Solar Array Project objectives of meeting the designated goals of $.50 per peak watt in 1986 (1975 dollars). The sequence examined consisted of: (1) 3 inches diameter as-sawn Czochralski grown 1:0:0 silicon, (2) texture etching, (3) ion implanting, (4) laser annealing, (5) screen printing of ohmic contacts and (6) sprayed anti-reflective coatings. High volume production projections were made on the selected process sequence. Automated processing and movement of hardware at high rates were conceptualized to satisfy the PROJECT's 500 MW/yr capability. A production plan was formulated with flow diagrams integrating the various processes in the cell fabrication sequence.

A simplified computer program for the prediction of the linear stability behavior of liquid propellant combustors

A program for predicting the linear stability of liquid propellant rocket engines is presented. The underlying model assumptions and analytical steps necessary for understanding the program and its input and output are also given. The rocket engine is modeled as a right circular cylinder with an injector with a concentrated combustion zone, a nozzle, finite mean flow, and an acoustic admittance, or the sensitive time lag theory. The resulting partial differential equations are combined into two governing integral equations by the use of the Green's function method. These equations are solved using a successive approximation technique for the small amplitude (linear) case. The computational method used as well as the various user options available are discussed. Finally, a flow diagram, sample input and output for a typical application and a complete program listing for program MODULE are presented.

A computerized method for calculating flutter characteristics of a system characterized by two degrees of freedom

A formulation is given for calculating flutter frequency and flutter speed for a problem with two degrees of freedom. Two different solutions for evaluating the flutter determinant are presented and the results for each method are compared. A program flow diagram, partial program listing, and a sample problem with input and output for the two different methods are included. Although the method was developed for computing flutter characteristics of a pylon installed in the NASA Langley VSTOL tunnel, it is sufficiently general to solve any flutter system that can be characterized by two degrees of freedom.

MPS Solidification Model. Volume 2: Operating guide and software documentation for the unsteady model

The operation of solidification Model 2 is described and documentation of the software associated with the model is provided. Model 2 calculates the macrosegregation in a rectangular ingot of a binary alloy as a result of unsteady horizontal axisymmetric bidirectional solidification. The solidification program allows interactive modification of calculation parameters as well as selection of graphical and tabular output. In batch mode, parameter values are input in card image form and output consists of printed tables of solidification functions. The operational aspects of Model 2 that differ substantially from Model 1 are described. The global flow diagrams and data structures of Model 2 are included. The primary program documentation is the code itself.

Performance, operational limits, of an Electronic Switching Spherical Array (ESSA) antenna

The development of a microprocessor controller which provides multimode operational capability for the Electronic Switching Spherical Array (ESSA) Antenna is described. The best set of operating conditions were determined and the performance of an ESSA antenna was demonstrated in the following modes: (1) omni; (2) acquisition/track; (3) directive; and (4) multibeam. The control algorithms, software flow diagrams, and electronic circuitry were developed. The microprocessor and control electronics were built and interfaced with the antenna to carry out performance testing. The acquisition/track mode for users in the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System is emphasized.

Automated mixed traffic transit vehicle microprocessor controller

An improved Automated Mixed Traffic Vehicle (AMTV) speed control system employing a microprocessor and transistor chopper motor current controller is described and its performance is presented in terms of velocity versus time curves. The on board computer hardware and software systems are described as is the software development system. All of the programming used in this controller was implemented using FORTRAN. This microprocessor controller made possible a number of safety features and improved the comfort associated with starting and shopping. In addition, most of the vehicle's performance characteristics can be altered by simple program parameter changes. A failure analysis of the microprocessor controller was generated and the results are included. Flow diagrams for the speed control algorithms and complete FORTRAN code listings are also included.

IGDS/TRAP Interface Program (ITIP). Software User Manual (SUM)

This specification establishes the requirements, concepts, and preliminary design for a set of software known as the IGDS/TRAP Interface Program (ITIP). This software provides the capability to develop at an Interactive Graphics Design System (IGDS) design station process flow diagrams for use by the NASA Coal Gasification Task Team. In addition, ITIP will use the Data Management and Retrieval System (DMRS) to maintain a data base from which a properly formatted input file to the Time-Line and Resources Analysis Program (TRAP) can be extracted. This set of software will reside on the PDP-11/70 and will become the primary interface between the Coal Gasification Task Team and IGDS, DMRS, and TRAP. The user manual for the computer program is presented.
