Transverse Λ polarization in e + e – processes within a TMD factorization approach and the polarizing fragmentation function

We perform a re-analysis of Belle data for the transverse Λ and Λ¯ polarization in e + e – annihilation processes within a transverse momentum dependent (TMD) factorization approach. We consider two data sets, one referring to the associated production of Λ’s with a light unpolarized hadron in an almost back-to-back configuration, and one for the inclusive Λ production, with the reconstruction of the thrust axis. We adopt the Collins-Soper-Sterman framework and employ the recent formulation on the factorization of single-inclusive hadron production. This extends a previous phenomenological study carried out in a more simplified TMD approach, leading to a new extraction of the polarizing fragmentation function (FF). While confirming several features of the previous analysis, here we include the proper QCD scale dependence of this TMD FF and carefully exploit the role of its nonperturbative component. Here, the compatibility, within a unique TMD factorization scheme, of double and single-inclusive hadron production is discussed in detail. Moreover, we consider another data set for inclusive Λ production, at much larger energies, from the OPAL Collaboration, in order to test the consistency of the entire approach. Finally, we elaborate on some fundamental issues like the role of SU(2) isospin symmetry and the heavy quark contributions.

Coulomb field correction due to virtual $e$ + $e$ - production in heavy ion collisions

The correction to the Coulomb energy due to virtual production of $e$ + $e$ - pairs, which is on the order of one percent of the Coulomb energy at nuclear scales is discussed. The effects of including a pair-production term in the semi-empirical mass formula and the correction to the Coulomb barrier for a handful of nuclear collisions using the Bass and Coulomb potentials are studied. Furthermore, with an eye toward future work using Constrained Molecular Dynamics (CoMD) model, we also calculate the correction to the Coulomb energy and force between protons after folding with a Gaussian spatial distribution.

Permutation invariant polynomial neural network based diabatic ansatz for the ( E + A ) × ( e + a ) Jahn–Teller and Pseudo-Jahn–Teller systems

In this work, the permutation invariant polynomial neural network (PIP-NN) approach is employed to construct a quasi-diabatic Hamiltonian for system with non-Abelian symmetries. It provides a flexible and compact NN-based diabatic ansatz from the related approach of Williams, Eisfeld, and co-workers. The example of $H^3_+$ is studied, which is an (E + A) × (e + a) Jahn–Teller and Pseudo-Jahn–Teller system. The PIP-NN diabatic ansatz is based on the symmetric polynomial expansion of Viel and Eisfeld, the coefficients of which are expressed with neural network functions that take permutation-invariant polynomials as input. This PIP-NN-based diabatic ansatz not only preserves the correct symmetry but also provides functional flexibility to accurately reproduce ab initio electronic structure data, thus resulting in excellent fits. Further, the adiabatic energies, energy gradients, and derivative couplings are well reproduced. A good description of the local topology of the conical intersection seam is also achieved. Therefore, this diabatic ansatz completes the PIP-NN based representation of DPEM with correct symmetries and will enable us to diabatize even more complicated systems with complex symmetries.

Mixture Model for Refrigerant Pairs R-32/1234yf, R-32/1234ze(E), R-1234ze(E)/227ea, R-1234yf/152a, and R-125/1234yf

In this work, thermodynamic models based on the corresponding states framework with departure terms are developed for the refrigerant pairs R-32/1234yf, R-32/1234ze(E), R-1234ze(E)/227ea, R-1234yf/152a, and R-125/1234yf. These models are based on new measurements of density, speed of sound, and phase equilibria, combined with the data available in the literature. The model for R-32/1234yf is most comprehensive in its data coverage, with speed of sound deviations within 1%, density deviations within 0.1%, and bubble- and dew-point pressure deviations within 1%. In conclusion, the other mixtures have generally more limited data availability but a similar goodness of fit.

Local chromatic correction optics for Future Circular Collider e + e −

Local chromatic correction optics are proposed for the Future Circular e + − e − Collider. These new optics assume an identical layout of the magnets at all operation energies and include a new design for the arcs, for the straight sections, and for the final focus. The arcs design is a step forward from the classic FODO lattice that achieves near cancellation up to the fourth order of chromatic and geometric aberrations. Straight sections and the final focus benefit from the application of transparency conditions and are thus minimally impacting the global beam dynamics. The final focus design includes both vertical and horizontal chromaticity correction sections, crab sextupoles, and additional specific sextupoles and decapoles for the optimization of the dynamics off-energy. Decapoles are very effective in mitigating the reduction of dynamic aperture due to synchrotron radiation. Nonlinear magnet settings are further optimized with multiobjective algorithms. The overall properties of the new optics proposed are analyzed in the presence of errors and compared to other optics designs.

Isosinglet vectorlike leptons at $e$ + $e$ – colliders

We study weak isosinglet vectorlike leptons that decay through a small mixing with the tau lepton, for which the discovery and exclusion reaches of the Large Hadron Collider and future proposed hadron colliders are limited. We show how an $e$ + $e$ – collider may act as a discovery machine for these τ' particles, demonstrate that the τ' mass peak can be reconstructed in a variety of distinct signal regions, and explain how the τ' branching ratios may be measured.

Effects of renormalon scheme and perturbative scale choices on determinations of the strong coupling from e + e − event shapes

We study the role of renormalon cancellation schemes and perturbative scale choices in extractions of the strong coupling constant α s ( m Z ) and the leading nonperturbative shift parameter Ω 1 from resummed predictions of the e + e − event shape thrust. We calculate the thrust distribution to N L 3 L ′ resummed accuracy in soft-collinear effective theory (SCET) matched to the fixed-order O ( α s 2 ) prediction, and perform a new high-statistics computation of the O ( α s 3 ) matching in , although we do not include the latter in our final α s fits due to some observed systematics that require further investigation. We are primarily interested in testing the phenomenological impact sourced from varying amongst three renormalon cancellation schemes and two sets of perturbative scale profile choices. We then perform a global fit to available data spanning center-of-mass energies between 35–207 GeV in each scenario. Relevant subsets of our results are consistent with prior SCET-based extractions of α s ( m Z ) , but we are also led to a number of novel observations. Notably, we find that the combined effect of altering the renormalon cancellation scheme and profile parameters can lead to few-percent-level impacts on the extracted values in the α s − Ω 1 plane, indicating a potentially important systematic theory uncertainty that should be accounted for. We also observe that fits performed over windows dominated by dijet events are typically of a higher quality than those that extend into the far tails of the distributions, possibly motivating future fits focused more heavily in this region. Finally, we discuss how different estimates of the three-loop soft matching coefficient c S ˜ 3 can also lead to measurable changes in the fitted { α s , Ω 1 } values. Impact of Next-to-Leading-Order Weak Standard-Model-Effective-Field-Theory Corrections in e + e − → Z H

We present results from a complete next-to-leading order (NLO) calculation of e + e − → Z H in the standard model effective field theory (SMEFT) framework, including all contributions from dimension-six operators. At NLO, there are novel dependencies on CP violating parameters in the gauge sector, on modifications to the Higgs boson self-couplings, on alterations to the top quark Yukawa couplings, and on four-fermion operators involving the electron and the top quark, among others. We show that including only the logarithms resulting from renormalization group scaling can produce misleading results, and further, we explicitly demonstrate the constraining power of combining measurements from different energy scales. Spin-Polarization Simulations for the Future Circular Collider $E^+E^-$ using BMAD

The high precision measurement of the centre-of-mass energy in the Future Circular Collider e+e- (FCC-ee) at Z and W energies can be realized through resonant spin depolarization utilizing transversely polarized beams. This requires a guaranteed sufficiently-high spin polarization in the presence of lattice imperfections. Investigations of the impact of misalignments on the equilibrium polarization are conducted using analytical and Monte-Carlo spin simulations with Bmad. Potential optimization schemes to ensure high polarization using orbit bumps have been explored.

Polarization Transport in the ERL-ERL FCC e + e - Collider

An alternative approach for the Future Circular electron-positron Collider uses energy recovery linac recirculators to mitigate the otherwise enormous power consumption needed to compensate 100 MW of beam energy losses by synchrotron radiation in a ring-ring design. This approach would also allow to extend CM energy to 500 GeV (or above) for double Higgs production. An additional advantage of the ERL-ERL scheme is its allowing polarized e + e - beam collision. A 100 km, 6250cell, 220 GeV loop is subjected to polarized bunch transport simulations. A linear Fixed Field Alternating gradient (FFA) design is also assessed as to spin transport.

Measurement of e+e− → ωη′ cross sections at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 2.000 to 3.080 GeV

Abstract We measured the Born cross sections for the processe + e − →ωη′ at 22 center-of-mass energies from 2.000 to 3.080 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. We observed a resonant structure with a statistical significance of 9.6σ. A Breit-Wigner fit determines its mass to beM R = (2153±30±31) MeV/c 2 and its width to be Γ R = (167±77±7) MeV, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Measurement of Λ transverse polarization in e+e− collisions at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 3.68 − 3.71 GeV

Abstract With data samples collected with the BESIII detector at seven energy points at$$ \sqrt{s} $$ s = 3.68−3.71 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 333 pb −1 , we present a study of the Λ transverse polarization in thee + e − →$$ \Lambda \overline{\Lambda} $$ Λ Λ ¯ reaction. The significance of polarization by combining the seven energy points is found to be 2.6σincluding the systematic uncertainty, which implies a non-zero phase between the transition amplitudes of the$$ \Lambda \overline{\Lambda} $$ Λ Λ ¯ helicity states. The modulus ratio and the relative phase of EM-psionicform factors combined with all energy points are measured to beR Ψ =$$ {0.71}_{-0.10}^{+0.10} $$ 0.71 − 0.10 + 0.10 ±0.03 and ∆Φ Ψ =$$ {23}_{-8.0}^{+8.8} $$ 23 − 8.0 + 8.8 ±1.6°, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.
