Measurement of the e + e − → Λ Σ ¯ 0 + c . c . cross sections at s from 2.3094 to 3.0800 GeV

The Born cross sections and effective form factors of the process e + e − → Λ Σ ¯ 0 + c . c . are measured at 14 center-of-mass energy points from 2.3094 to 3.0800 GeV, based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of ( 478.5 ± 4.8 ) pb − 1 collected with the BESIII detector. A nonzero Born cross section is observed at the center-of-mass energy of 2.3094 GeV with a statistical significance of more than five standard deviations, and the cross sections at other energies are obtained with improved precision compared to earlier measurements from the Collaboration. The Born cross-section line shape is described better by a shape considering the strong-interaction effects than by a pQCD motivated functional form. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Measurement of e + e − → η J / ψ cross section from s = 3.808 GeV to 4.951 GeV

Using data samples with an integrated luminosity of 22.42 fb − 1 collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, we measure the cross sections of the e + e − → η J / ψ process at center-of-mass energies from 3.808 to 4.951 GeV. Three structures are observed in the line shape of the measured cross sections. A maximum-likelihood fit with ψ ( 4040 ) , two additional resonances, and a nonresonant component are performed. The mass and width of the first additional state are ( 4219.7 ± 2.5 ± 4.5 ) MeV / c 2 and ( 80.7 ± 4.4 ± 1.4 ) MeV , respectively, consistent with the ψ ( 4230 ) . For the second state, the mass and width are ( 4386 ± 13 ± 17 ) MeV / c 2 and ( 177 ± 32 ± 13 ) MeV , respectively, consistent with the ψ ( 4360 ) . The first uncertainties are statistical, and the second ones are systematic. The statistical significance of ψ ( 4040 ) is 8.0 σ and those for ψ ( 4230 ) and ψ ( 4360 ) are more than 10.0 σ . Measurement of the inclusive cross sections of prompt J / ψ and ψ ( 3686 ) production in e + e − annihilation from s = 3.808 to 4.951 GeV

The inclusive cross sections of prompt J / ψ and ψ ( 3686 ) production are measured at center-of-mass energies from 3.808 to 4.951 GeV. The dataset used is 22 fb − 1 of e + e − annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. The results obtained are in agreement with the previous BESIII measurements of exclusive J / ψ and ψ ( 3686 ) production. The average values obtained for the cross sections measured in the center-of-mass energy ranges from 4.527 to 4.951 GeV for J / ψ and from 4.843 to 4.951 GeV for ψ ( 3686 ) , where the impact of known resonances is negligible, are 14.0 ± 1.7 ± 3.1 pb and 15.3 ± 3.0 pb , respectively. For J / ψ , the first and the second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. For ψ ( 3686 ) , the uncertainty is total. These values are useful for testing charmonium production models. Published by the American Physical Society 2025

First Observation of a Three-Resonance Structure in e + e − → Nonopen Charm Hadrons

We report the measurement of the inclusive cross sections for e + e − → nOCH (where nOCH denotes non-open charm hadrons) with improved precision at center-of-mass (c.m.) energies from 3.645 to 3.871 GeV. We observe three resonances: R ( 3760 ) , R ( 3780 ) , and R ( 3810 ) with significances of 8.1 σ , 13.7 σ , and 8.8 σ , respectively. The R ( 3810 ) state is observed for the first time, while the R ( 3760 ) and R ( 3780 ) states are observed for the first time in the nOCH cross sections. Two sets of resonance parameters describe the energy-dependent line shape of the cross sections well. In set I [set II], the R ( 3810 ) state has mass ( 3805.7 ± 1.1 ± 2.7 ) [ ( 3805.7 ± 1.1 ± 2.7 ) ] MeV / c 2 , total width ( 11.6 ± 2.9 ± 1.9 ) [ ( 11.5 ± 2.8 ± 1.9 ) ] MeV , and an electronic width multiplied by the nOCH decay branching fraction of ( 10.9 ± 3.8 ± 2.5 ) [ ( 11.0 ± 3.4 ± 2.5 ) ] eV . In addition, we measure the branching fractions B [ R ( 3760 ) → nOCH ] = ( 25.2 ± 16.1 ± 30.4 ) % [ ( 6.4 ± 4.8 ± 7.7 ) % ] and B [ R ( 3780 ) → nOCH ] = ( 12.3 ± 6.6 ± 8.3 ) % [ ( 10.4 ± 4.8 ± 7.0 ) % ] for the first time. The R ( 3760 ) state can be interpreted as an open-charm (OC) molecular state, but containing a simple four-quark state component. The R ( 3810 ) state can be interpreted as a hadrocharmonium state. R ( 3780 ) Resonance Interpreted as the 1 D 1 3 -Wave Dominant State of Charmonium from Precise Measurements of the Cross Section of e + e − → Hadrons

We report the precise measurements of the cross section of e + e − → hadrons at center-of-mass energies from 3.645 to 3.871 GeV. We thereby perform the most precise study of the cross sections and find a complex system composed of three resonances of R ( 3760 ) , R ( 3780 ) , and R ( 3810 ) . For the first time, we measure the R ( 3810 ) electronic width to be ( 19.4 ± 7.4 ± 12.1 ) eV . For the R ( 3760 ) resonance, we measure the mass to be ( 3751.9 ± 3.8 ± 2.8 ) MeV / c 2 , the total width to be ( 32.8 ± 5.8 ± 8.7 ) MeV , and the electronic width to be ( 184 ± 75 ± 86 ) eV . For the R ( 3780 ) resonance, we measure its mass to be ( 3778.7 ± 0.5 ± 0.3 ) MeV / c 2 , total width to be ( 20.3 ± 0.8 ± 1.7 ) MeV , and electronic width to be ( 265 ± 67 ± 83 ) eV . Forty-seven years ago, the ψ ( 3770 ) resonance was discovered, and was subsequently interpreted as the 1 D 1 3 -wave dominant state of charmonium. However, our analysis of the total-hadron cross sections indicates that the ψ ( 3770 ) is not a single state, but a complex system composed of the R ( 3760 ) , R ( 3780 ) , and R ( 3810 ) resonances. Among these, we interpret the R ( 3780 ) is a resonance dominated by the 1 D 1 3 charmonium state. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Measurement of the B + /B 0 production ratio in e + e - collisions at the $\Upsilon$ (4S) resonance using B → J/Ψ($\ell\ell$)K decays at Belle

We measure the ratio of branching fractions for the $\Upsilon$ (4S) decays to B + B - and B 0 $\bar{B}$ 0 using B + → J/Ψ($\ell\ell$)K + and B 0 → J/Ψ($\ell\ell$)K 0 samples, where J/Ψ($\ell\ell$) stands for J/Ψ → $\ell$ + $\ell$ - ($\ell$ = e or μ), with 711 fb -1 of data collected at the $\Upsilon$ (4S) resonance with the Belle detector. We find the decay rate ratio of $\Upsilon$ (4S) → B + B - over $\Upsilon$ (4S) → B 0 $\bar{B}$ 0 to be 1.065 ± 0.012 ± 0.019 ± 0.047, which is the most precise measurement to date. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, and the third uncertainty is due to the assumption of isospin symmetry in B → J/Ψ($\ell\ell$) K.

Speed of Sound Measurements of Binary Mixtures of Difluoromethane (R-32) with 2,3,3,3-Tetrafluoropropene (R-1234yf) or trans-1,3,3,3-Tetrafluoropropene (R-1234ze(E)) Refrigerants

In this article, sound speed data measured using a dual-path pulse-echo instrument are reported for binary mixtures of difluoromethane (R-32) with 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene (R-1234yf) or trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene (R-1234ze(E)). The sound speed is reported at two compositions for each binary mixture of approximately (0.33/67) and (0.67/0.33) mole fraction at temperatures between 230 K and 345 K. Data are reported from pressures slightly above the bubble point to 12 MPa for R-32/1234yf mixtures to avoid potential polymerization reactions and to 53 MPa for the R-32/1234ze(E) mixtures. The mean uncertainty of the sound speed data are less than 0.1% of the measured value where uncertainties at individual state points range from 0.04% to 0.5% of the measured value as the conditions approach the mixture critical region. The reported data are compared to available Helmholtz-energy-explicit EOS included in REFPROP and all systems studied have average absolute deviations greater than 2%. The comparisons show that further adjustments to the mixture models are needed to provide a reasonable representation of the data within its experimental uncertainty.

Modeling a divertor with mid-leg pumping for high-power H-mode scenarios in DIII-D considering E x B drift flows

Edge-plasma simulations of a baffled, long-legged divertor in DIII-D, performed using the multi-fluid code UEDGE, indicate that the position of the detachment front is constrained to the location of the pump duct along the low-field side (LFS) baffle. Simulations including magnetic and E x B drifts were performed for 12.5 MW deuterium plasmas including intrinsic carbon and seeded neon to assess the optimal location of the LFS divertor pump to create a stable detachment front between the target and the X-point. The radiation front position in the simulations, taken to be indicative of the detachment front, can be controlled between the pump and X-point in the favorable magnetic field direction for H-mode access by moving the pump duct location upstream of the target along the LFS baffle. In the unfavorable magnetic field direction, the radial E θ x B drift flows are directed towards the pumping surface, efficiently removing the injected deuterium gas and limiting the sensitivity of the radiation front location to the gas injection rate. The role of pumping rate and drift direction on the pumping efficiency are also found to affect the divertor plasma conditions and detachment front location in UEDGE simulations.

TP099-CT-800DR Comparison Between SIRZ-2 and Surface Fit Method ($ρ_{e},Ζ_{e}$) Estimation

The primary objective of this test plan is to acquire dual-energy computed tomography (CT) data of 33 well-known specimens using the Leidos Reveal CT-80DR+ baggage scanner housed at LLNL (hereafter referred to as CT-80DR). These data sets will allow us to compare, for each specimen, the accuracy and precision of electron density ($ρ_{e}$) and effective atomic number ($Z_{e}$) estimates obtained from two different algorithmic methods— from TSL’s surface fits and from LLNL’s SIRZ-2 decomposition. A secondary objective is to determine how often it is necessary to acquire CT-80DR spectral response information.

Resummed predictions for jet-resolution scales in multijet production in e$^{+}$e$^{−}$ annihilation

We present for the first time resummed predictions at NLO + NLL′ accuracy for the Durham jet-resolution scales y$_{n,n+1}$ in multijet production in e$^{+}$e$^{−}$ collisions. Results are obtained using an implementation of the well known Caesar formalism within the Sherpa framework. For the 4-, 5- and 6-jet resolutions we discuss in particular the impact of subleading colour contributions and compare to matrix-element plus parton-shower predictions from Sherpa and Vincia.

Full treatment of the thrust distribution in single inclusive e + e – → h X processes

Extending the transverse momentum dependent factorization to thrust dependent observables entails a series of difficulties, ultimately associated to the behavior of soft radiation. As a consequence, the definition of the transverse momentum dependent functions has to be revised, while preserving (and possibly extending) their universality properties. Moreover, the regularization of the rapidity divergences generates non trivial correlations between rapidity and thrust. In this paper, we show how to deal with these correlations in a consistent treatment of the thrust dependence of e + e – → h X cross section, where the hadron transverse momentum is measured with respect to the thrust axis. In this framework all results obtained in the past few years properly fit together, leading to a remarkable phenomenological description of the experimental measurements.

Transverse Λ polarization in e + e – processes within a TMD factorization approach and the polarizing fragmentation function

We perform a re-analysis of Belle data for the transverse Λ and Λ¯ polarization in e + e – annihilation processes within a transverse momentum dependent (TMD) factorization approach. We consider two data sets, one referring to the associated production of Λ’s with a light unpolarized hadron in an almost back-to-back configuration, and one for the inclusive Λ production, with the reconstruction of the thrust axis. We adopt the Collins-Soper-Sterman framework and employ the recent formulation on the factorization of single-inclusive hadron production. This extends a previous phenomenological study carried out in a more simplified TMD approach, leading to a new extraction of the polarizing fragmentation function (FF). While confirming several features of the previous analysis, here we include the proper QCD scale dependence of this TMD FF and carefully exploit the role of its nonperturbative component. Here, the compatibility, within a unique TMD factorization scheme, of double and single-inclusive hadron production is discussed in detail. Moreover, we consider another data set for inclusive Λ production, at much larger energies, from the OPAL Collaboration, in order to test the consistency of the entire approach. Finally, we elaborate on some fundamental issues like the role of SU(2) isospin symmetry and the heavy quark contributions.

Coulomb field correction due to virtual $e$ + $e$ - production in heavy ion collisions

The correction to the Coulomb energy due to virtual production of $e$ + $e$ - pairs, which is on the order of one percent of the Coulomb energy at nuclear scales is discussed. The effects of including a pair-production term in the semi-empirical mass formula and the correction to the Coulomb barrier for a handful of nuclear collisions using the Bass and Coulomb potentials are studied. Furthermore, with an eye toward future work using Constrained Molecular Dynamics (CoMD) model, we also calculate the correction to the Coulomb energy and force between protons after folding with a Gaussian spatial distribution.

Permutation invariant polynomial neural network based diabatic ansatz for the ( E + A ) × ( e + a ) Jahn–Teller and Pseudo-Jahn–Teller systems

In this work, the permutation invariant polynomial neural network (PIP-NN) approach is employed to construct a quasi-diabatic Hamiltonian for system with non-Abelian symmetries. It provides a flexible and compact NN-based diabatic ansatz from the related approach of Williams, Eisfeld, and co-workers. The example of $H^3_+$ is studied, which is an (E + A) × (e + a) Jahn–Teller and Pseudo-Jahn–Teller system. The PIP-NN diabatic ansatz is based on the symmetric polynomial expansion of Viel and Eisfeld, the coefficients of which are expressed with neural network functions that take permutation-invariant polynomials as input. This PIP-NN-based diabatic ansatz not only preserves the correct symmetry but also provides functional flexibility to accurately reproduce ab initio electronic structure data, thus resulting in excellent fits. Further, the adiabatic energies, energy gradients, and derivative couplings are well reproduced. A good description of the local topology of the conical intersection seam is also achieved. Therefore, this diabatic ansatz completes the PIP-NN based representation of DPEM with correct symmetries and will enable us to diabatize even more complicated systems with complex symmetries.

Mixture Model for Refrigerant Pairs R-32/1234yf, R-32/1234ze(E), R-1234ze(E)/227ea, R-1234yf/152a, and R-125/1234yf

In this work, thermodynamic models based on the corresponding states framework with departure terms are developed for the refrigerant pairs R-32/1234yf, R-32/1234ze(E), R-1234ze(E)/227ea, R-1234yf/152a, and R-125/1234yf. These models are based on new measurements of density, speed of sound, and phase equilibria, combined with the data available in the literature. The model for R-32/1234yf is most comprehensive in its data coverage, with speed of sound deviations within 1%, density deviations within 0.1%, and bubble- and dew-point pressure deviations within 1%. In conclusion, the other mixtures have generally more limited data availability but a similar goodness of fit.

Local chromatic correction optics for Future Circular Collider e + e −

Local chromatic correction optics are proposed for the Future Circular e + − e − Collider. These new optics assume an identical layout of the magnets at all operation energies and include a new design for the arcs, for the straight sections, and for the final focus. The arcs design is a step forward from the classic FODO lattice that achieves near cancellation up to the fourth order of chromatic and geometric aberrations. Straight sections and the final focus benefit from the application of transparency conditions and are thus minimally impacting the global beam dynamics. The final focus design includes both vertical and horizontal chromaticity correction sections, crab sextupoles, and additional specific sextupoles and decapoles for the optimization of the dynamics off-energy. Decapoles are very effective in mitigating the reduction of dynamic aperture due to synchrotron radiation. Nonlinear magnet settings are further optimized with multiobjective algorithms. The overall properties of the new optics proposed are analyzed in the presence of errors and compared to other optics designs.

Renormalization scale setting for heavy quark pair production in $e^+e^–$ annihilation near the threshold region

Heavy fermion pair production in e + e – annihilation is a fundamental process in hadron physics and is of considerable interest for various phenomena. In this paper, we will apply the principle of maximum conformality (PMC) to provide a comprehensive analysis of these processes. The PMC provides a systematic, unambiguous method for determining the renormalization scales of the QCD coupling constant for single-scale and multiple-scale applications. The resulting predictions eliminate any renormalization scheme-and-scale ambiguities, eliminate the factorial renormalon divergences, and are consistent with the requirements of the renormalization group. It is remarkable that two distinctly different scales are determined by using the PMC for heavy fermion pair production near the threshold region. One scale is the order of the fermion mass m f , which enters the hard virtual corrections, and the other scale is of order v m f , where v is the quark velocity, which enters the Coulomb rescattering amplitude. The PMC scales yield the correct physical behavior and reflect the virtuality of the propagating gluons (photons) for the QCD (QED) processes. Moreover, we demonstrate the consistency of PMC scale setting from QCD to QED. Perfect agreement between the Abelian unambiguous Gell-Mann-Low and the PMC scale-setting methods in the limit of zero number of colors is demonstrated.

Isosinglet vectorlike leptons at $e$ + $e$ – colliders

We study weak isosinglet vectorlike leptons that decay through a small mixing with the tau lepton, for which the discovery and exclusion reaches of the Large Hadron Collider and future proposed hadron colliders are limited. We show how an $e$ + $e$ – collider may act as a discovery machine for these τ' particles, demonstrate that the τ' mass peak can be reconstructed in a variety of distinct signal regions, and explain how the τ' branching ratios may be measured.
