Mechanisms and dynamics of the NH + 2 + H + and NH + + H + + H fragmentation channels upon single-photon double ionization of NH 3

We present state-selective measurements on the NH$_2^{+}$ + H$^{+}$ and NH$^{+}$ + H$^{+}$ + H dissociation channels following single-photon double ionization at 61.5 eV of neutral NH$_{3}$, where the two photoelectrons and two cations are measured in coincidence using 3-D momentum imaging. Three dication electronic states are identified to contribute to the NH$_2^{+}$ + H$^{+}$ dissociation channel, where the excitation in one of the three states undergoes intersystem crossing prior to dissociation, producing a cold NH$_2^+$ fragment. In contrast, the other two states directly dissociate, producing a ro-vibrationally excited NH$_2^+$ fragment with roughly 1 eV of internal energy. The NH$^{+}$ + H$^{+}$ + H channel is fed by direct dissociation from three intermediate dication states, one of which is shared with the NH$_2^{+}$ + H$^{+}$ channel. We find evidence of autoionization contributing to each of the double ionization channels. Finally, the distributions of the relative emission angle between the two photoelectrons, as well as the relative angle between the recoil axis of the molecular breakup and the polarization vector of the ionizing field, are also presented to provide insight on the ionization mechanisms for the different dication states.

From single cell to spatial multi-omics: unveiling molecular mechanisms in dynamic and heterogeneous systems

Single-cell multi-omics and spatial technology have been widely applied to biomedical studies and recently to environmental studies. Here, the cell size detected by single-cell omics ranges from ~2 µm (e.g., Bacillus subtilis) to ~120 µm (e.g., human oocytes). Simultaneous detection of single-cell multi-omics is available to human and plant tissues while limited to microbial samples. Spatial technology enables mapping the detected biomolecules in situ. The recent advances in MALDI-MSI and micro/nanoPOTS for the first time allow the application of spatial multi-omics in highly heterogeneous environmental samples composed of plants, fungi, and bacteria. We envision that these technologies will continue to advance our understanding of unique cell types, their developmental trajectory, and the intercellular signaling and interaction within biological samples.

Mechanism and dynamics of fatty acid photodecarboxylase

The deposition contains diffraction patterns after hit-finding of time-resolved serial femtosecond crystallography measurements on fatty acid photodecarboxylase performed at LCLS XFEL (proposal ID: LT59). Five datasets are available. One dataset without pump laser excitation, labeled as "dark" and four time-resolved datasets with pump laser excitation at four different time-points labeled as "20 ps", "900 ps", "300 ns" and "2 μs". Please check the publication for more information about the datasets.

Evaluation of postural mechanisms under dynamic conditions

A stimulus delivery and data acquisition system for assessment of human posture was developed based on a digital computer and a translating platform. The movement of the platform acts to displace the subject's base of support while the computer tracks the corrections which are made by the subject to maintain balance. Various stimuli are used ranging from fast transients to sine waves.

The use of computers for instruction in fluid dynamics

Applications for computers which improve instruction in fluid dynamics are examined. Computers can be used to illustrate three-dimensional flow fields and simple fluid dynamics mechanisms, to solve fluid dynamics problems, and for electronic sketching. The usefulness of computer applications is limited by computer speed, memory, and software and the clarity and field of view of the projected display. Proposed advances in personal computers which will address these limitations are discussed. Long range applications for computers in education are considered.

Fluid mechanics of dynamic stall. I - Unsteady flow concepts

Advanced military aircraft 'supermaneuverability' requirements entail the sustained operation of airfoils at stalled flow conditions. The present work addresses the effects of separated flow on vehicle dynamics; an analytic method is presented which employs static experimental data to predict the separated flow effect on incompressible unsteady aerodynamics. The key parameters in the analytic relationship between steady and nonsteady aerodynamics are the time-lag before a change of flow conditions can affect the separation-induced aerodynamic loads, the accelerated flow effect, and the moving wall effect.

Fluid mechanics of dynamic stall. II - Prediction of full scale characteristics

Analytical extrapolations are made from experimental subscale dynamics to predict full scale characteristics of dynamic stall. The method proceeds by establishing analytic relationships between dynamic and static aerodynamic characteristics induced by viscous flow effects. The method is then validated by predicting dynamic test results on the basis of corresponding static test data obtained at the same subscale flow conditions, and the effect of Reynolds number on the static aerodynamic characteristics are determined from subscale to full scale flow conditions.

Computational Methods for Structural Mechanics and Dynamics, part 1

The structural analysis methods research has several goals. One goal is to develop analysis methods that are general. This goal of generality leads naturally to finite-element methods, but the research will also include other structural analysis methods. Another goal is that the methods be amenable to error analysis; that is, given a physical problem and a mathematical model of that problem, an analyst would like to know the probable error in predicting a given response quantity. The ultimate objective is to specify the error tolerances and to use automated logic to adjust the mathematical model or solution strategy to obtain that accuracy. A third goal is to develop structural analysis methods that can exploit parallel processing computers. The structural analysis methods research will focus initially on three types of problems: local/global nonlinear stress analysis, nonlinear transient dynamics, and tire modeling.
