Catalog of infrared observations. Part 2: Appendixes

The Catalog of Infrared Observations (CIO) is a compilation of infrared astronomical observational data obtained from an extensive literature search of astronomical journals and major astronomical catalogs and surveys. The literature searches are complete for years 1965 to 1986. Supporting appendixes are published in this part. The appendices include an atlas of infrared source positions, two bibliographies of infrared literature upon which the search was based, and, keyed to the main Catalog listings (organized alphabetically by first author, and by date), an atlas of infrared spectral ranges, and IRAS data for the CIO sources. The complete CIO database is available to qualified users in printed microfiche and magnetic tape formats.

Far infrared supplement: Catalog of infrared observations, second edition

The Far Infrared Supplement: Catalog of Infrared Observations summarizes all infrared astronomical observations at far infrared wavelengths (5 to 1000 microns) published in the scientific literature from 1965 through 1986. The Supplement list contain 25 percent of the observations in the full Catalog of Infrared Observations (CIO), and essentially eliminates most visible stars from the listings. The Supplement is thus more compact than the main catalog, and is intended for easy reference during astronomical observations. The Far Infrared Supplement (2nd Edition) includes the Index of Infrared Source Positions and the Bibliography of Infrared Astronomy for the subset of far infrared observations listed.

The guide star catalog

Part 1 of the catalog presents an astronomical overview of the Guide Star Catalog, together with its history, the properties of its current implementation, and the prospects for enhancement. Part 2 presents the algorithms used in photometric and astrometric calibration of the catalog, as well as the analyses of the related errors. Part 3 presents the current structure and content, as well as future enhancements in this area. An overview of the forthcoming publications is given, both with regard to scientific papers and electronic media.

A catalog of chromospherically active binary stars

A catalog of 168 chromospherically active binary stars is presented, including the class of RS CVn, BY Dra binaries, and other binaries which show strong Ca II H and K emission in their spectra. The catalog contains information on the photometric, spectroscopic, orbital, and physical properties of the systems as well as the space motions and positions. Summarized in a candidate list are in additional 37 stars having similar characteristics but which are not definitely known binaries or have not had H and K emission observed. The catalog contains stars in both the northern and the southern sky.

A higher density VLBI catalog for navigating Magellan and Galileo

The density of radio sources near the ecliptic in the astrometric JPL Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) catalog has been increased by over 50 percent since 1985. This density increase has been driven by the need for more sources for the VLBI navigation of the Magellan and Galileo spacecraft, but the sources also will be usable for Mars Observer and other future missions. Since the last catalog, including observations made through 1985, was published in 1988, a total of 21 radio sources has been added that fulfill the following criteria: (1) they lie within 10 deg of the ecliptic plane; (2) their correlated flux densities are above 0.2 Jy on at least one of the Deep Space Network intercontinental baselines at both 2.3 and 8.4 GHz; and (3) the source positions are known to better than 5 milliarcseconds (25 nanoradians). The density of such sources in the catalog has been increased from 15.6 per steradian to 25.2 per steradian. Ten more sources have been added that fulfill the last two criteria given above and lie between 10 deg and 20 deg from the ecliptic plane. Analysis shows that there may be approx. 70 more sources with correlated flux densities above 0.2Jy that are within approx. 20 deg of the ecliptic. However, VLBI navigation observations of the new and prospective sources with the 250-kHz bandwidth of the current operational system will require the use of two 70-m antennas in most cases. Including both old and new sources, if two 34-m antennas are used, there will be usable navigation sources within 10 deg of a spacecraft in only 30 percent of the ecliptic, and sources within 20 deg of a spacecraft over 70 percent of the ecliptic.

Mars landing site catalog

The catalog was compiled from material provided by the planetary community for areas on Mars that are of potential interest for future exploration. The catalog has been edited for consistency insofar as practical; however, the proposed scientific objectives and characteristics have not been reviewed. This is a working catalog that is being revised, updated, and expanded continually.

Second catalog of interferometric measurements of binary stars (McAlister and Hartkopf 1988): Documentation for the machine-readable version

The machine-readable version of the catalog, as it is currently being distributed from the Astronomical Data Center, is described. The catalog is a compilation of measurements of binary- and multiple-star systems obtained by speckle interferometric techniques; this version supersedes a previous edition of the catalog published in 1985. Stars that have been examined for multiplicity with negative results are included, in which case upper limits for the separation are given. The second version is expanded from the first in that a file of newly resolved systems and six cross-index files of alternate designations are included. The data file contains alternate identifications for the observed systems, epochs of observation, reported errors in position angles and separation, and bibliographical references.

Catalog of SAS-2 gamma-ray observations (Fichtel, et al. 1990)

The machine-readable version of the catalog, as it is currently being distributed from the Astronomical Data Center, is described. The SAS-2 gamma ray catalog contains fluxes measured with the high energy gamma ray telescope flown aboard the second NASA Small Astronomy Satellite. The objects measured include various types of galaxies, quasi-stellar, and BL Lacertae objects, and pulsars. The catalog contains separate files for galaxies, pulsars, other objects, notes, and references.

A catalog of co-added IRAS fluxes of Orion population stars

A catalog of co-added IRAS fluxes for the pre-main-sequence objects in the Herbig-Bell catalog (HBC) is presented. This catalog doubles the number of HBC stars with detected IRAS fluxes and provides improved flux values for the previously known sources. Noise level are given for all HBC fields in each band, permitting upper limits to be estimated for all undetected sources.

A revised catalog of CfA galaxy groups in the Virgo/Great Attractor flow field

A new identification of groups and clusters in the CfAl Catalog of Huchra, et al. (1983) is presented, using a percolation algorithm to identify density enhancements. The procedure differs from that of the original Geller and Huchra (1983; GH) catalog in several important respects; galaxy distances are calculated from the Virgo-Great Attractor flow model of Faber and Burnstein (1988), the adopted distance linkage criteria is only approx. 1/4 as large as in the Geller and Huchra catalog, the sky link relation is taken from Nolthenius and White (1987), correction for interstellar extinction is included, and 'by-hand' adjustments to group memberships are made in the complex regions of Virgo/Coma I/Ursa Major and Coma/A1367 (to allow for varying group velocity dispersions and to trim unphysical 'spider arms'). Since flow model distances are poorly determined in these same regions, available distances from the IR Tully-Fisher planetary nebula luminosity function and surface brightness resolution methods are adopted if possible.

Washington Double Star Catalog Cross Index (1950 position sort)

A machine-readable version of the Washington Catalog of Visual Double Stars (WDS) was prepared in 1984 on the basis of a data file that was collected and maintained for more than a century by a succession of double-star observers. Although this catalog is being continually updated, a new copy for distribution is not expected to be available for a few years. The WDS contains DM numbers, but many of these are listed only in the notes, which makes it difficult to search for double-star information, except by position. Hence, a cross index that provides complete DM identifications is desirable, and it appears useful to add HD numbers for systems in that catalog. Aitken Double Star (ADS) numbers were retained from the WDS, but no attempt was made to correct these except for obvious errors.

NASA SBIR product catalog, 1991

This catalog is a partial list of products of NASA SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) projects that have advanced to some degree into Phase 3. While most of the products evolved from work conducted during SBIR Phase 1 and 2, a few advanced to commercial status solely from Phase 1 activities. The catalog presents information provided to NASA by SBIR contractors who wished to have their products exhibited at Technology 2001, a NASA-sponsored technology transfer conference held in San Jose, California, on December 4, 5, and 6, 1991. The catalog presents the product information in the following technology areas: computer and communication systems; information processing and AI; robotics and automation; signal and image processing; microelectronics; electronic devices and equipment; microwave electronic devices; optical devices and lasers; advanced materials; materials processing; materials testing and NDE; materials instrumentation; aerodynamics and aircraft; fluid mechanics and measurement; heat transfer devices; refrigeration and cryogenics; energy conversion devices; oceanographic instruments; atmosphere monitoring devices; water management; life science instruments; and spacecraft electromechanical systems.

The NASA SBIR product catalog

The purpose of this catalog is to assist small business firms in making the community aware of products emerging from their efforts in the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. It contains descriptions of some products that have advanced into Phase 3 and others that are identified as prospective products. Both lists of products in this catalog are based on information supplied by NASA SBIR contractors in responding to an invitation to be represented in this document. Generally, all products suggested by the small firms were included in order to meet the goals of information exchange for SBIR results. Of the 444 SBIR contractors NASA queried, 137 provided information on 219 products. The catalog presents the product information in the technology areas listed in the table of contents. Within each area, the products are listed in alphabetical order by product name and are given identifying numbers. Also included is an alphabetical listing of the companies that have products described. This listing cross-references the product list and provides information on the business activity of each firm. In addition, there are three indexes: one a list of firms by states, one that lists the products according to NASA Centers that managed the SBIR projects, and one that lists the products by the relevant Technical Topics utilized in NASA's annual program solicitation under which each SBIR project was selected.

A revised and updated catalog of quasi-stellar objects

The paper contains a catalog of all known quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) with measured emission redshifts, and BL Lac objects, complete to 1992 December 31. The catalog contains 7315 objects, nearly all QSOs including about 90 BL Lac objects. The catalog and references contain extensive information on names, positions, magnitudes, colors, emission-line redshifts, absorption, variability, polarization, and X-ray, radio, and infrared data. A key in the form of subsidiary tables enables the reader to relate the name of a given object to its coordinate name, which is used throughout the compilation. Plots of the Hubble diagram, the apparent magnitude distribution, the emission redshift distribution, and the distribution of the QSOs on the sky are also given.

A catalog of chromospherically active binary stars (second edition)

The catalog contains 206 spectroscopic binary systems with at least one late-type component that shows Ca II H and K emission in its spectrum. These systems include the classical RS CVn binaries and BY Dra binaries. The catalog summarizes information on the photometric, spectroscopic, orbital, and physical properties of the systems as well as space motions and positions. Up to 42 'parameters' for each stellar system are listed followed by the appropriate reference to direct interested colleagues to the original papers. A comprehensive selection of further information for each star is given in the individual notes. In addition, the catalog contains a candidate list of 138 stars that have similar characteristics but are not definitely known binaries or have not had Ca II H and K emission observed.

The Einstein Observatory catalog of IPC x ray sources. Volume 4E: Right ascension range 08h 00m to 11h 59m

The Einstein Observatory (HEAO-2, launched November 13, 1978) achieved radically improved sensitivity over previous x-ray missions through the use of focusing optics which simultaneously afforded greatly reduced background and produced true images. During its 2.5-yr mission, the Einstein X-Ray Telescope was pointed toward some 5,000 celestial targets, most of which were detected, and discovered several thousand additional 'serendipitous' sources in the observed fields. This catalog contains contour diagrams and source data, obtained with the imaging proportional counter in the 0.16 to 3.5 keV energy band, and describes methods for recovering upper limits for any sky position within the observed images, The main catalog consists of six volumes (numbered 2 through 7) of right ascension ordered pages, each containing data for one observation. Along with the primary documentaion describing how the catalog was constructed, volume 1 contains a complete source list, results for merged fields, a reference system to published papers, and data useful for calculating upper limits and fluxes.
