Selective data segment monitoring system

High speed data monitoring apparatus is described for displaying the bit pattern of a selected portion of a block of transmitted data comprising a shift register for receiving the transmitted data and for temporarily containing the consecutive data bits. A programmable sync detector for monitoring the contents of the shift register and for generating a sync signal when the shift register contains a predetermined sync code is included. A counter is described for counting the data bits input to the shift register after the sync signal is generated and for generating a count complete signal when a selected number of data bits have been input to the register. A data storage device is used for storing the contents of the shift register at the time the count complete signal is generated.

The lumbosacral segment as a vulnerable region in various postures

The lumbosacral region in man is exposed to special static and dynamic load. In a supine position, the disc size increases because of the absence of axial load. In a standing position, with physiological posture of the spine, strain discomfort occurs which is increased even more in the sitting position due to the curvature of the lumbar region of the spine and the irregular distribution of pressure in the discs as a result of this. This special problem of sitting posture can be confirmed by examinations.

The inertial properties of the body and its segments

Mass distribution properties of the adult human body are summarized. The summary is user-oriented for design engineers and mathematical modeling. Properties are dicussed in terms of the musculoskeletal linkage system, axes systems, mass, volume, center of mass, and inertial properties. Data and prediction equations or coefficients for modeling these properties are provided. Predictive formulas use total body weight and stature as independent variables. The data are based on small samples of living and cadaveric subjects typical of the white European male.

Classification and mensuration of LACIE segments

The theory of classification methods and the functional steps in the manual training process used in the three phases of LACIE are discussed. The major problems that arose in using a procedure for manually training a classifier and a method of machine classification are discussed to reveal the motivation that led to a redesign for the third LACIE phase.

NOSS flight segment concept study

An 11 ft wide by 26.5 ft long flat structure weighing almost 14,469 pounds evolved during a low level, inhouse conceptual design study for a national oceanic satellite system spacecraft that would stow directly in the space shuttle. Following STS launch to a 300 Km mission orbit inclination, transfer will be effected to a 800 Km Sun synchronous circular orbit. The instrument completement includes 2 altimeters, 1 scatterometer, 1 large antenna multichannel microwave radiometer, and a coastal zone scanner. The spacecraft, its instruments, and interfaces with STS and TDRSS are described. The mission timeline, potential problem areas, system drivers, and recommended study areas are discussed. Drawings and system block diagrams are included.

Assessment of historical and projected segments of US and world civil and military rotorcraft markets, 1960 - 1990

The geographic climatic, political, economic and demographic environment of 75 countries was analyzed with respect to helicopter procurement history and usage. Key environmental indicators which are variables were projected into strengths and weaknesses of U.S. technology are reviewed. The civil market sensitivity to new technology is forecast with selected premises as to vehicle life, noise standards, fuel costs, GNP expansion and traffic growth. The forecast is based on a scenario of helicopter technology improvements resulting in increased size and performance.

A domain segmentation approach to modeling distributed parameter systems

Existing modeling methods in distributed parameter systems are directed to field problems for which a single equation gives an adequate representation. As a result, the techniques are severely taxed when coefficients of the governing partial differential equation (PDE) have relatively complex functional forms. The field is postulated to consist of contiguous regions that are easily modeled. During the modeling process itself, the regional boundaries are identified using a method based on pattern recognition (PR) techniques. The method was tested on computer simulations of a water quality resource system. Quantitative measures are developed and used to demonstrate the feasibility of applying the methodology to realistic distributed parameter systems (DPS's).

Segmented Tubular Seat Springs

Low-cost seat cushion made with rows of hoop springs. Springs formed from elliptical tubes by cutting most of way through on planes perpendicular to cylindrical axis. Tubular spring simplifies construction and reduce cost of seat cushions in vehicles and furniture.

Evaluation of LANDSAT-4 TM and MSS ground segment geometry performance without ground control

The along-line one dimensional FFT algorithm was successfully used to test band-to-band, swath-to-swath, and inter-swath registration of a Washington, D.C. scene. Analysis of the tabulated and plotted results of the MSS and TM P-data shows that a slow spacecraft roll condition of under one hertz exists in this scene. Characteristics of the data for both instruments are listed.

LANDSAT-D flight segment operations manual. Appendix A: Coefficients/calibration data

Telemetry calibration curves for the LANDSAT-4 subsystems are defined by nth order polynomial equations which convert telemetry counts to engineering units. The calibration curve coefficients for each telemetry point are controlled in the data base and are listed along with the unit section number where the sensor is located. Tables showing the coefficients may be obtained from the data base administrator. The tables show telemetry counts versus engineering units.

LANDSAT-D flight segment operations manual. Appendix B: OBC software operations

The LANDSAT 4 satellite contains two NASA standard spacecraft computers and 65,536 words of memory. Onboard computer software is divided into flight executive and applications processors. Both applications processors and the flight executive use one or more of 67 system tables to obtain variables, constants, and software flags. Output from the software for monitoring operation is via 49 OBC telemetry reports subcommutated in the spacecraft telemetry. Information is provided about the flight software as it is used to control the various spacecraft operations and interpret operational OBC telemetry. Processor function descriptions, processor operation, software constraints, processor system tables, processor telemetry, and processor flow charts are presented.
