The Status and Prospects of the Muon $g-2$ Experiment at Fermilab

The E989 Muon $g-2$ Experiment at Fermilab aims to measure the muon magnetic anomaly, $a_\mu$, to an unprecedented precision of 140 parts per billion (ppb), representing a four-fold improvement over the current best measurement, achieved at Brookhaven National Lab. There stands a greater than 3 standard deviations discrepancy between the Brookhaven measurement of $a_\mu$ and the theoretical value predicted using the Standard Model. The Fermilab experiment seeks to either resolve or confirm this discrepancy, which is suggestive of new physics interactions. To achieve the E989 target precision, the anomalous precession frequency of muons in a magnetic storage ring must be determined with a systematic uncertainty below 70\,ppb, and the average magnetic field experienced by these stored muons must be known equally well. The muon anomalous precession frequency is imprinted on the time-dependent energy distribution of decay positrons observed by 24 electromagnetic calorimeters. A suite of pulsed NMR probes continually monitors the magnetic field. This document presents the current status of the Fermilab experiment while emphasizing the ongoing analysis of the 2018 Run 1 dataset and the systematic effects that complicate it.

Status of the Muon-Neutrino-Induced Charged Current Pion Production Measurement with NOvA

NOvA is a world-leading long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment. Its two-detector design allows for a rich physics program to be carried out. In particular, we can take advantage of the intense NuMI beam produced at Fermilab to perform systematics-limited neutrino-nucleus cross-section measurements. Pion production in GeV-scale neutrino-nucleus interactions is a predominant process and measuring it is important for NOvA and future long-baseline experiments. This poster will present the status of the measurement of the differential cross section of muon-neutrino-induced charged pion production using interactions in the NOvA near detector, as well as some of the techniques developed to perform this analysis.

Status of the Inclusive Electron Neutrino Charged-Current Cross-Section Measurement in the NOvA Near Detector

aThe NOvA (NuMI Off-axis $\nu_{e}$ Appearance) experiment is a two-detector, long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment hosted by Fermilab. The primary goal is to measure neutrino oscillation parameters associated with $\nu_\mu \rightarrow \nu_{\mu}$ disappearance and $\nu_\mu \rightarrow \nu_{e} $appearance over a distance of 810 km. These measurements require correct modeling of final state particle kinematics from charged-current (CC) neutrino interactions, thus the $\nu_{e}$ CC inclusive cross section is of particular importance to the appearance measurement. The high rate of neutrino interactions in the NOvA near detector located at Fermilab presents an excellent opportunity for neutrino-nucleus cross section measurements. We present the motivations, analysis techniques and current status of $\nu_{e}$ CC inclusive double-differential cross-section measurement using neutrino interactions recorded in the NOvA near detector.

Cosmic-ray Antinuclei as Messengers of New Physics: Status and Outlook for the New Decade

The precise measurement of cosmic-ray antinuclei serves as an important means for identifying the nature of dark matter and other new astrophysical phenomena, and could be used with other cosmic-ray species to understand cosmic-ray production and propagation in the Galaxy. For instance, low-energy antideuterons would provide a "smoking gun" signature of dark matter annihilation or decay, essentially free of astrophysical background. Studies in recent years have emphasized that models for cosmic-ray antideuterons must be considered together with the abundant cosmic antiprotons and any potential observation of antihelium. Therefore, a second dedicated Antideuteron Workshop was organized at UCLA in March 2019, bringing together a community of theorists and experimentalists to review the status of current observations of cosmic-ray antinuclei, the theoretical work towards understanding these signatures, and the potential of upcoming measurements to illuminate ongoing controversies. This review aims to synthesize this recent work and present implications for the upcoming decade of antinuclei observations and searches. This includes discussion of a possible dark matter signature in the AMS-02 antiproton spectrum, the most recent limits from BESS Polar-II on the cosmic antideuteron flux, and reports of candidate antihelium events by AMS-02; recent collider and cosmic-ray measurements relevant for antinuclei production models; the state of cosmic-ray transport models in light of AMS-02 and Voyager data; and the prospects for upcoming experiments, such as GAPS. This provides a roadmap for progress on cosmic antinuclei signatures of dark matter in the coming years.

FY 2018 Annual Status Report for the Nuclear Fuels and Materials Library

The Nuclear Fuels and Materials Library (NFML), which is owned by U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Nuclear Energy (DOE-NE) and curated by the Nuclear Science User Facilities (NSUF), is a collection of specialized information and nuclear fuel and material samples from past and ongoing irradiation test campaigns. The NFML also includes real-world components retrieved from decommissioned power reactors and donations from other sources. The NFML can be accessed through a web portal at the NSUF web page NSUF.INL.gov or directly at https://nsuf-infrastructure.inl.gov/. The NFML was conceived shortly after the NSUF was established in 2007. The concept was to offer Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) irradiated materials and NSUF project samples that were stored in Idaho National Laboratory (INL) hot cells to researchers for use in NSUF-awarded research projects. The NFML catalogue began as a series of electronic spreadsheets gathered from principal investigators (PI) and INL programs. In the summer of 2016, the spreadsheets were migrated into an online database within the NSUF website. The NFML inventory has continued to grow with the addition of NSUF-funded project specimens, Experimental Breeder Reactor No. 2 (EBR-II) legacy samples, and donated material from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The online library technology further evolved with upgrades for users and administrators of the database. NFML outreach in FY 2018 included NSUF representatives at conferences and workshops domestically and internationally. This document provides a status report on the NFML for FY 2018.

Status of the UCN τ experiment

The neutron is the simplest nuclear system that can be used to probe the structure of the weak interaction and search for physics beyond the standard model. Measurements of neutron lifetime and β-decay correlation coefficients with precisions of 0.02% and 0.1%, respectively, would allow for stringent constraints on new physics. The UCNτ experiment uses an asymmetric magneto-gravitational UCN trap with in situ counting of surviving neutrons to measure the neutron lifetime, τn = 877.7s (0.7s)stat (+0.4/-0.2s)sys. We discuss the recent result from UCNτ, the status of ongoing data collection and analysis, and the path toward a 0.25 s measurement of the neutron lifetime with UCNτ.
