Resonant magnetic perturbations are used to stabilize plasma edge instabilities, so-called edge localized modes (ELMs), in high-performance (H-mode) plasmas explored for fusion energy. These ELMs cause repetitive outburst of confined energy and particles and cause cyclic loading of plasma facing components (PFCs). This endangers the integrity of the PFCs and hence limits the lifetime and hence commercial viability of fusion. It was shown that these ELMs can be stabilized by application of small amplitude resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) fields. This removes the ELMs as edge instabilities but also induces three-dimensional (3D) effects to the plasma boundary, which was formerly toroidally axisymmetric. The impact of this 3D perturbation on the plasma boundary solution needs to be understood to extrapolate the effects to ITER and towards a fusion reactor, if ELM control by RMP fields would be utilized.
Supernova explosions are the some of the most energetic events observed in nature. Almost all (> 99%) of the gravitational binding energy in the core of the massive star is carried away through emitted neutrinos.

This is the final report on DOE Grant No. DE-SC0015513, which was active at Tennessee Technological University (TTU) from May 1, 2016 to April 30, 2023. This report provides an overall summary of the more detailed activities presented in progress reports, covering Budget Periods May 1, 2016- April 30, 2017; May 1, 2017- April 30, 2018; May 1, 2019- April 30, 2020; May 1, 2020- April 30, 2021 and May 1, 2021- April 30, 2022, which were submitted annually to the DOE Office of Nuclear Physics. During the no-cost extension period starting May 1, 2022, our investigations of multi-nucleon exchange mechanism and description of kinetic energy dissipation and fluctuations in Cf250+TH232 and Pb208+Pb208 quasi-fission reactions are in progress.
The first floor of the Radiological Laboratory/Utility/Office Building at TA-55, known as RLUOB (roo-lob) or Plutonium Facility-400 (PF-400), will soon become a bustling and dynamic space as employees and programs increase their work scope thanks to the new hazard category 3 designation. On Feb. 7, NNSA gave the final stamp of approval designating RLUOB as a hazard category 3 (HC-3) nuclear facility. RLUOB has been designated as a radiological facility (less than HC-3) since 2013, when the first phase of RLUOB Equipment Installation was completed. HC-3 is a level up in facility hazard category, a major effort to support the national security mission.

The Weapons Engineering Tritium Facility (WETF) is a Hazard Category 2 nonreactor nuclear facility located in Technical Area 16 (TA-16) of Los Alamos National Laboratory. Tritium related research, development, and processing in support of stockpile stewardship program activities is conducted at WETF. Within WETF, various devices can be used to contain tritium and certain devices are designated as Tritium Containment Vessels (TCVs). Several different device types are identified as TCVs within WETF such as LP-50s and AL-M1s. Historically, a threshold tritium mass value has been used as the mechanism for designating a device as a TCV. When the tritium content of the device was below the tritium mass threshold it was not considered to be a TCV in the formal context. When the tritium content was above the administrative threshold, the device was considered to be a TCV. An upper tritium mass limit was also established for TCVs.
