Leaf gas exchange data, Nov 2018 and May 2019, Daintree Rainforest, Australia

This data package contains leaf gas exchange data for 11 canopy tree species in the control and drought treatments at the Daintree Rainforest Observatory in Queensland, Australia (AU-DRO) with the purpose of testing for differences in gas exchange between treatments. Data were collected at the end of the dry season (November 2018) and end of the wet season (May 2019). Using a canopy crane, large branches (>1 m) were collected from the top of the canopy and immediately placed in a bucket of water, upon which the LI-6800 leaf chamber was clamped onto a recently mature leaf with minimal herbivory. Measurements were recorded every 3 seconds for 3 minutes total. The species included in the dataset are: Castanospermum australe, Cleistanthus myrianthus, Cryptocarya mackinnoniana, Dysoxylum papuanum, Elaeocarpus angustifolius (Elaeocarpus grandis), Endiandra microneura, Mallotus paniculatus, Myristica globosa, Rockinghamia angustifolia, Synima cordierorum, Syzygium spp. The two data files included are: 1. LICOR_Data_AU_DRO_2019_GasEx.csv (a compilation of individual LICOR output files, with correction of user input errors such as incorrect species spelling) 2. ESS_DIVE_Data_AU_DRO_2019_GasEx.csv (selected variables and converted units from LICOR_Data_AU_DRO_2019_GasEx.csv to follow the standard gas exchange reporting format from Ely et al. 2021 Ecological Informatics). The metadata files included are: (3) ESS_DIVE_Metadata_AU_DRO_2019_GasEx.xlsx (4) File_Submission_Metadata_AU_DRP_2019_GasEx.xlsx (5) E-Field_Log_AU_DRO_2019_GasEx.xlsx (6) Data_Column_Description_AU_DRO_2019_GasEx.xlsx.

Chemical Blast Standard (1 kg)

Chemical explosions create blast waves with large overpressure disturbances. It is important to develop a standard blast model based on data to accurately predict acoustic blast-wave amplitudes near detonations and invert for explosion energy from distant observations of blast-wave signals. However, open data from large, controlled chemical explosions with reliable ground truth can be challenging to find. The lack of access to such data could limit the number of contributions to related research and potentially stifle the rate of discoveries or validation of existing models. Here, to address these data scarcity problem, we have curated and compiled a standardized set of 817 blast-wave waveforms from 19 distinct high-explosive events. The blast-wave waveforms are standardized to a 1 kg trinitrotoluene explosion using scaling laws and corrections for location effects. A brief overview of the dataset is presented along with explosion feature models as well as recommendations for extracting explosion features. The resulting dataset is distributed to an open repository in both Seismic Analysis Code and pandas DataFrame formats containing the waveforms, the scaled distances, and the sample rates.

NEWTS Well Summary by Hydrologic Regions and Subbasins in the U.S.

Oil and gas well production data (2000-2022), including water production and injection, as well as summary information (e.g., well count by status, total vertical depth statistics, etc.) spatially summarized by Watershed Boundary Dataset's (WBD) region (Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) 2) and subbasin (HUC8). Energy-related produced waters data were acquired and summarized in support of the development of the National Energy Technology Laboratory's NEWTS (National Energy Water Treatment and Speciation Database). Due to the proprietary nature of the wellbore data, this derived product has been spatially compiled by key areas to support research and stakeholder needs.

Calculations of the equilibrium photoelectron flux in the thermosphere

Theoretical calculations of the equilibrium photoelectron fluxes in the upper atmosphere are reported. The calculations employ an accurate description of the photoelectron production processes and take explicit account of the discrete nature of the electron energy losses. The neutral atmospheric and ionospheric parameters were obtained from simultaneous measurements by the various instruments of the Atmosphere Explorer-C mission and the solar EUV fluxes measured on the same satellite were used. The photoelectron fluxes are calculated using a recent compilation of photon and electron cross section data. The results are in good agreement with the measured photoelectron fluxes over several orders of magnitude, though there are detailed differences at specific energies that have yet to be resolved.

Remote sensing data handbook

A digest of information on remote sensor data systems is given. It includes characteristics of spaceborne sensors and the supportive systems immediately associated therewith. It also includes end-to-end systems information that will assist the user in appraising total data system impact produced by a sensor. The objective is to provide a tool for anticipating the complexity of systems and potential data system problems as new user needs are generated. Materials in this handbook span sensor systems from the present to those planned for use in the 1990's. Sensor systems on all planned missions are presented in digest form, condensed from data as available at the time of compilation. Projections are made of anticipated systems.

HCMM/soil moisture experiment

Progress in the compilation and analysis of airborne and ground data to determine the relationship between the maximum surface minus maximum air temperature differential (delta Tsa) and available water (PAW) is reported. Also, results of an analysis of HCMM images to determine the effect of cloud cover on the availability of HCMM-type data are presented. An inverse relationship between delta Tsa and PAW is indicated along with stable delta Tsa vs. PAW distributions for fully developed canopies. Large variations, both geographical and diurnal, in the cloud cover images are reported. The average monthly daytime cloud cover fluctuated between 40 and 60 percent.

Japanese Magsat Team. A: Crustal structure near Japan and its Antarctic Station. B: Electric currents and hydromagnetic waves in the ionosphere and the magnetosphere

Efforts continue in compiling tapes which contain vector and scalar data decimated at an interval of 0.5 sec, together with time and position data. A map of the total force field anomaly around Japan was developed which shows a negative magnetic anomaly in the Okhotsk Sea. Examination of vector residuals from the MGST model shows that the total force perturbation is almost ascribable to the perturbation parallel to the main geomagnetic field and that the contribution from the perturbation transverse to the main field to the total force perturbation is negligibly small. The influences of ionospheric current with equatorial electroject and of the magnetospheric field aligned current on the dawn-dusk asymmetry of daily geomagnetic variations are being considered. The total amount of electric current flowing through the plane of the Magsat orbit loop was calculated by direct application of Maxwell's equation. Results show that the total electric current is 1 to 5 ampheres, and the current direction is either sunward or antisunward.

An analysis of new techniqes for radiometric correction of LANDSAT-4 Thematic Mapper images

The utility of methods for generating TM RLUTS which can improve the quality of the resultant images was investigated. The TM-CCT-ADDS tape was changed to account for a different collection window for the calibration data. Several scenes of Terrebonne Bay, Louisiana and the Grand Bahamas were analyzed to evaluate the radiometric corrections operationally applied to the image data and to investigate several techniques for reducing striping in the images. Printer plots for the TM shutter data were produced and detector statistics were compiled and plotted. These statistics included various combinations of the average shutter counts for each scan before and after DC restore for forward and reverse scans. Results show that striping is caused by the detectors becoming saturated when they view a bright cloud and depress the DC restore level.

Statistical study of enhanced ion fluxes in the outer plasmasphere

DE-1 measurements of ion outflows at E = 5 eV to 32 keV in the Northern Hemisphere outer plasmasphere are compiled in graphs and investigated statistically. The data comprise 40 dayside (6:00-12:00 magnetic local time) and 50 nightside (18:00-23:00) passages at magnetic activities Kp = 0-7 and include six magnetic storms and recoveries as well as quiet periods. Features noted include enhanced number fluxes during periods of increased magnetic activity, upward dayside and downward nightside flows, peak net H(+) fluxes greater than 10 to the 8th/sq cm sec, and greater field-aligned flows (but at lower ion temperatures) in the outer plasmasphere than in the plasma trough.
