This report details a contribution of Energy Exascale Earth System Model version 3 (E3SMv3) simulations to a proposed model intercomparison project funded and organized by Reflective, a nonprofit group studying the possible global impacts of SAI. Using annual feedback control and seasonally-variable injection sites to achieve a desired global near-surface temperature target, the simulated SAI campaign indicates robust maintenance of the 2020-2039 climatic state over 60 years into the future.

We present a modification to the setup algorithm for the multigrid preconditioner of Wilson fermions in lattice QCD. A larger number of test vectors than that used in conventional multigrid is generated by the smoother. This set of test vectors is then truncated by a singular value decomposition on the chiral components of the test vectors, which are subsequently used to form the prolongation and restriction matrices of the multigrid hierarchy. This modification is demonstrated to improve the convergence of linear equations on an anisotropic lattice with 𝑚𝜋 ≈ 280 MeV from the Hadron Spectrum Collaboration and an isotropic lattice with 𝑚𝜋 ≈ 220 MeV from the MILC Collaboration. The lattice volume dependence of the method is also examined.

We present the discovery of two planets orbiting the nearby (D = 11.9 pc) K7 dwarf Gl 414A. Gl 414A b is a sub-Neptune mass planet with M{sub b}sini{sub b}=7.60{sub −2.19}{sup +2.44} M {sub ⊕} and a semimajor axis of 0.23 ± 0.01 au. Gl 414A c is a sub-Saturn mass planet with M{sub c}sini{sub c}=53.83{sub −8.58}{sup +9.18} M {sub ⊕} and a semimajor axis of 1.43 ± 0.06 au. We jointly analyzed radial velocity data from Keck/HIRES and the Automated Planet Finder at Lick Observatory, as well as photometric data from KELT, to detect the two planets and two additional signals related to the rotationally modulated activity and the long-term magnetic activity cycle of the star. The outer planet in this system may be a potential candidate for future direct-imaging missions.
The supermassive binary system, η Carinae, is experiencing enormous wind-driven mass loss at a rate unparalleled in the rest of the Galaxy. Their wind–wind collision (WWC) continuously produces shock heated, X-ray-emitting plasmas. The XRISM X-ray observatory observed the system in 2023 and 2024 when the X-ray emission began to increase toward periastron passage in 2025. This paper reports unprecedentedly high-resolution X-ray spectra in the Fe Kα band between 6.2 and 7.1 keV, obtained with the Resolve X-ray microcalorimeter. The hydrogen-like (Lyα) and helium-like (Heα) lines reveal three velocity components. Two of them are broadened with maximum velocities of 2000–3000 km s −1 , likely originating from the postshock companion wind. The other is relatively narrow, with a Gaussian broadening of only ∼290 km s −1 in 1σ, which may originate from the postshock companion wind at the WWC stagnation point or penetrating the primary wind. The Fe fluorescent lines exhibit a moderate blueshift and broadening with velocities at 100–200 km s −1 , consistent with the primary wind’s velocity field. The spectra also confirm a Compton shoulder of the Heα line complex for the first time. Both fluorescing and scattering spectral profiles indicate that the binary system is seen from the companion side during these observations. The flux ratio of the Compton-scattering emission to the fluorescent line suggests substantial hydrogen depletion of the primary wind, expected from CNO-cycled hydrogen nuclear fusion gas.
Relativistic Multi-Reference Møller-Plesset (MR-MP) many-body perturbation theory calculations are reported for the ground and excited states of Fe viii. Energies are provided for states coming from the configurations $3{s}^{m}3{p}^{n}3{d}^{p}4{l}^{q}$ (l = s, p, d, and f) with $m+n+p+q=9$, p ≤ 3, and q ≤ 1. The MR-MP results were compared with the recommended observed values in the CHIANTI-v8 database and with previous ab-initio calculations. The MR-MP calculations reproduce 90% of the available observed values within 3500 cm –1 . The previous accurate ab-initio calculations reproduce only 50% of the observed values within 3500 cm –1 . Furthermore, the electronic structure of Fe viii is very complex and our MR-MP results show that accurate calculations require the inclusion of not only 3s 2 –3d 2 , 3p 2 –3d 2 , and 3s3p–3d 2 promotions but also of all electron correlations via perturbation theory.
The X-ray binary system Cygnus X-3 (4U 2030+40, V1521 Cyg) is luminous but enigmatic owing to the high intervening absorption. High-resolution X-ray spectroscopy uniquely probes the dynamics of the photoionized gas in the system. In this Letter, we report on an observation of Cyg X-3 with the XRISM/Resolve spectrometer, which provides unprecedented spectral resolution and sensitivity in the 2–10 keV band. We detect multiple kinematic and ionization components in absorption and emission whose superposition leads to complex line profiles, including strong P Cygni profiles on resonance lines. The prominent Fe xxv Heα and Fe xxvi Lyα emission complexes are clearly resolved into their characteristic fine-structure transitions. Self-consistent photoionization modeling allows us to disentangle the absorption and emission components and measure the Doppler velocity of these components as a function of binary orbital phase. We find a significantly higher velocity amplitude for the emission lines than for the absorption lines. The absorption lines generally appear blueshifted by ∼−500–600 km s −1 . We show that the wind decomposes naturally into a relatively smooth and large-scale component, perhaps associated with the background wind itself, plus a turbulent, denser structure located close to the compact object in its orbit.
