U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon Competition Guide: 2022 Design Challenge and 2023 Build Challenge

The Solar Decathlon offers a unique experience that enables collegiate teams to develop critical career skills, learn from both national experts and peers, and gain valuable insights from world class thought leaders and mentors. Specifically, student teams are challenged to design and (if part of the Solar Decathlon Build Challenge) build highly energy-efficient buildings powered by renewable energy. Teams are evaluated on 10 measured contests, and the winning teams are those that best blend the topics of architectural and engineering excellence with innovation, market potential, building efficiency, smart energy production, and environmental justice.

User Guide for the Public Industrial CO2 Capture Retrofit Database Models

OBSOLETE CCRD – SUPERSEDED
The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) user manual accompanies the carbon capture retrofit database (CCRD) model that allows users to evaluate the cost of carbon capture on industrial sources (ammonia, cement, ethanol, hydrogen, and natural gas processing). The model was created by the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) based on the technical report titled "Cost of Capturing CO2 from Industrial Sources" (NETL/DOE-2022/3319). Revised 12/21/22.

Optical Wavelength Guided Self-Supervised Feature Learning For Galaxy Cluster Richness Estimate

Most galaxies in the nearby Universe are gravitationally bound to a cluster or group of galaxies. Their optical contents, such as optical richness, are crucial for understanding the co-evolution of galaxies and large-scale structures in modern astronomy and cosmology. The determination of optical richness can be challenging. We propose a self-supervised approach for estimating optical richness from multi-band optical images. The method uses the data properties of the multi-band optical images for pre-training, which enables learning feature representations from a large but unlabeled dataset. We apply the proposed method to the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. The result shows our estimate of optical richness lowers the mean absolute error and intrinsic scatter by 11.84% and 20.78%, respectively, while reducing the need for labeled training data by up to 60%. We believe the proposed method will benefit astronomy and cosmology, where a large number of unlabeled multi-band images are available, but acquiring image labels is costly.

Healthy Indoor Air Quality: A Guide to Understanding Pollutants in Extreme Cold Climates

Internal air quality management through commonly supported recommendations in extreme cold weather climates is complicated by cold air infiltration. Air filtration and IAQ monitoring, through central and stand-alone systems can improve internal air quality to the benefit of occupant health and safety. This fact sheet includes reference information for pollutants, sources, health effects, and mitigation strategies.

Control flow guided lock address prefetch and filtering

A method of prefetching target data includes, in response to detecting a lock-prefixed instruction for execution in a processor, determining a predicted target memory location for the lock-prefixed instruction based on control flow information associating the lock-prefixed instruction with the predicted target memory location. Target data is prefetched from the predicted target memory location to a cache coupled with the processor, and after completion of the prefetching, the lock-prefixed instruction is executed in the processor using the prefetched target data.
