Atlas of soil reflectance properties

A compendium of soil spectral reflectance curves together with soil test results and site information is presented in an abbreviated manner listing those soil properties most important in influencing soil reflectance. Results are presented for 251 soils from 39 states and Brazil. A narrative key describes relationships between soil parameters and reflectance curves. All soils are classified according to the U.S. soil taxonomy and soil series name for ease of identification.

New atlas of IR solar spectra

Over 4500 absorption lines have been marked on the spectra and the corresponding line positions tabulated. The associated absorbing telluric or solar species for more than 90% of these lines have been identified and only a fraction of the unidentified lines have peak absorptions greater than a few percent. The high resolution and the low Sun spectra greatly enhance the sensitivity limits for identification of trace constituents.

An atlas of 1977 and 1978 GEOS-3 radar altimeter data for tropical cyclone studies

All of the GEOS 3 satellite altimeter schedule information were collected with all of the available 1977 and 1978 tropical cyclone positional information. The time period covers from March 23, 1977 through Nov. 23, 1978. The geographical region includes all ocean area north of the equator divided into the following operational areas: the Atlantic area (which includes the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico); the eastern Pacific area; the central and western Pacific area; and the Indian Ocean area. All available source material concerning tropical cyclones was collected. The date/time/location information was extracted for each disturbance. This information was compared with the GEOS 3 altimeter ON/OFF history information to determine the existence of any altimeter data close enough in both time and location to make the data potentially useful for further study (the very liberal criteria used was time less than 24 hours and location within 25 degrees). Geographic plots (cyclone versus GEOS 3 orbit track) were produced for all of the events found showing the approximate location of the cyclone and the GEOS 3 orbit traces for the full day.

Ultraviolet photometry from the Orbiting Astronomical Observatory. XXXVIII - A second atlas of ultraviolet stellar spectra

Ultraviolet stellar spectra are presented for 132 stars in the spectral region from 1200 to 1850 A and 34 stars in the region from 1800 to 3600 A in a graphical and tabular form. The spectra represent a subset of OAO 2 spectrometer data on file at the National Space Science Data Center. The monochromatic flux is given in units of ergs/sq cm s A with a spectral resolution of about 12 A in the region from 1850 to 1160 A and of about 22 A in the region from 3600 to 1800 A.

An atlas of emission line fluxes of planetary nebulae in the 1150-3200 A region

Emission line fluxes for 28 planetary nebulae are presented. The nebulae were chosen to cover a wide range of excitation classes, apparent diameters, location in the sky, and types of central stars. All objects were observed in the low dispersion mode of the IUE spectrographs, using the large entrance aperture.

Atlas of absorption lines from 0 to 17 900 cm(-1)

Plots of absorption line strength versus line position for wavenumbers from 0 to 17,900 cm(-1) are shown for 20 atmospheric gases (H2O, CO2, O3, N2O, CO, CH4, O2, NO, SO2, NO2, NH3, HNO3, OH, HF, HCl, HBr, HI, ClO, OCS, H2CO). Also shown are similar plots of lower-state energy values for adsorption lines for the strongly adsorbing atmospheric gases (H2O, CO2, O3, and CH4) for wavenumbers from 0 to 5000 cm(-1).

IUE ultraviolet spectral atlas

Low dispersion trailed spectra for a group of normal stars, with sample plot and flux tables, are presented. Exposure times are computed assuming 21.4 and 20.5 arcsec aperture lengths.

Viking Lander Atlas of Mars

Half size reproductions are presented of the extensive set of systematic map products generated for the two Mars Viking landing sites from stereo pairs of images radioed back to Earth. The maps span from the immediate foreground to the remote limits of ranging capability, several hundred meters from the spacecraft. The maps are of two kinds - elevation contour and vertical profile. Background and explanatory material important for understanding and utilizing the map collection included covers the Viking Mission, lander locations, lander cameras, the stereo mapping system and input images to this system.

Ozone climatology series. Volume 1: Atlas of total ozone, April 1970 - December 1976

Contours and gridded values are given for seven years of monthly mean total ozone data derived from observations with the Backscattered Ultraviolet instrument on Nimbus-4 for the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The instrument, algorithm, uncertainties in derived ozone and systematic changes in the bias with respect to the international groundbased ozone network of Dobson instruments, are discussed.

Atlas of high resolution infrared spectra of carbon dioxide, February 1983

A long path, low pressure laboratory spectrum of carbon dioxide is presented for the spectral region 1830 to 2010/cm. The data were recorded at 0.01/cm resolution and room temperature with the Fourier transform spectrometer in the McMath solar telescope complex at Kitt Peak National Observatory. A list of positions and assignments is given for the 1038 lines observed in this region. A total of 30 bands and subbands of 12C16O2, 13C16O2, 12C16O18O, 12C16O17O, and 13C16O18O were observed.

The Cambridge photographic atlas of the planets

The origin of the solar systems is considered along with the formation of the planets, the evolution of the planets, the surfaces of solid planets, and the atmosphere of the planets. A description is provided of the various planets of the solar system. It is pointed out that Mercury was little known until March 1974 when the Mariner 10 spacecraft made the first of its three flybys of that body. In the case of Venus, the Pioneer mission to Venus by NASA in 1978 provided a breakthrough concerning a knowledge of the solid body hidden beneath the clouds. The characteristics of the planet earth are discussed together with information about the moon. A shaded relief map of Mars illustrates the geographic features of this planet. The map was produced with the aid of Mariner 9 photographs. Maps of the Jovian system based on photographs provided by space missions are also presented, and the Saturnian system is discussed, taking into account major satellites and rings of Saturn.

The SIR-A atlas

The scientific payload on the Space Shuttle Columbia carried into Earth orbit is discussed. Part of the payload was the Shuttle Imaging Radar system (SIR-A). The objectives of the SIR-A experiment were to acquire radar images of a wide variety of different geologic terrains around the Earth, to demonstrate the capability of the Shuttle as a platform for conducting spaceborne scientific investigations, and to analyze and interpret the data in the radar images. The SIR-A sensor imaged about 10 million sq km of the Earth's surface. High resolution images were acquired over portions of every continent and some of the oceans between latitudes 41 N and 35 S. The SIR-A incidence angle ranges from 47 deg to 53 across an image swath of approximately 50 km.

Voyager 1 and 2 Atlas of Six Saturnian Satellites

Maps, compiled with data gathered primarily by Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft, are presented which show the diversity among six of the Saturnian moons. Mimas and Enceladus are mapped in detail. Prelimary maps are given for the other four satellites. Diameter, density, albedo, and distance from mother planet, among much more data, is given for each moon.

Atlas of Archived Vegetation, Land-use and Seasonal Albedo Data Sets

Global digital data bases of natural vegetation and land use were compiled, for use in climate studies, at 1 deg resolution from over 100 published sources. A series of 6 data sets, derived from the original compilations, was prepared and archived on tape at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) (Matthews, 1984). The first is a vegetation data set representing natural (pre-agricultural) vegetation based on the UNESCO classification system. The second, derived from the land-use compilation, is a cultivation-intensity data set defining the areal extent of presently-cultivated land in the 1 deg cells. The last four are integrated surface-albedo data sets (January, April, July, October) for snow-free conditions, incorporating natural-vegetation and cultivation characteristics from the vegetation and cultivation-intensity data sets. Each of these data sets covers the entire surface of the earth. They include non-zero data for permanent land only, including continental ice; water, including oceans and lakes, is zero. The present report includes maps, presented by continent, of the complete archived data, with the exception of Antarctica.
