Multiphase two dimensional mixing and combustion of flow fields suspended in gaseous medium for propulsion systems problems, obtaining governing equations
A technique is described and utilized in the study of the solutions to various general problems in optimal control theory, which are converted in to Lagrange problems in the calculus of variations. This is accomplished by mapping certain properties in Euclidean space onto closed control and state regions. Nonlinear control problems with a unit m cube as control region and unit n cube as state region are considered.
Study of the failure of glass windows, which is probably the most severe problem confronting the SST program outside of the psychological and sociological aspects. The structural configuration most likely to suffer a window failure due to sonic boom excitation is one representable by a single large room, a single large window, and an open door. It is suggested that if the open door were replaced with another window the resultant stresses in both windows would be substantially reduced.

Controllability of time-invariant discrete-time bilinear systems is discussed. Bilinear systems are classified into two categories: homogeneous and inhomogeneous. Sufficient conditions which ensure the global controllability of discrete-time bilinear systems are obtained by localized analysis in control variables.

A low-energy spectrum of gamma-rays following muon capture in O-16 was obtained with a high-resolution 1 cu cm Ge(Li) detector. The graph of the spectrum shows the separation of contaminant peaks from the 120 keV N-16 line. It is pointed out that there is a large discrepancy between the capture rate obtained in the investigation and results reported by Deutsch et al. (1969).

Advances in the analysis of adhesive-bonded joints are presented with particular emphasis on advanced composite structures. The joints analyzed are of double-lap, single-lap, scarf, stepped-lap and tapered-lap configurations. Tensile, compressive, and in-plane shear loads are covered. In addition to the usual geometric variables, the theory accounts for the strength increases attributable to adhesive plasticity (in terms of the elastic-plastic adhesive model) and the joint strength reductions imposed by imbalances between the adherends. The solutions are largely closed-form analytical results, employing iterative solutions on a digital computer for the more complicated joint configurations. In assessing the joint efficiency, three potential failure modes are considered. These are adherend failure outside the joint, adhesive failure in shear, and adherend interlaminar tension failure (or adhesive failure in peel). Each mode is governed by a distinct mathematical analysis and each prevails throughout different ranges of geometric sizes and proportions.

A rigorous proof of the 'strong bias tone' scheme is embodied in the implicit sampling theorem. The representation of signals that are sample functions of possible nonstationary random processes being of principal interest, the proof could not directly invoke results from classical analysis, which depend on the existence of the Fourier transform of the function under consideration; rather, it is based on Zakai's (1965) theorem on the series expansion of functions, band-limited under a suitably extended definition. A practical circuit that restores an approximate version of the signal from its sine-wave-crossings is presented and possible improvements to it are discussed.

The theories of differential games and generalized dynamic systems are used to deduce stabilizing controllers for quasi-linear systems. Attention is given to a class of dynamic systems subject to parameter and input uncertainty whose values range in a given compact set. Using a worst case design philosophy, a feedback control is derived that assures uniform asymptotic (Liapunov) stability of the origin under all admissible uncertainties.
