Emulating Variable Uranium Enrichments With Radiation Signature Training Devices (RSTD)

Radiological signature training devices (RSTDs) are sealed sources (or assemblies of sources) that emulate the radiation signature of larger masses of special nuclear material for passive detection while maintaining a minimal logistical footprint in security, radiological safety, criticality safety, and transportation requirements. Previous work focused on emulation of large quantities of highly enriched uranium for search and field identification with radioisotope identification detectors and mobile systems. New work has expanded into investigating use of the RSTDs with laboratory safeguards tools, such as MGAU and FRAM, and emulating uranium spectra of multiple enrichments over more energy regions (particularly the x-ray region).

Systems and methods for distributed authentication of devices

A lightweight, fast, and reliable authentication mechanism compatible with the 5G D2D ProSe standard mechanisms is provided. A distributed authentication with a delegation-based scheme avoids repeated access to the 5G core network key management functions. Hence, a legitimate user equipment device (e.g., a drone) is authorized by the cellular network (e.g., 5G cellular network) via offering a proxy signature to authenticate itself to other drones. Test results demonstrate that the protocol is lightweight and reliable.

Wearable health monitoring device

A wearable patient device is provided that includes one or more sensors. The one or more sensors can record one or both of ECG information or phonocardiographic information. The sensor information can be used to determine the blood pressure of a monitored individual, including on a continuous basis. Blood pressure can be determined using one or both of a determined time to empty or fill one or more heart chambers or first and second blood velocities. Vital sign information can be provided to a monitoring individual, including graphical representations of trend information.

Devices and methods for separating components

A method, system, and device for separating components is described. A vessel is provided. A first volume of a process liquid, containing a first component and a second component, is passed into an inner chamber. The piston retracts to a first position. The fluid inlet is closed. The piston is retracted to a second position, causing the first component and a first portion of the second component to flash to form a vapor stream while a second portion of the second component freezes to form a solid product stream. The fluid outlet is then opened. The piston is advanced to a third position that results in a third volume, smaller than the first volume, such that the vapor stream is expelled. The fluid outlet is closed. The piston is fully closed such that the solid product stream is pressed into and extruded through the solids outlet.
