Techno-Economic Analysis of Biofuel Production via Catalytic Upgrading of Carbohydrates in Paper Sludge

A full-plant model was developed using correlations from a rigorous mass and energy balance and based on experimental results to determine the MFSP and its Sensitivity Analysis in the production of a hydrocarbon product from Paper Sludge. In this base case a preliminary MFSP of $5.97/GGE has been determined. This value is higher than the results reported in recent NREL reports. The difference is explained since much larger capacity plants are considered in those reports, and because we are not considering the production of co-products that bring the fuel costs down. The obtained model is being used to guide the next steps in our laboratory work since the team is now aware of which are the more sensitive process parameters "impacting" the MFSP of the final product.

Catalytic converters having non-linear flow channels

Disclosed is a honeycomb catalyst substrate core having geometrically non-linear flow channels. In an embodiment, the honeycomb catalyst substrate core includes helical flow channels. In another embodiment, the honeycomb catalyst substrate core includes sinusoidal flow channels. In yet another embodiment, the honeycomb catalyst substrate core includes helical plus sinusoidal flow channels. The honeycomb catalyst substrate core comprises a plurality of parallel non-linear flow channels formed along a longitudinal axis of symmetry of the catalyst substrate core, each non-linear flow channel configured such that eddies occurs during engine exhaust gas flow. Also disclosed is a method for manufacturing a ceramic honeycomb having non-linear flow channels, comprising the steps extrusion soft ceramic material through a die whilst the die moves through six degrees of freedom along its axis of symmetry. Disclosure includes a method for manufacturing a ceramic honeycomb having non-linear flow channels using three-dimensional printing.

Catalytic conversion of ethanol to 1-/2-butenes

Simple and economical conversion of aqueous ethanol feed streams into butenes by a single step method using transition metal oxides on a silica supports under preselected processing conditions. By directly producing a C4-rich olefin mixture from an ethanol containing stream various advantages are presented including, but not limited to, significant cost reduction in capital expenses and operational expenses.

First Principles Density Functional Theory and NMR Study of Catalytic Adsorption and Formation of Mo/HZSM-5-based Microwave Catalysts

This work is a summary of atomic level catalyst design on a Mo/HZSM-5 zeolite catalyst to determine the formation of Mo carbide species during exposure of CO and CH4. We also look at specific features of the activated form of the catalyst including charge distributions, bond orders, and polarizations that might be susceptible during MW irradiation.
