Folding tool for preparing FCC molded-plug terminations

Assemblies consist of window piece, conductor spacer, insulator, outer seal, and molded portion that integrates all components. Preparation of FCC for molded plug termination requires that terminated ends of conductors in each cable be accurately folded simultaneously into spacer end and groove.

Micro-scale crease-and-fold apparatus

Crease and fold resistance of polymeric films and test equipment for determining mechanical properties is discussed. Components of equipment and method of operation are described. Illustration of test device is provided.

A study to determine the flight characteristics and handling qualitites of variable geometry spacecraft. Volume 3: Low L/D concept with fold-down wings

A study was conducted to determine the flight characteristics and wing deployment transients for a variable geometry spacecraft concept having a hypersonic lift-to-drag ratio near 1.0, and employing fold-down wings. Unpowered flight conditions were considered throughout the study. The body of the spacecraft uses a trapezoidal cross section. The variable geometry wings, stowed in the sides of the vehicle, are deployed at transonic speeds.

Evolution of ribonuclease in relation to polypeptide folding mechanisms.

Comparisons of the N-terminal region of pancreatic RNAase in seven species are presented, taking into account cow, bison, deer, rat, pig, kangaroo, and turtle. The available limited evidence on hypervariable regions indicates that there is still an evolutionary constraint on them. It is proposed that there is a selection pressure acting on all regions of a protein sequence in evolution. Mutations that tend to obstruct the folding process can lead to various intensities of selection pressure.

On the folding phenomenon of comet tail rays

It is shown that the folding phenomenon of the comet tail rays is compatible with the Ferraro isorotation law if the comet tail magnetic field has no azimuthal component, that is, B sub phi (the polar angle) equals zero. Considering electric drift due to convectional electric fields, a formula is obtained for the angular rate of a ray closure which reduces to that of Ness and Donn (1966) if the velocity profile across the tail is linear. The magnetic field B of approximately 20-40 gammas in the coma and less than about 10 gammas in the distant tail is estimated under typical solar wind conditions at 1 AU.

Analytic determinations of single-folding optical potentials

A simple analytic method for calculating nucleon-nucleus optical potentials using a single folding of a Gaussian two body interaction with an arbitrary nuclear distribution is presented. When applied to proton-lead elastic scattering, the predicted real part of the Woods-Saxon potential is in substantial agreement with the experimentally determined phenomenological potential, although there are no adjustable parameters. In addition, the volume integrals of both real potentials are nearly identical.

Folded Fabry-Perot quasi-optical ring resonator diplexer Theory and experiment

Performance of folded Fabry-Perot quasi-optical ring resonator diplexers with different geometries of reflecting surfaces is investigated both theoretically and experimentally. Design of optimum surface geometry for minimum diffraction, together with the figure of merit indicating improvement in performance, are given.

Mechanics of fold-and-thrust belts and accretionary wedges Cohesive Coulomb theory

A self-consistent theory for the mechanics of thin-skinned accretionary Coulomb wedges is developed and applied to the active fold-and-thrust belt of western Taiwan. The state of stress everywhere within a critical wedge is determined by solving the static equilibrium equations subject to the appropriate boundary conditions. The influence of wedge cohesion, which gives rise to a concave curvature of the critical topographic surface and affects the orientation of the principal stresses and Coulomb fracture within the wedge, is considered. The shape of the topographic surface and the angles at which thrust faults step up from the basal decollement in the Taiwanese belt is analyzed taking into account the extensive structural and fluid-pressure data available there. It is concluded that the gross geometry and structure of the Taiwan wedge are consistent with normal laboratory frictional and fracture strengths of sedimentary rocks.
