Square tubing reduces cost of telescoping bridge crane hoist

Using standard square tubing in a telescoping arrangement reduces the cost of a bridge crane hoist. Because surface tolerances of square tubing need not be as accurate as the tubing used previously and because no spline is necessary, the square tubing is significantly less expensive than splined telescoping tubes.

Characteristics of NbN Dayem bridges

NbN Dayem bridge characteristics, discussing negative resistance region, self induced subharmonic current steps, temperature dependence and microwave radiation effects

Pulse excitation of bolometer bridges

Driving bolometer bridge by appropriately phased excitation pulses increases signal-to-noise ratio of bolometer sensor which operates on a chopped light beam. Method allows higher applied voltage than is possible by conventional ac or dc excitation.

Galactic bridges and tails.

This paper argues that the bridges and tails seen in some multiple galaxies are just tidal relics of close encounters. These consequences of the brief but violent tidal forces are here studied in a deliberately simple-minded fashion. Each encounter is considered to involve only two galaxies and to be roughly parabolic; each galaxy is idealized as just a disk of noninteracting test particles which initially orbit a central mass point. As shown here, the two-sided distortions provoked by gravity alone in such circumstances can indeed evolve kinematically into some remarkably narrow and elongated features. Besides extensive pictorial survey of tidal damage, this paper offers reconstructions of the orbits and outer shapes of four specific interacting pairs: Arp 295, M51 + NGC 5195, NGC 4676, and NGC 4038/9.

Three-point bridge calibration with one resistor

Method calibrates transducer bridge curing unbalanced condition and line resistance errors are negligible. Series resistance method can be automated easily and controlled by 2-bit information source which provide 4 states for switches.

Digicon photometry of an intergalactic bridge

Surface brightness and color data are derived for two points in the bridge and tail structure of Arp 295. The best observed point has a surface brightness in V of 25.9 magnitudes per square arc second and (B-V) = +1.00 m. A point on the tail is brighter with the same color.

Microwave mixing with niobium variable thickness bridges

Niobium thin-film bridges 300-A thick, 1-micron wide, and 0.5-micron long joining two bulk films 5000-A thick and having normal resistance of the order of 1 ohm have been fabricated and used for microwave mixing at 10 GHz. They exhibit Josephson, bolometric, and multiple-flux-flow mixing and have useful response at 100-200 GHz. The data show in a direct way limitations imposed by flux flow and heating.
