In this study, we will calculate the 3H2 and 3H2O diffusion mechanism in the Ni coated layer and the dominant 3H species dissolution into the Zircaloy-4 getter. We will optimize the Ni/Zr interface and introduce Sn and O impurities. To achieve the objectives, we will perform the investigation by using spin-polarized density functional theory (DFT) methods to capture the effects of Ni magnetic properties on 3H diffusion. We will introduce NiO/Ni(OH) on the Ni side closer to the interface. Then, the 3H diffusion pathways and barriers from Ni side to the zircalory-4 will be explored. We will investigate how NiO/Ni(OH) affects the 3H diffusion across the interface.
This report documents the integral experiment evaluation and publication for IER-532 (TEX-Hf), Thermal/Epithermal eXperiments (TEX) with highly enriched uranium (HEU) fuel and hafnium (Hf), moderated and reflected by polyethylene. The design of TEX-Hf is a variation of IER-297 (TEX-HEU), with the inclusion of hafnium as a diluent material. The experiment and evaluation include seven configurations, all of which were acceptable as benchmark cases. These benchmark cases provide validation for hafnium in the thermal, intermediate, and fast neutron energy regimes by maximizing the sensitivity in k eff to the hafnium cross sections. The evaluation was reviewed and accepted by the International Criticality Safety Benchmark Evaluation Project (ICSBEP) Technical Review Group on April 17, 2024, and was submitted to the ICSBEP in August 2024 following subgroup approval.
α-Zr and its alloys are known as best 3 H getters due to their excellent corrosion resistance under chemically corrosive environment, low thermal neutron absorption cross-section and robust mechanical strength at high temperature. In this work, we conducted a systematic study on constructing and optimizing Ni and Zr surfaces, interfacing the stable Ni and Zr surfaces to create an optimal Ni-Zr interface, and an understanding the diffusion mechanisms for 3 H across Ni(111)-Zr(0001) interface with and without vacancies and impurities such as Sn and O.
Validation of a CFD model for Membrane-based carbon capture. We compare our high-fidelity 3D CFD Model to a conventional cross-flow 1D model. We show that for high-performing membranes, the 1D model is very limited and struggles to represent the separation system.

The University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) located in Columbia, Missouri is one of six U.S. High Performance Research Reactors (USHPRR), including one critical facility, that is actively collaborating with U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Material Management and Minimization (M3) Office of Reactor Conversion and Uranium Supply to convert from the use of highly enriched uranium (HEU; $\geqslant$ 20 wt% U-235) to low-enriched uranium (LEU; <20 wt% U-235) fuel. A new type of very high-density LEU fuel based on an alloy of uranium and 10 wt% molybdenum (U-10Mo) is expected to allow the conversion to LEU of MURR, as well as four other USHPRR.
