Impact of LHC precision measurements of inclusive jet and dijet production on the CTEQ-TEA global PDF fit
In this study, we investigate the impact of new Large Hadron Collider (LHC) inclusive jet and dijet measurements on parton distribution functions (PDFs) that describe the proton structure, with a particular focus on the gluon distribution at large momentum fraction, x , and the corresponding partonic luminosities. We assess constraints from these datasets using next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) theoretical predictions, accounting for a range of uncertainties from scale dependence and numerical integration. From the scale choices available for the calculations, our analysis shows that the central predictions for inclusive jet production show a smaller scale dependence than dijet production. We examine the relative constraints on the gluon distribution provided by the inclusive jet and dijet distributions, and also explore the phenomenological implications for inclusive H , t t ¯ , and t t ¯ H production at the LHC at 14 TeV. Constraining the nuclear gluon PDF with inclusive hadron production data
The nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) of gluons are known to be difficult to determine with fits of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) and Drell-Yan (DY) data alone. Therefore, the nCTEQ15 analysis of nuclear PDFs added inclusive neutral pion production data from RHIC to help in constraining the gluon. In this analysis, we present a new global analysis of nuclear PDFs based on a much larger set of single inclusive light hadron data from RHIC and the LHC. Using our new nCTEQ code (nCTEQ++) with an optimized version of INCNLO we study systematically the limitations of the theory and the impact of the fragmentation function uncertainty.
CJ15 global PDF analysis with new electroweak data from the STAR and SeaQuest experiments
We present updates to a recent CTEQ-Jefferson Lab (CJ) global analysis of parton distribution functions with a new set of electroweak data that provide unique access to quark flavor separation in the proton. In particular, recent W W and Z Z boson measurements from the STAR experiment at RHIC put additional constraints on light quarks and antiquarks near the valence regime. The new measurement of the Drell-Yan lepton pair production ratio in p+p p + p and p+d p + d collisions by the SeaQuest experiment at Fermilab extends the large- x x coverage of the previous E866 experiment and sheds new light on the light antiquarks distribution. In this report, the impact of these new data sets on parton distribution functions will be presented with emphasis given to the flavor asymmetry of the light antiquark sea at large values of the parton momentum x x .

Tank Closure Cesium Removal Ion Exchange Column CST Characterization: SRNL-STI-2024-00072 (Rev.0) pdf
Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) recently suspended operation of the Tank Closure Cesium Removal (TCCR) system which utilized an ion exchange (IX) process to remove radioactive cesium from waste supernate. During the demonstration phase, a total of three batches of Tank 10H dissolved salt waste were processed through the original TCCR columns. Subsequently, dissolved salt waste from Tank 9H was processed through TCCR in a phase referred to as TCCR 1A with four new IX columns. All eight columns have now been moved to Interim Safe Storage (ISS). For each batch processed through the TCCR IX columns, SRNL performed a number of analyses on surface and variable depth samples as well as batch equilibrium contact tests (BECT) to determine equilibrium loadings of Cs on the crystalline silicotitanate (CST) IX media. The BECTs were performed by lowering “teabags” containing ~0.1 g of CST each into the tank for a period of at least 10 days. The teabags were then retrieved and sent to SRNL for digestion and analysis.

FY24 LDRD Annual Report PDF
The Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) Program at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is the Lab's most significant resource for supporting internally directed research and development. It provides investments in cutting-edge science, technology, and engineering. This program expands the frontiers of knowledge, creates capabilities required by our evolving mission needs, and attracts and retains the world's most talented scientists and engineers. In this annual report, we describe the LDRD investment portfolio, provide information to demonstrate the program's value and impact to LLNL's science, technology and engineering capabilities, and showcase LDRD accomplishments across the Lab's mission space.
Determining SMEFT and PDF parameters simultaneously based on the CTEQ-TEA framework
The SM effective field theory (SMEFT) provides a model-independent and systematically improvable framework for new physics searches. In this talk, we outline our approach of simultaneously fitting SMEFT parameters and Probability Density Functions (PDFs) in an extension of the CT18 global analysis framework. To enhance the efficiency of our global fitting and Lagrange multiplier scans, we leverage machine-learning techniques. We focus on several representative operators relevant to top-quark pair production and jet production. Through this approach, we establish self-consistent limitations on the associated Wilson coefficients, and explore the correlations between these Wilson coefficients and the PDFs.
Modeling turbulent/chemistry interactions using assumed pdf methods
Two assumed probability density functions (pdfs) are employed for computing the effect of temperature fluctuations on chemical reaction. The pdfs assumed for this purpose are the Gaussian and the beta densities of the first kind. The pdfs are first used in a parametric study to determine the influence of temperature fluctuations on the mean reaction-rate coefficients. Results indicate that temperature fluctuations significantly affect the magnitude of the mean reaction-rate coefficients of some reactions depending on the mean temperature and the intensity of the fluctuations. The pdfs are then tested on a high-speed turbulent reacting mixing layer. Results clearly show a decrease in the ignition delay time due to increases in the magnitude of most of the mean reaction rate coefficients.
