MISR Level 2 Aerosol parameters (MIL2ASAE_V1)

The Aerosol data contain aerosol optical depth, aerosol physical model, ancillary meteorological data, and related parameters. The aerosol data include tropospheric aerosol optical depth, Angstrom exponent and single scattering albedo on 17.6 km centers, aerosol mixture identifier and retrieval residuals, and ancillary data including assumed ozone optical depth and retrieval flags. For complete information about the aerosol mixtures, the user will need to order the MISR Aerosol Climatology Product (MIANACP) to obtain Aerosol Physical and Optical Properties (APOP) and the Mixture files. The Mixture files list up to 3 component models used in each mixture, with their relative compositional fractions, and includes ancillary information such as single scattering albedo. The APOP gives detailed information for the component particle models. MISR radiometric camera-by-camera Cloud Mask (MIRCCM_V3)

The MISR instrument consists of nine pushbroom cameras which measure radiance in four spectral bands. Global coverage is achieved in nine days. The cameras are arranged with one camera pointing toward the nadir, four cameras pointing forward and four cameras pointing aftward. It takes 7 minutes for all nine cameras to view the same surface location. The view angles relative to the surface reference ellipsoid, are 0, 26.1, 45.6, 60.0, and 70.5 degrees. The spectral band shapes are nominally gaussian, centered at 443, 555, 670, and 865 nm. The RCCM is derived from the radiance values, and is calculated independently for each camera. Therefore, the amount of apparent cloudiness will vary with view angle, with the oblique view angles generally being more cloudy than the near-nadir ones. Since the RCCM is calculated primarily from the radiance values, it does not work well over snow and ice and will usually confuse clear snow/ice with cloud. It works the best over clear-sky ocean, but other surface types are also of quite good quality. The RCCM product also contains a glint mask for each camera, and this mask is set to true whenever the scattering angles indicate that glint could be possible. This glint mask is not masked out over land; users must do this step themselves. A Spectralon BRF Data Base for MISR Calibration Application

The Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) is an Earth observing sensor which will provide global retrievals of aerosols, clouds, and land surface parameters. Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR): Optical Characterization of the Spectralon Calibration Panels

The reflectance properties of an engineering model of the Spectralon panel intended for use within an On-Board Calibrator (OBC) on the NASA Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) instrument have been fully characterized with regard to panel uniformity and isotropy in response to three incident laser wavelengths of 442, 632.8 and 859.9 nm. A regional variation in bidirectional reflectance function (BRF) across the surface of the engineering model (EM) panel, contributing to spatial non-uniformity at the +/-2% level has been measured at all three laser wavelengths. Further, a BRF anisotropy has been identified. The mechanism causing these departures from the ideal Lambertian surface may originate in the sanding of the Spectralon surface in the final stage of preparation. This is corroborated by measurements made on a 'pressed' polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) panel in which a greatly reduced anisotropy in panel BRF is measured. The EM panel BRF reveals deviation from a Lambertian characteristic manifest as an off-specular peak in the forward scattering direction. A common cross-over point at an angle of reflection of around 37 at which the BRF is constant within 0.4% for an illumination angle range of ui = 30 60 is observed at all three wavelengths. Two Spectralon protoflight panels which were fabricated after the engineering model was studied were also the subject of a uniformity study over part of the area of the Spectralon panels at the 442 nm wavelength. The analysis indicated that the panel uniformity satisfies the 0.5% criterion indicating improved panel preparation. However, the off specular peak in the forward scattering direction is essentially unchanged with the cross-over point at approximately 37.

Sua Pan surface bidirectional reflectance: a validation experiment of the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) during SAFARI 2000

The Southern Africa Regional Science Initiative (SAFARI 2000) dray deason campaign was carried out during August and September 2000 at the peak of biomass burning. The intensive ground-based and airborne measurements in this campaign provided a unique opportunity to validate space sensors, such as the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR), onboard NASA's EOS Terra platform.

MISR Camera Geometry Model (MISANCGM_V2)

The CGM dataset is used to describe pointing geometry of the nine MISR cameras. It consists of a set of parameters used in a mathematical expression that gives the pointing direction of an arbitrary pixel in the spacecraft attitude frame of reference.
