Connector acts as quick coupling in coaxial cable application

Quick-coupling connector whose inner shells are threaded to the cable ends and whose outer shells have tracks that register in channels machined in the inner shells are rotated 45 deg to effect a locking of the coupling. This connector faithfully reproduces excellent electrical characteristics no matter how frequently assembled and disassembled.

Brejcha, A. G., Jr.

Adjustable wrench for electronic connectors

Standard crescent wrench has been modified to provide a means whereby one adjustable tool can be used with all sizes of electronic connectors. The machined wrench jaws provide lugs for engaging the standard size slots on the different connectors.

Johnson, W. C.

Breakaway electrical connector

One-shot, breakaway multiwire cable connector is fabricated by using a number of small-diameter interconnecting wires, each of which, differing incrementally in length, is welded to neighboring pin and cable terminations. This design eliminates frictional binding and provides highly reliable cable interconnections until the connector is disengaged.

Katzin, L.

An electrical connector pin protector

Spring loaded insert protects electrical connector pins from being bent due to improper mating, or probing the pins with a screwdriver. This device modifies existing electrical connectors using only springs and retaining pins.

Mc Quillen, R. B.

Flat conductor cable connector with contact separation seal

Cable connector is developed in which each pair of contact elements is isolated by plastic cells and the mating interface is sealed by an elastic gasket. So insulated, the connector may be operated under high vacuum conditions at voltages up to 600 V ac without electrical leakage or intercontact ionization.

Angele, W.

X-connectors for tubing - Feasibility study

Connector tests, including 70 deg F leakage and vibration, proof pressure, burst pressure, tensility, thermal shock, high and low temperature leakage, and simultaneous high temperature vibration and leakage, prove feasibility of lightweight 0.5-in. X-connectors for 4500-lb/sq in. service pressures.

Bragg, K.

Connector locking device

Slidable spring-loaded locking device eliminates need for safety wiring. Locking device is placed between the connector plug and connector receptacle. The threaded plug cannot vibrate loose because the insert is wedged into slots formed on the outer diameter of the receptacle.

Rabb, L. W.

Clocking connector replaces adapter cables

Single cable using simplified, versatile clocking connector satisfies clocking variations that previously required many cables. Connector consists of specially fabricated grommet follower dial housing, dial assembly, and modified insert.

Arriola, S.

Investigation of gold embrittlement in connector solder joints

An investigation was performed to determine to what extent typical flight connector solder joints may be embrittled by the presence of gold. In addition to mapping of gold content in connector solder joints by an electron microprobe analyzer, metallographic examinations and mechanical tests (thermal shock, vibration, impact and tensile strength) were also conducted. A description of the specimens and tests, a discussion of the data, and some conclusions are presented.

Lane, F. L.

A proposed adjustable RF cable connector

In system that requires negligible loss, it may be necessary to adjust cable length to exact multiple of transmitted wavelength. Adjustable cable connector saves time and cost by eliminating need to add to or cut from cable. Device was especially designed for use with high frequencies. For particular application, connector of suitable dimensions should be used.

Stringer, E. J.

MSFC connector development

NASA flat conductor cable connectors with individually sealed contacts are described. Descriptions of the design, main features, contact spring, connector electrical data, dimensions and weight, FCC termination, and keying system for plug and receptacle are included.

Angele, W.

Connector interchangeability

The application is discussed of the general rules of ANSI Y14.5 in designing connectors for interchangeability, and lowering costs. The general rules are applied to actural connector designs, and existing specifications are identified that (1) reject better quality products than those accepted, (2) accept products which should be rejected, and (3) impose unnecessary, nonfunctional costly requirements.

Berilla, T.

Cables and connectors: A compilation

A compilation is presented that reflects the uses, adaptation, and maintenance plus service, that are innovations derived from problem solutions in the space R and D programs, both in house and by NASA and AEC contractors. Data cover: (1) technology revelant to the employment of flat conductor cables and their adaptation to and within conventional systems, (2) connectors and various adaptations, and (3) maintenance and service technology, and shop hints useful in the installation and care of cables and connectors.

Cables and connectors: A compilation

A technological compilation on devices and techniques for various types of electrical cables and connections is presented. Data are reported under three sections: flat conductor cable technology, newly developed electrical connectors, and miscellaneous articles and information on cables and connector techniques.

Multiple-layer printed-wiring trace connector

Nickel-plated spring-steel foil connector is hollow pin, with lengthwise slit, that is inserted into improperly plated-through holes. Edges of connector make positive contact with copper pads within hole.
