In this work, we report a new approach for forming ion depletion zones (IDZs) using intercalation reactions at an electrochemically controlled Prussian blue (PB) film. The experiments described here were performed using a microfluidic device, wherein a charged fluorophore in solution was used as a proxy to monitor IDZ formation. In the presence of K + , intercalation reactions proceed readily to form an IDZ, and thus enrich the fluorophore up to 37-fold. In the presence of the larger hydrated Li + or tetrabutylammonium (TBA + ) ions, however, ion intercalation proceeded less quickly than with K + . Slower ion intercalation resulted in a weaker IDZ and correspondingly lower enrichment factors of eight- and six-fold, respectively. These results are significant because they show that PB intercalation reactions selectively form an IDZ. Accordingly, we anticipate that these findings will lead to a better understanding and further interesting applications of intercalation materials like PB for efficient and selective enrichment and separations.

Immersive analytics (IA) leverages virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality to transform how users interact with complex datasets across domains such as science, industry, and education. These immersive technologies offer spatial and multimodal environments that foster intuitive exploration, but they also introduce challenges related to cognitive load, interface design, and system performance. Here, this article presents a comprehensive review of visualization techniques, interaction models, and multimodal inputs utilized in IA. Drawing on case studies in scientific visualization, industrial training, and educational communication, we examine both the potential and limitations of current systems. Finally, we propose future research directions, focusing on real‐time collaboration, adaptive user interfaces, and scalable data exploration strategies to advance the field.

At DIII-D, a slot divertor concept, called small-angle-slot (SAS), is under development, aiming to enable detachment at relatively low plasma edge density. We report on simulations using the SOLPS-ITER two-dimensional edge code to examine the performance of conceptual “SAS 2” slot configurations. The focus of the analysis is on E × B drift effects on upstream density at detachment (UDD), with detachment marked by electron temperature T e ≤ 3 eV at the outer strike point (OSP). With toroidal field such that radial E × B drift carries particles from the OSP towards the private flux region (PFR), placing the OSP near the inner slot wall gives ≈20% lower UDD than having the OSP near the outer wall. The inner wall effectively traps the radial E × B drift flux, resulting in low T e and associated radial electric field in the PFR, and thus small losses from the slot to the inner target via poloidal E × B drift flux. With toroidal field reversed such that radial E × B drift is reversed, OSP placement near the inner wall gives ≈10% lower UDD than OSP placement near the outer wall. Although radial E × B flux is from the OSP towards the outer wall, this flux largely escapes the slot, raising the UDD. Finally, a change in the slot shaping is suggested with the goal of eliminating such E × B-driven particle losses from the slot.
Inspired by biological systems, supramolecular polymers have emerged over the past three decades as an important way to form functional structures with potential to tune the internal order and dynamics and to create materials with the potential for responsiveness, reconfigurability, and recyclability. We focus here on several recent examples of ordered supramolecular polymers with a significant extent of internal order that results in crystalline molecular packing, or with dynamics that allow them to undergo structural reconfiguration. These examples highlight the spectrum of molecular mobility that the noncovalently bound constituents can experience. Furthermore, these materials have found interesting functions in their interaction with chiral biological systems and in their ability to form materials with interesting optoelectronic and photocatalytic behavior.

Increasing cybercrime rates means identifying potential victims is critically important. Social discounting tasks show that individuals share less personally identifying information as social distance increases. However, the test–retest reliability and uniqueness of this measure is unclear. The current study assessed social discounting for personally identifying information (SDPII), delay discounting, risk taking, and personality at two measurement waves 30 days apart for 64 undergraduate students. Test–retest reliability was statistically significant for the SDPII and all other measures, replicating previous studies. SDPII rates were not significantly correlated with other measures during both measurement waves, showing discriminant validity. SDPII rates were lower than those reported in a previous study but were still well described by a hyperbolic discounting function, suggesting replicability across studies. Furthermore, the high test–retest reliability, uniqueness, and replicability of the SDPII suggests that it may quantitatively identify cybercrime victimization. Future research should test which measure or combination of measures can accurately predict scam and cybercrime victimization to inform data-based interventions.

Multibeam sonars can be used to detect and classify marine fauna under conditions when optical sensors are ineffective. In this work, we compare the detection and classification capabilities of two multibeam sonars with different operating frequencies, the Tritech Gemini 720is (720 kHz) and the Teledyne BlueView M900-2250 (2250 kHz). The two sonars were deployed with overlapping swaths in a narrow tidal channel with peak currents of approximately 2 m/s where seals, schools of fish, and diving birds were intermittently present. In comparing data concurrently acquired by both sonars, we observe differences in the appearance of detected targets and detection capabilities. The detected target tracks are classified using a random forest model as either individual biological targets (flora and fauna, including fish, diving birds, seals, and plant matter), fish schools, or nonbiological targets (including entrained air and sonar artifacts). Despite the observed differences in detection capabilities for the two sonars, automatic classification distinguishes between target classes with precision and recall above 0.7 and 0.9, respectively. Furthermore, these results suggest that while similar methodologies can be used for data analysis, some outcomes from environmental studies using multibeam sonars may be instrument-specific.
