The objective of the Delivery Environments (DE) Testbeds to Reduce Uncertainty in Simulations and Tests (TRUST) project is to quantify and help increase confidence in specific areas of computational and experimental capabilities that are applicable to the development, on-target assessment, and qualification of current and future delivery environments. More complete quantification of confidence in experimental and computational capabilities and the sufficient increase of confidence in those capabilities is critical to improving weapons engineering design, qualification, and assessment efforts that are critical to the current and future stockpile. Under the TRUST work package, engineers use and provide feedback on analysis tools and experimental results and create databases for efficient and responsive engineering which are currently under development.

Fluorescence properties of a molecule can be used to study the structural and functional nature of biological processes. Physical properties, including fluorescence lifetime, emission spectrum, emission polarization, and others, help researchers probe a molecule, produce desired effects, and infer causes and consequences. Correlative imaging techniques such as hyperdimensional imaging microscopy (HDIM) combine the physical properties and biochemical states of a fluorophore. Here we present a fiber-based imaging system that can generate hyper-dimensional contrast by combining multiple fluorescence properties into a single fluorescence lifetime decay curve. Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) with controlled excitation polarization and temporally dispersed emission can generate a spectrally coded, polarization-filtered lifetime distribution for a pixel. This HDIM scheme generates a better contrast between different molecules than that from individual techniques. This setup uses only a single detector and is simpler to implement, modular, cost-efficient, and adaptable to any existing FLIM microscope. We present higher contrast data from Arabidopsis thaliana epidermal cells based on intrinsic anthocyanin emission properties under multiphoton excitation. This work lays the foundation for an alternative hyperdimensional imaging system and demonstrates that contrast-based imaging is useful to study cellular heterogeneity in biological samples.

Spectrographs for measuring hydrogen H beta line spectral shape and determining electron density of transient plasma
Switch automatically crosspatches optical signals with little loss. Device is furnished with local control and remote control. Local control can be manual from control panel or by computer data bus. In remote control, switch is slaved to remote manual panel computer data bus.
The appendices for the cross impact methodology are presented. These include: user's guide, telecommunication events, cross impacts, projection of historical trends, and projection of trends in satellite communications.
Field-repair technique fuses glass fibers in flammable environment. Apparatus consists of v-groove vacuum chucks on manipulators, high-voltage dc power supply and tungsten electrodes, microscope to observe joint alignment and fusion, means of test transmission through joint. Apparatus is enclosed in gas tight bos filled with inert gas during fusion. About 2 feet of fiber end are necessary for splicing.
An assessment and determination of technology requirements for developing a demonstration model to evaluate feasibility of practical cryogenic liquid level, pressure, and temperature sensors is presented. The construction of a demonstration model to measure characteristics of the selected sensor and to develop test procedures are discussed as well as the development of an appropriate electronic subsystem to operate the sensors.
The geometric effect and material stress effects are included. Calculations are shown that put an upper limit on the expected phase shift in single mode fibers. The fractional change in propagation constant is presented. Moding effects in multimode fibers cause extraneous phase shifts of unusually high magnitude. This does not occur in single mode fibers, rendering them very insensitive to bending with a theoretical limit given by the above relation.

The major thrust was to develop a T coupler with very low (0.1 0.2dB) in-line loss. This is essential to any multiaccess bus structure where the word multi implies fifteen or more nodes on the bus, and it is tacitly assumed to be a passive bus. (Reliability considerations tend to exclude the use of active nodes - repeater nodes.)
