TAUOLA update for decay channels with e + e – pairs in the final state
With the arrival of high luminosity B-factories like the Belle II experiment, τ decay measurements have become more precise than ever, allowing rarer processes to be explored, and finer details of τ decays to be studied. These are important to understand the spectrum of intermediate particles produced in τ decays. Therefore Monte Carlo generators, like the TAUOLA program, have to facilitate precision analysis as well as confront new models that constantly emerge with the availability of high statistics experimental data. New decay channels and models may lead to large variation of matrix elements size within the available phase space, as in the case when e + e - pairs are present in final state. It requires appropriate presampler of the phase space generator and a proper documentation to help users introduce their own models. While releasing a new update, it is important for the TAUOLA Monte Carlo library to maintain the general structure of the previous versions to preserve backward compatibility. The aim is to minimize changes from the user perspective. Finally, this paper presents a demonstration of new models implementation facilitated by the current update.
FITEVT: A FORTRAN program for arrival-time analysis of nuclear-decay events
FITEVT is a FORTRAN program designed to analyze recorded arrival times of nuclear-decay events affected by dead-time. Here, the primary goal of the program is precise and accurate determination of half-lives. Its method involves imposition of a known sufficiently long extending dead-time to the recorded event sequence, so that the original dead-time effects are completely obliterated and the remaining live-times of the survived events are known exactly. Upon completion of the analysis, the arrival-time spectrum and the live-time spectrum are predicted and compared to those constructed from the survived events.
MSTor 2023 : A new version of the computer code for multistructural torsional anharmonicity, now with automatic torsional identification using redundant internal coordinates
The MSTor program is a computer program for calculating partition functions and thermodynamic functions of complex gas-phase molecules with multiple torsions; the multi-structural approximation with torsional anharmonicity (MS-T) can be used based on either a coupled torsional potential or an uncoupled torsional potential. The program can also carry out calculations in the multiple-structure local harmonic (MS-LH) approximation or multi-structural local quasiharmonic (MS-LQ) approximation or by the dual-level MS-T method. Furthermore, the program package includes eight utility codes that can be used as stand-alone programs to help the user to generate the input files for the code or to generate comparison results. The 2023 version of MSTor includes a new capability, namely automatic identification of torsional modes with redundant internal coordinates.

Nyström type exponential integrators for strongly magnetized charged particle dynamics
Solving for charged particle motion in electromagnetic fields (i.e. the particle pushing problem) is a computationally intensive component of particle-in-cell (PIC) methods for plasma physics simulations. This task is especially challenging when the plasma is strongly magnetized due numerical stiffness arising from the wide range of time scales between highly oscillatory gyromotion and long term macroscopic behavior. A promising approach to solve these problems is by a class of methods known as exponential integrators that can solve linear problems exactly and are A-stable. This work extends the standard exponential integration framework to derive Nyström-type exponential integrators that integrates the Newtonian equations of motion as a second-order differential equation directly. In particular, we derive second-order and third-order Nyström-type exponential integrators for strongly magnetized particle pushing problems. Numerical experiments show that the Nyström-type exponential integrators exhibit significant improvement in computation speed over the standard exponential integrators.
Disjunctive linear separation conditions and mixed-integer formulations for aircraft conflict resolution
In this paper, we address the aircraft conflict resolution problem in air traffic control. We introduce new mixed-integer programming formulations for aircraft conflict resolution with speed, heading and altitude control which are based on disjunctive linear separation conditions. We first examine the two-dimensional aircraft conflict resolution problem with speed and heading control represented as continuous decision variables. We show that the proposed disjunctive linear separation conditions are equivalent to the classical nonlinear conditions for aircraft separation. Further, we characterise conflict-free trajectories based on aircraft velocity bounds and propose a simple pre-processing algorithm to identify aircraft pairs which are either always conflict-free, or which cannot be separated using speed and heading control only. We then incorporate altitude control and propose a lexicographic optimisation formulation that aims to minimise the number of flight level changes before resolving outstanding conflicts via two-dimensional velocity control. The proposed mixed-integer programming formulations are nonconvex, and we propose convex relaxations, decomposition methods and constraint generation algorithms to solve the two-dimensional and lexicographic optimisation formulations to guaranteed optimality. Numerical experiments on four types of conflict resolution benchmarking instances are conducted to test the performance of the proposed mixed-integer formulations. Further, the proposed method is compared against two benchmarks based on state-of-the-art approaches for the aircraft conflict resolution problem. Our numerical results show that the proposed method largely outperforms both benchmarks in terms of runtime and is able to solve significantly more instances to global optimality.
