Techniques for operating an atomic force microscope, the atomic force microscope comprising a cantilever and configured to image a surface of a sample using a probe tip coupled to the cantilever, the techniques comprising using a controller to perform: obtaining, based on at least one intrinsic parameter of the cantilever, a first quality factor and a first free oscillation amplitude, wherein the cantilever exhibits only one stable oscillation state when oscillating at the first free oscillation amplitude and operating at the first quality factor; and controlling the cantilever to exhibit the only one stable oscillation state by controlling the cantilever to oscillate at a fixed frequency at or near a resonance frequency of the cantilever, oscillate at the first free oscillation amplitude, and operate at the first quality factor.
A pyrolytic graphite (PG) substrate and laser diode package includes a substrate body having a PG crystalline structure with a basal plane oriented at a pre-determined orientation angle as measured from a longitudinal axis of a heat generating material, such as a laser diode, mounted on a surface of the PG substrate, so that a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of the PG substrate is substantially matched with a CTE of the material.

An industrial asset may have a plurality of monitoring nodes, each monitoring node generating a series of monitoring node values over time representing current operation of the industrial asset. An abnormality detection computer may determine that an abnormal monitoring node is currently being attacked or experiencing a fault. An autonomous, resilient estimator may continuously execute an adaptive learning process to create or update virtual sensor models for that monitoring node. Responsive to an indication that a monitoring node is currently being attacked or experiencing a fault, a level of neutralization may be automatically determined. The autonomous, resilient estimator may then be dynamically reconfigured to estimate a series of virtual node values based on information from normal monitoring nodes, appropriate virtual sensor models, and the determined level of neutralization. The series of monitoring node values from the abnormal monitoring node or nodes may then be replaced with the virtual node values.
In a general aspect, a laser system includes a laser and a frequency comb generator system. The laser is configured to generate a laser signal, and the frequency comb generator system is configured to generate a frequency comb based on the laser signal. The frequency comb includes frequency comb signals at respective comb frequencies. The laser system also includes a frequency comb dispersion system configured to spatially separate the frequency comb signals onto respective optical channels of the frequency comb dispersion system. The laser system additionally includes a frequency selector system configured to generate a selected frequency signal from the frequency comb signals after separation. The selected frequency signal includes a target separated frequency comb signal. The laser system also includes a frequency shifter configured to alter the selected frequency signal toward a target output frequency of the laser system.
