High frequency medium voltage drive system for high speed machine applications

In one aspect, a medium voltage power converter includes a plurality of slices each having: a transformer including a plurality of primary windings to couple to a utility source of input power and a plurality of secondary windings; and a plurality of power cubes coupled to the plurality of secondary windings, each of the plurality of power cubes comprising a low frequency front end stage, a DC link, and a high frequency silicon carbide (SiC) inverter stage to couple to a high frequency load or to a high speed machine.

High-Fidelity Modeling of Curbside Driving Behavior in SUMO: Preprint

Recent advances in mobility technologies have considerably increased the need for curbside use and congestion at curb-lanes. At airports and in dense urban centers, the growing adoption of Transportation Network Companies (TNCs), such as Uber and Lyft, has led to an increase in curbside traffic due to the reduction in the use public transit and other shared modes. In dense city areas, the curbside demand and congestion were further augmented by the growing use of e-commerce, which requires home-delivery of goods. To model vehicles' curbside interactions realistically, there is a need for high-fidelity simulation models that can represent the complex interplay of vehicles as they complete pick-up or drop-off trips. Vehicles' curbside behaviors are usually not modeled with high-fidelity in microscopic simulators such Simulation of Urban of Mobility (SUMO). This paper presents such a high-resolution model for vehicle curbside behavior in SUMO, using SUMO's Traci interface. Simulations results demonstrate that the improved curbside behavior captures vehicles' curbside maneuvering more accurately than the default SUMO curbside model, and increases the curbside utilization and capacity.

Cutting-Edge Operations Concepts: Intelligent Infrastructure, Cooperative Driving, Signal Control, and Curbside Management

The objective of this breakout session at the NREL Mobility workshop was to examine emerging traffic operations concepts built on key detection technology such as radars, lidars, and imaging recognition - and identify challenges and paths forward to integrate into our current roadway system. The key objective were to identify the opportunities for intelligent infrastructure to support near-term safety, equity, energy, and congestion mitigation goals, while supporting longer term connected-automated vehicle objectives. In the plenary session, Eric Raamot, from the USDOT Highly Automated Safety Systems Office challenged the participants to think broadly about the roll of standards and reference architecture to provide both an accelerated rollout of intelligent infrastructure, but also a repeatable and supportable framework upon which many infrastructure owners and operators (IOOs) could utilize for their implementation purposes.

Intelligent driving passive pedal control

A method for assignment of vehicle control includes receiving route data indicating a route between a starting location of a vehicle and a destination location, and determining an optimal vehicle configuration for the route based on a target vehicle speed and a hybrid torque split. The method further includes receiving a driver requested torque value and determining a passive pedal torque value based on the route data and vehicle powertrain data. The method further includes selectively assigning control of the vehicle to a vehicle system or to a driver of the vehicle based on the driver requested torque value and the passive pedal torque value.
