Regional Paleoenvironments Recorded in Sedimentary Rocks of the Western Fan-Delta, Jezero Crater, Mars.

The Mars 2020 Perseverance rover science team recently completed an investigation of the fan-delta sedimentary sequence [1] and has begun exploration of the crater margin. High resolution chemical, mineralogical, and morphological observations collected with the rover instrument payload provide powerful constraints on rock origins, contextualizing the suite of high-value samples collected as part of the Mars Sample Return campaign.

$|\Delta \mathcal{B}| =2$: A State of the Field, and Looking Forward--A brief status report of theoretical and experimental physics opportunities

The origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry apparently obligates the laws of physics to include some mechanism of baryon number ($\mathcal{B}$) violation. Searches for interactions violating $\mathcal{B}$ and baryon-minus-lepton number $\mathcal{(B-L)}$ represent a rich and underutilized opportunity. These are complementary to the existing, broad program of searches for $\mathcal{L}$-violating modes such as neutrinoless double $\beta$-decay which could provide deeper understandings of the plausibility of leptogenesis, or $\mathcal{B}$-violating, $\mathcal{(B-L)}$-conserving processes such as proton decay. In particular, a low-scale, post-sphaleron violation mechanism of $\mathcal{(B-L)}$ could provide a \textit{testable} form of baryogenesis. Though theoretically compelling, searches for such $\mathcal{(B-L)}$-violating processes like $\Delta\mathcal{B}=2$ dinucleon decay and $n\rightarrow\bar{n}$ remain relatively underexplored experimentally compared to other rare processes. By taking advantage of upcoming facilities such as the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment and the European Spallation Source, this gap can be addressed with new intranuclear and free searches for neutron transformations with very high sensitivity, perhaps greater than three orders of magnitude higher than previous experimental searches. This proceedings reports on recent theoretical and experimental advances and sensitivities of next-generation searches for neutron transformations were detailed as part of the Amherst Center for Fundamental Interactions Workshop, "Theoretical Innovations for Future Experiments Regarding Baryon Number Violation," directly coordinated with the Rare Processes and Precision Measurements Frontier.

Linear delta systems with additional degrees of freedom and related methods

A linear delta system includes a frame, rails secured to the frame, linear actuators, each linear actuator coupled to a respective rail and configured to translate along a longitudinal length of the respective rail, pairs of parallel rods each operably coupled to a respective linear actuator, a platform coupled to the pairs of parallel rods, structure configured to movable couple an object to the platform; and at least one degree of freedom imparting assembly including a profiled rod extending in a direction parallel to the rails and a drive unit configured to rotate the profiled rod, wherein the at least one degree of freedom imparting assembly is configured to impart a degree of freedom to the object.

Innovations in Delta Differential One-Way Range: from Viking to Mars Science Laboratory

The Deep Space Network has provided the capability for very-long-baseline interferometry measurements in support of spacecraft navigation since the late 1970s. Both system implementation and the importance of such measurements to flight projects have evolved significantly over the past three decades. Innovations introduced through research and development programs have led to much better performance. This paper provides an overview of the development and use of interferometric tracking techniques in the DSN starting with the Viking era and continuing with a description of the current system and its planned use to support Mars Science Laboratory.
