Evaluation of materials in entry heating simulation

The effects of several environmental parameters on the behavior of ablation materials have been examined. Practically all the entry heating parameters such as enthalpy, pressure, heating rate, aerodynamic shear, and so forth, affect material performance. However, the significance of the effects depends to a large extent upon the type of material. Inasmuch as it is rarely possible to simulate several environment effects simultaneously, the primary inputs must be determined and the test simulation must account for the effects of these inputs. The particular materials of concern must be characterized by test and analysis to determine which of the many environmental inputs are the most significant.

Study of thermal effects on nickel-cadmium batteries

Isothermal continuous flow calorimeter is designed to test a nickel-cadmium battery under numerous orbital conditions. This sensitive calorimeter collects cell data such as oxygen pressure and rate of heat generation, and calculates changes in enthalpy.

Thermodynamic analysis of dilute ternary systems. 1. The Ag-Au-Sn system

The heats of solution of silver and gold in dilute Ag-Au-Sn alloys have been determined as a function of alloy composition using liquid metal solution calorimetry. From the values obtained, the various enthalpy interaction parameters in the liquid solutions have been calculated. The results are interpreted in terms of the probably bonding changes taking place between silver, gold and tin atoms.
