IR Properties of Galactic Cirrus Near The Polar Caps

We present a systematic study of the infrared properties of the high galactic latitude sky, by examining two large sections of the IRAS Sky Survey, which cover galactic latitudes from b=20 to b=90, and b=-20 to b=-90, at a reduced resolution of 7.5'/pixel. The IRAS Sky Survey Atlas (ISSA) plates are used to determine the variation in color R(12,25), R(25,60)and R(60,100) of clouds with spatial scales of 1-5 degrees, as a funtion of galactic latitude, and also a function of the brightness of the emitting material.

The Milky Way, the Local Group & the IR Tully-Fisher Diagram

Using the near infrared fluxes of local group galaxies derived from Cosmic Background Explorer/Diffuse Infrared Background Experiment band maps and published Cepheid distances, we construct Tully-Fisher diagrams for the Local Group.

(abstract) Spatial Power Spectral Measurements of IR Cirrus

We have used recently released IRAS Sky Survey Atlas (ISSA) image data to investigate the surface brightness distribution of selected regions of infrared cirrus using power spectral analysis techniques.

RTF+SpeX Near-IR Images and Spectra of the Moon Pre-impact and at Impact of SMART-1

We present SpeX 0.8-2.5 micron spectra and Br-gamma or J H or K-band images of the Moon on 2006 July 10 UT, 2006 Sep 1 UT, and 2006 Sep 3 UT. The first two dates are data taken in preparation (near Full Moon and 1 st quarter Moon) for observing the impact of ESA's SMART-1 Lunar satellite on 2006 Sep 3 UT. We hope to be presenting images (about 1 arc minute by 1 arc minute), and low resolution (Prism mode) spectra of the SMART-1 impact to be taken with the 60 arc second long slit.

Characterization of Lubricants on Ball Bearings by FT-IR Using an Integrating Sphere

Fourier Transform-Infrared reflectance microspectroscopy has been used extensively for the examination of coatings on nonplanar surfaces such as ball bearings. While this technique offers considerable advantages, practical application has many drawbacks, some of which are easily overcome by the use of integrating sphere technology. This paper describes the use of an integrating sphere for the quantification of thin layers of lubricant on the surface of ball bearings and the parameters which require optimization in order to obtain reliable data. Several applications of the technique are discussed including determination of lubricant load on 12.7 mm steel ball bearings and the examination of degraded lubricant on post mortem specimens.
