Communication device for implementing selective encryption in a software defined network

The present disclosure pertains to systems and methods for selectively encrypting data flows within a software defined network (SDN). In one embodiment, a communication device may be configured to receive a plurality of unencrypted data packets. The communication device may receive from an SDN controller a criterion used to identify at least one of the unencrypted data flows to be encrypted. Based on the criterion, an encryption subsystem may generate an encrypted data flow the unencrypted data packets based on an encryption key. In some embodiments, the encryption system may parse the packets and encrypt the data payloads without encrypting the routing information associated with the packet. In other embodiments, the encryption subsystem may be configured to encapsulate and encrypt the entire unencrypted data packet. In some embodiments, the encryption subsystem may further be configured to authenticate a sending device and/or to verify the integrity of a message.

Implementing Zero Energy Design with the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon

The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon® Design Challenge is a collegiate competition that challenges student teams to design high performance buildings that push the boundaries of the industry. In the 2020 competition, DOE is piloting Design Partners, a low-risk opportunity for builders and building owners to harness student innovation and explore zero energy design for current or upcoming projects. Design Partners provide a student team of architects and engineers with project requirements. By the end of the Challenge, Design Partners receive a zero energy alternative and cost estimate for their project. The collaboration allows Design Partners to incorporate innovative concepts such as grid-interactivity, resilience, and low embodied carbon in a low-risk environment and provides the future generation of engineers and architects with invaluable experience designing a building for a client under real-world circumstances. Attendees will leave understanding the “perfect storm” of policy, technology, health, and economic trends that make zero energy buildings desirable and feasible and the value of the U.S. DOE Solar Decathlon to industry. They will also get a sneak peek at innovative solutions 2020 Design Partner pilot projects are bringing to the building industry and how becoming a Design Partner in 2021 could benefit their organization.

Securing against errors in an error correcting code (ECC) implemented in an automotive system

In general, data is susceptible to errors caused by faults in hardware (i.e. permanent faults), such as faults in the functioning of memory and/or communication channels. To detect errors in data caused by hardware faults, the error correcting code (ECC) was introduced, which essentially provides a sort of redundancy to the data that can be used to validate that the data is free from errors caused by hardware faults. In some cases, the ECC can also be used to correct errors in the data caused by hardware faults. However, the ECC itself is also susceptible to errors, including specifically errors caused by faults in the ECC logic. A method, computer readable medium, and system are thus provided for securing against errors in an ECC.

The Rucio File Catalog in DIRAC implemented for Belle II

DIRAC and Rucio are two standard pieces of software widely used in the HEP domain. DIRAC provides Workload and Data Management function- alities, among other things, while Rucio is a dedicated, advanced Distributed Data Management system. Many communities that already use DIRAC have expressed their interest in using DIRAC for Workload Management in combi- nation with Rucio for Data Management. In this paper, we describe the integra- tion of the Rucio File Catalog into DIRAC that was initially developed for the Belle II collaboration.
