Handbook for designing electronic filters
Handbook for performance evaluation and cost effectiveness of extravehicular functions in manned space flight
Technologies for EVA and remote manipulation systems - handbook for systems designers
Six new handbooks on the fundamentals of nondestructive test techniques supply recent information for instructing inspectors and technicians, and can be used effectively in shops or laboratories, technical schools, or home study programs.
Personnel handbook states criteria for test methods including radiation, ultrasonics, eddy current, liquid penetrant, and magnetic particle. Subject categories are thoroughly defined and substructured.
Weight estimating and forecasting of manned space systems during conceptual design - handbook
Details of astronaut zero gravity performance evaluation program including publication of handbook, fabrication of prototype hardware, and worksite performance data
Handbook describes design processes, presents design considerations and techniques, gives tutorial material on implementation and methodology, shows design aids, illustrates use of design aids and application samples, and identifies general practices to be adhered to or avoided.
This Project Plan for the Small Astronomy Satellite (SAS-D) is Goddard Space Flight Center's plan for accomplishing the project. It is issued in compliance with NASA Handbook NHB 7121.2 and NMI 7120.1, dated May 4, 1970, Subject: Approval and Implementation of Office of Space Science and Applications (OSSA) Research and Development (R&D) Projects. The Project Plan, as approved by GSFC executive management and NASA Headquarters, is the project manager's charter and defines his specific plan of action. System definition phase activities of the SAS-D Project will be a continuation of the analytical work that established the overall feasibility of the project. The system concept derived from that analytical work is defined in the Phase A (Mission Definition Phase) technical report. System definition phase activities will include detailed engineering analysis and preliminary breadboarding necessary to establish a single project approach from the feasible approaches. This document will be revised at the end of the system definition phase to provide greater detail on acquisition phase planning and to specify a specific system design.
The criteria and requirements governing the selection and use of nonmetallic materials in manned spacecraft to control potential fire hazards are reviewed. The development of flammability requirements is discussed and traced through the historical evolution. Events that dictated the changes that have taken place are discussed. The current nonmetallic material requirements are presented. Significant features of a nonmetallic materials handbook are included.
The techniques used to preserve biological materials are documented and summarized. The report is presented in a handbook format that categorizes the most important preservation techniques available, and includes a representative sampling of the thousands of applications of these techniques to biological materials and organisms. Details of the information coverage and method of approach are outlined. Data are given in tabular form, and an index and extensive bibliography are included.
A handbook is presented which was designed to accompany an oral presentation on the effects of radiation on the outer planets grand tour (OPGT). A summary of OPGT radiation environments expected from natural sources and the radioisotope thermoelectric generators and basic radiation effects and processes are reviewed, and ionization and displacement effects are examined. The presentation summarizes the effects of radiation on miscellaneous spacecraft materials and devices. The annealing and hardening of electronics are described. Special emphasis is placed on microcircuits. Mathematical modeling of circuits affected by radiation and radiation environmental testing are discussed. A review of means of evaluating the performance and correcting failures of irradiated devices is also presented.
A handbook is presented which delineates the principles of the new low-cost design methodology for designers of unmanned payloads to be carried by the space shuttle. The basic relationships between payload designs and program cost effects are discussed, and some concepts for designing low-cost payloads and implementing low-cost programs are given. The data are summarized from a payloads effects study of three unmanned earth satellites (OAO, a syneq orbiter, and a small research satellite), and the earth satellite design is emphasized. Brief summaries of space shuttle and space tug performance, environmental, and interface data pertinent to low-cost payload concepts are included.
Design handbook contains data and illustrations concerned with commercial and Government flat-conductor-cable connecting and terminating hardware. Material was obtained from a NASA-sponsored industry-wide survey of approximately 150 companies and Government agencies.
Investigation was made to optimize selection of insulation materials for reusable space vehicles which will be repeatedly operated over periods of up to ten years. Results of study are summarized in two reports. Volume I describes tests and significant findings. In Volume II, extensive test data obtained are organized in handbook form.
Handbook has been published to facilitate conversion to metric system. Conversion data makes it possible for transformer designers to obtain fast and close approximation of significant parameters. For greater convenience, derivations of some transformer and inductor parameters are also presented.
Handbook has been published which integrates results of 19 research programs involving welding of high-strength aluminum alloys. Book introduces metallurgy and properties of aluminum alloys by discussing commercial alloys and heat treatments. Several current welding processes are reviewed such as gas tungsten-arc welding and gas metal-arc welding.
Handbook was published on study which describes relative merits of two general-purpose, steroscopic display systems. Both systems are adaptable to most small data processing facilities and, with minimal hardware development, greatly enhance user ability to interact with computer and to interpret data output. Section also describes digital-to-analog converters designed for use with system.
