Particle Seeding System Upgrades in the NASA GRC 1 × 1 Supersonic Wind Tunnel

An effort to improve the particle-based velocity measurement capability in the NASA Glenn Research Center 1'x1' Supersonic Wind Tunnel has recently been undertaken. Modifications to the pressure vessel where the seed particles are generated and inserted into the wind tunnel's pressurized air supply were implemented to reduce residence time and thus agglomeration of particles in the seeding tank. The operation of the improved seeding system was evaluated and optimized using particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements across an isolated oblique shock wave in the facility test section. The PIV system using optimal seeding settings was also applied to make detailed measurements of the test section sidewall boundary layer height to inform model designs for future testing in this facility.

Upgrades, Early Results, and Status for V07 IMERG

- TMPA ended with December 2019 - the products are still available, but users are encouraged to move to IMERG - The GPM Version 07 release has been happening later than originally planned and (as usual) in stages - 1 December 2021: Combined had to shift to ”hybrid”: V07 Radar, but still running V06 algorithm - 1 December 2021: IMERG had to shift to “hybrid” Combined for Early, Late, but still running V06 algorithm; we chose to not use ”hybrid” for Final, so it stops with September 2021 - 1 May 2022: IMERG Early, Late Runs shift to V07 GPROF and Combined, but still running V06 algorithm - 1 February 2023: Expected start of V07 IMERG Final processing - 15 March 2023: Expected start of V07 IMERG Early, Late processing

FLASHFlux Working Group Status: Assessing FF NOAA-20 Products and Future Upgrades

The CERES Fast Longwave and SHortwave radiative Flux working provides low latency data products from the CERES measurements within about 5-6 days of real time. This presentation reviews progress made toward evaluating the current data products and shows some examples of users for the instantaneous and daily averaged data products. In this presentation the comparisons to surface surface measurements are made through June 2023. Also, we preview some new results for replacing current algorithms with neural net model trained on the new CERES CRS data products. Lastly, present update plans for the next 9 months.

The CERES Fast Longwave and SHortwave radiative Flux working provides low latency data products from the CERES measurements within about 5-6 days of real time. This presentation reviews progress made toward evaluating the current data products and shows some examples of users daily averaged data products. Since the last CERES Science Team meeting the FLASHFlux group has updated it's production to use the GEOS-IT reanalysis from the GMAO. In this presentation the comparisons to surface surface measurements are made through December 2023 constrasting old and new versions for the SSF and TISA products. Also, we provide an update on activities to replace the footprint fluxes and also update our current gridded global products with GEO observations. Lastly, present update plans for the next 6-9 months.
