JPL's Remote Interactive Visualization and Analysis System (RIVA) is described in detail.
Several algorithms were added to the Physical-space Statistical Analysis System (PSAS) from Goddard, which assimilates observational weather data by correcting for different levels of uncertainty about the data and different locations for mobile observation platforms. The new algorithms and use of the 512-node Intel Paragon allowed a hundred-fold decrease in processing time.
Optical fiber networks may one day offer potential capacities exceeding 10 terabits/sec. This paper describes present gigabit network techniques for distributed computing as illustrated by the CASA gigabit testbed, and then explores future all-optic network architectures that offer increased capacity, more optimized level of service for a given application, high fault tolerance, and dynamic reconfigurability.
This presentation shows the interaction of the interstellar wind and the solar wind. More specifically it shows the density contours.
In this paper, a number of concrete problems and the chosen solutions are described, based on the construction of a 5TB global Landsat 7 mosaic.
The main challenges of using the increasingly large repositories of remote imagery data can be summarized in one word: efficiency. In this paper, a number of concrete problems and the chosen solutions are described, based on the construction of a 5TB global Landsat 7 mosaic.
NASA's projects and missions push the bounds of what is possible. To support the agency's work, materials development must stay on the cutting edge in order to keep pace. Today, researchers at NASA Ames Research Center perform multiscale modeling to aid the development of new materials and provide insight into existing ones. Multiscale modeling enables researchers to determine micro- and macroscale properties by connecting computational methods ranging from the atomic level (density functional theory, molecular dynamics) to the macroscale (finite element method). The output of one level is passed on as input to the next level, creating a powerful predictive model.
