Theoretical simulation of solar spectra in the middle ultraviolet and visible for atmospheric trace constituent measurements

The data compiled during the study allowed a detailed examination of the attenuation of the solar radiance by the combined effect of the atmospheric trace gases and the SAGE filters. The case of the 0.44 microns channel is presented. The amounts of NO2, NO2, O3 and the airmass were chosen to closely simulate a low sun spectral scan from a 9 February 1977 balloon flight. The solar radiance outside the earth's atmosphere was determined from the AFGL Sacramento Peak Observatory spectral data tape degraded to 2.0A resolution and normalized to Thekaekara's absolute intensities. The spectral absorption coefficients used for NO2 and O3 were tabulated previously.

Electrical Characterization of Hughes HCMP 1853D and RCA CDP1853D N-bit, CMOS, 1-of-8 Decoder Microcircuits

Electrical characterization tests were performed on two different manufactured types of integrated circuits. The devices were subjected to functional and AC and DC parametric tests at ambient temperatures of -55 C, -20 C, 25 C, 85 C, and 125 C. The data were analyzed and tabulated to show the effect of operating conditions on performance and to indicate parameter deviations among devices in each group. Accuracy was given precedence over test time efficiency where practical, and tests were designed to measure worst case performance.

Catalog of far-ultraviolet objective-prism spectrophotometry: Skylab experiment S-019, ultraviolet steller astronomy

Ultraviolet stellar spectra in the wavelength region from 1300 to 5000 A (130 to 500) were photographed during the three manned Skylab missions using a 15 cm aperture objective-prism telescope. The prismatic dispersion varied from 58 A mm/1 at 1400 A to 1600 A mm/1 at 3000 A. Approximately 1000 spectra representing 500 stars were measured and reduced to observed fluxes. About 100 stars show absorption lines of Si IV, C IV, or C II. Numerous line features are also recorded in supergiant stars, shell stars, A and F stars, and Wolf-Rayet stars. Most of the stars in the catalog are of spectral class B, with a number of O and A type stars and a sampling of WC, WN, F and C type stars. Spectrophotometric results are tabulated for these 500 stars.

Surface pressure data on a series of analytic forebodies at Mach numbers from 1.70 to 4.50 and combined angles of attack and sideslip

Tabulated surface pressure data for a series of four forebodies which have analytically defined cross sections and which are based on a parabolic arc profile having a 20 deg half angle at the nose are presented without analysis. The first forebody has a circular cross section, and the second has a cross section which is an ellipse with an axis ratio of 2/1. The third has a cross section defined by a lobed analytic curve. The fourth forebody has cross sections which develop smoothly from circular at the pointed nose through the lobed analytic curve and back to circular at the aft end. The data generally cover angles of attack from -5 deg to 20 deg at angles of sideslip from 0 deg to 5 deg for Mach numbers of 1.70, 2.50, 3.95, and 4.50 at a constant Reynolds number.

Program documentation for the space environment test division post-test data reduction program (GNFLEX)

The Space Environment Test Division Post-Test Data Reduction Program processes data from test history tapes generated on the Flexible Data System in the Space Environment Simulation Laboratory at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration/Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. The program reads the tape's data base records to retrieve the item directory conversion file, the item capture file and the process link file to determine the active parameters. The desired parameter names are read in by lead cards after which the periodic data records are read to determine parameter data level changes. The data is considered to be compressed rather than full sample rate. Tabulations and/or a tape for generating plots may be output.

A general unified approach to modelling switching dc-to-dc converters in discontinuous conduction mode

A method for modelling switching converters in the discontinuous conduction mode is developed, whose starting point is the unified state-space representation, and whose end result is a complete linear circuit model which correctly represents all essential features, namely, the input, output, and transfer properties (static dc as well as dynamic ac small signal). While the method is generally applicable to any switching converter operating in the discontinuous conduction mode, it is extensively illustrated for the three common power stages (buck, boost, and buck-boost). The results for these converters are then easily tabulated owing to the fixed equivalent circuit topology of their canonical circuit model.

Ultrasonic analysis of bolt preloads

This paper covers an investigation into the feasibility of analyzing bolt preloads by ultrasonic techniques. Various techniques were evaluated and a pulse echo inteferometric method was selected for experimental testing. In agreement with theoretical predictions, the interferometer response was found to be linearly related to tensile stresses oriented parallel to the bolt axis. Under rather idealized conditions, bolt loads can be determined with errors of less than 1%. The ultimate operational accuracy depends on a number of variables, such as bolt dimensions and geometry, bolt temperature, uniformity of stresses, and bolt materials, but load analyses to within + or - 3% are readily achievable. Best results are obtained with the ultrasonic transducer contact coupled to a small flat area near the center of the bolt head. The transducer can be applied and measurements made without interfering with normal wrenching operations. Prototype instrumentation is described and calibration results are tabulated for numerous bolt sizes and materials.

Techniques for land use change detection using Landsat imagery

A variety of procedures were developed for the delineation of areas of land use change using Landsat Multispectral Scanner data and the generation of statistics revealing the nature of the changes involved (i.e., number of acres changed from rural to urban). Techniques of the Image Based Information System were utilized in all stages of the procedure, from logging the Landsat data and registering two frames of imagery, to extracting the changed areas and printing tabulations of land use change in acres. Two alternative methods of delineating land use change are presented while enumerating the steps of the entire process. The Houston, Texas urban area, and the Orlando, Florida urban area, are used as illustrative examples of various procedures.

Limb darkening 1945-3245 A for the quiet sun from Skylab data

Limb-darkening measurements of the quiet sun in the spectral range 1945-3245 A have been made using NRL's SO82B instrument on board Skylab. The spectral intensities have been averaged over 10 A wavelength bands, and coefficients for linear, quadratic, and logarithmic fits to the observed center-to-limb variations have been calculated and tabulated as a function of wavelength. The quadratic fits are found to represent the observations best, the observed and calculated values agreeing to better than plus or minus 15% on the average. Attention is drawn to the value of the results for ultraviolet photometry of eclipsing binaries.
