An apparatus for attaching vegetative propagules to a longline that may include a clip portion having a curved area sized to receive a stem of a vegetative propagule and having an opening to the curved area smaller than the curved area to secure the vegetative propagule in the curved area; a tapered barrel that is inserted into a longline; and a rigid connection by a tower between the clip portion and the tapered barrel. Also disclosed is a macroalgae farm including the apparatus for attaching vegetative propagules to a longline.

Embodiments of the disclosure include swellable smart gel sealants and methods of using smart gel sealants. In certain embodiments, the smart gel sealants reversibly swell when exposed to a certain trigger, such as temperature or pH. In specific embodiments, the smart gel is disposed within voids in a well and triggered to swell in order to seal the voids. One application of the smart gel sealant is to seal the casing of a well against the leakage of gas, such as H2S.
A system or method for thermal storage includes a recess or containment unit having a first storage layer and a second storage layer comprising a permeable filler material. An intermediate layer is disposed between the storage layers. A primary well traverses the layer in the recess. The primary well is in thermal communication with the first permeable filler material and the second permeable filler material. A heat source is provided for heating an inlet fluid. An input pump is in fluid communication with the primary well and the heat source. The primary well receives heated inlet fluid from the inlet pump and injects the fluid into the second layers. The heated inlet fluid transfers heat to the respective permeable filler material radially from the primary well toward an outer periphery of the thermocline recess.
Systems and methods for falling particle receivers are disclosed that include shield or deflector structures around the receiver aperture to reduce wind effects and/or heat losses from the falling particles. External and internal structures are disclosed that can be tailored to reduce particle, thermal, and radiative losses from within the cavity receiver due to external wind and the falling particles that are irradiated within the receiver. Structures of varying shapes, sizes, and composition (transparent, reflective) are described.
The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods to control particle mass flow rate in solar receivers and associated heat exchangers based on feedback from one or more temperatures of particles in the system.
Furthering our understanding of the prevalence and severity of issues that customers face when charging their electric vehicles (EVs) is crucial in order to improve the charging experience across the United States. This project utilizes web-scraping, machine leaning (ML), and natural language processing (NLP) techniques to analyze and categorize user-generated reviews. Selenium was used to build a data collection tool that can scrape vast amounts of user review data from the PlugShare website. Sentiment analysis was employed on this dataset in order to filter out negative reviews for further analysis. NLP techniques such as tokenization and word embedding were then used to convert user-written comments into a numerical format that a ML model can interpret. Multiple ML approaches are currently being explored in order to identify and categorize the charging issues being talked about in each review. Ultimately, the results from the ML model will be visualized and explained in a report on customer pain points to be delivered to the ChargeX Consortium, therefore revealing specific areas for improvement in the customer charging experience.
