NASA, commercial, medical, and defense applications such as Earth observation systems, astronomy, weather monitoring, thermal mapping, thermography, missile tracking, and night vision aids, etc. require high performance large format long wavelength infrared (LWIR) detector arrays in the range of 8-16 µm.
In this paper, we discuss the development of highly uniform longwavelength QWIPs for astronomical applications.

A symmetric $ϕ^4 − ϕ^2 |ϕ| − ϕ^2$ model has recently attracted attention due to its usefulness in studying tunable phase transitions. Here, we analyze the behavior of this model for the entire range of parameters and obtain its kink and pulse solutions. For completeness, we also present several periodic solutions of this model. Furthermore, we present a generalized symmetric $ϕ^{4n} − ϕ^{2n} |ϕ| − ϕ^2$ model where $n = 1, 2, 3, ...$ and obtain its kink and pulse solutions for arbitrary $n$.

We report on the direct measurement of hot electrons generated in the active region of blue light-emitting diodes grown by ammonia molecular beam epitaxy by electron emission spectroscopy. The external quantum efficiency of these devices is <1% and does not droop; thus, the efficiency losses from the intrinsic, interband, electron-electron-hole, or electron-hole-hole Auger should not be a significant source of hot carriers. Here, the detection of hot electrons in this case suggests that an alternate hot electron generating process is occurring within these devices, likely a trap-assisted Auger recombination process.
Significance Halide perovskites, especially layered perovskites, offer a number of advantages to creating bright and efficient light-emitting devices and other optoelectronic applications. The organic–inorganic hybrid layered perovskite features complex lattice dynamics due to the ionic character of the crystal and the softness arising from noncovalent bonds between molecular moieties and the inorganic network. Especially, the packing geometry of the organic barriers leads to a structural deformation of inorganic octahedral, which strongly affects the properties that are crucial for device applications. In this work, we use high-resolution resonant impulsive stimulated Raman spectroscopy of a variety of ligand substitutions in layered perovskites. We find the composition of organic ligands can substantially change the dephasing rate of optical phonons and their temperature dependence, due to varying degrees of anharmonicity in the lattice and dynamic structural disorder.

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory is developing a new imaging interferometer that has double the efficiency of conventional interferometers and only a fraction of the mass and volume. The project is being funded as part of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Photonic Wavelength And Spatial Signal Processing program (PWASSSP).
