Dynamic Replanning System

Artificial-intelligence computer program for planning automatically changes plan when conditions warrant. System uses planning software called SWITCH. Contains replanning input generator. Replanning done only for situations in which SWITCH has made plan but goals have changed. System assumes original knowledge base correct, which often is not the case. Future development aimed at compatibility with changing knowledge bases.

Dataset for Blueprinting Electrified Transit System Implementation

This dataset contains the figures and tabulated results generated from a system-level optimization study of transit fleet electrification planning. The dataset does not include executable modeling code required to reproduce the optimization. The dataset includes results for optimized charging infrastructure deployment by location and power level and service block assignments by fuel type, battery capacity selections, and distributed energy resource sizing. It also contains aggregated financial results, capital expenditures, operating cost summaries, net present cost comparisons across scenarios, and quantified air quality impacts. Results are structured to reflect multiple planning scenarios, including heuristic electrification plans, system-optimized configurations, and sensitivity cases with alternative objective weightings. The modeling was developed using publicly available General Transit Feed Specification data from Omnitrans and standardized modeling assumptions.

Second Target Station Instrument Systems Research and Development Plan

This document describes the research and development (R&D) plan for Second Target Station (STS) instruments and bunker. The R&D program at STS seeks to mitigate risk and develop new technologies that will enhance performance for deployment on the eight instruments that are part of the STS project. Currently, STS is actively developing six of the eight instruments. This document is expected to be revised as the R&D program progresses and activities begin on the remaining two instruments (VERDI and EXPANSE).

Plans for wind energy system simulation

A digital computer code and a special purpose hybrid computer, were introduced. The digital computer program, the Root Perturbation Method or RPM, is an implementation of the classic floquet procedure which circumvents numerical problems associated with the extraction of Floquet roots. The hybrid computer, the Wind Energy System Time domain simulator (WEST), yields real time loads and deformation information essential to design and system stability investigations.

Crustal dynamics project observing plan for highly mobile systems 1981 - 1986

Measurement of crustal motion in the western United States and other tectonically active regions makes use of fixed, movable and highly mobile satellite laser ranging and very long baseline interferometry systems. Measurement of the rotational dynamics of the Earth as well as regional deformation and plate motion are discussed.

IAC level "O" program development

The current status of the IAC development activity is summarized. The listed prototype software and documentation was delivered, and details were planned for development of the level 1 operational system. The planned end product IAC is required to support LSST design analysis and performance evaluation, with emphasis on the coupling of required technical disciplines. The long term IAC effectively provides two distinct features: a specific set of analysis modules (thermal, structural, controls, antenna radiation performance and instrument optical performance) that will function together with the IAC supporting software in an integrated and user friendly manner; and a general framework whereby new analysis modules can readily be incorporated into IAC or be allowed to communicate with it.

Space launch systems - Current United States plans and the next logical steps through 2000

The United States space transportation plans are discussed with emphasis on returning the Titan and the Shuttle to operational status. In particular, Shuttle enhancements via advanced solid rocket boosters and replacement of solid rocket boosters by liquid rocket boosters are examined. The Shuttle-C vehicle is then discussed as the next logical step that could provide a heavy launch capability in the early 1990s. The Shuttle-C will provide assured and flexible access to space for large Centaur-class payloads, for Space Station assembly, and for planetary missions.

System testing of a production Ada (trademark) project: The GRODY study

The use of the Ada language and design methodologies that utilize its features has a strong impact on all phases of the software development project lifecycle. At the National Aeronautics and Space Administration/Goddard Space Flight Center (NASA/GSFC), the Software Engineering Laboratory (SEL) conducted an experiment in parallel development of two flight dynamics systems in FORTRAN and Ada. The teams found some qualitative differences between the system test phases of the two projects. Although planning for system testing and conducting of tests were not generally affected by the use of Ada, the solving of problems found in system testing was generally facilitated by Ada constructs and design methodology. Most problems found in system testing were not due to difficulty with the language or methodology but to lack of experience with the application.

Redundancy in sensors, control and planning of a robotic system for space telerobotics

The analysis and development of a manipulator redundant in structure and sensor devices controlled by a distributed multiprocessor architecture are discussed. The goal has been the realization of a modular structure of the manipulator with evident aspects of flexibility and transportability. The distributed control structure, thanks to his modularity and flexibility could be integrated in the future into an operative structure aimed to space telerobotics. The architecture is applied to the 6 DOF manipulator Gilberto.
