Surface structure of Sn doped β-Ga 2 O 3 (010) p(1×1) studied by quantitative low energy electron diffraction

Here, we have studied the surface structure of a single crystal β-Ga 2 O 3 (010) using quantitative Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The XPS measurements show spectra typical of stoichiometric Ga 2 O 3 with a clean surface. LEED consistently shows a p(1x1) pattern, free of surface reconstruction. Quantitative LEED I(V) curves are acquired for 41 distinct diffraction spots. The experimental I(V) curves are compared to simulations over the first five layers. The best fits to the experimental LEED I(V) curves acquired at all diffraction spots are then used to calculate the interplanar relaxation and atomic rumpling. Significant atomic rumpling and interplanar relaxation are found over the first 5 atomic layers. As a result of rumpling a polarization of ~ 2 μC/cm 2 develops in the topmost surface layer. The structural results are in good agreement with previous density functional theory calculations and experimental X-ray photoelectron diffraction.

Fabrication of superconducting Nb 3 Sn film by Co-sputtering

High-efficiency SRF cavities are the key technology to construct cost-effective CW SRF accelerators. Improvements in the efficiency of SRF cavities are realized by using novel materials, such as niobium-tin. Advances in niobium-tin coatings on the inner surface of SRF cavities showed the potential for this material to increase the operating temperature of the SRF cavity to above 4 K, leading to significant reduction of the capital and operating cost of SRF accelerators. Among the techniques used to apply the niobium-tin coating to the surface of the SRF cavity is sputtering. Old Dominion University, Jefferson Lab, and Fermilab are collaborating on developing an optimized niobium-tin coating of the inside surface of niobium SRF cavities using a recently-developed cylindrical sputtering system. This research will result in optimized sputtering coating techniques leading to high efficiency SRF structures.

A Third Generation Potentially Bifunctional Trithiol Chelate, Its nat,1XX Sb(III) Complex, and Selective Chelation of Radioantimony ( 119 Sb) from Its Sn Target

The therapeutic potential of the Meitner-Auger- and conversion-electron emitting radionuclide 119 Sb remains unexplored because of the difficulty of incorporating it into biologically targeted compounds. To address this challenge, we report the development of 119 Sb production from electroplated tin cyclotron targets and its complexation by a novel trithiol chelate. Here, the chelation reaction occurs in harsh solvent conditions even in the presence of large quantities of tin, which are necessary for production on small, low energy (16 MeV) cyclotrons. The 119 Sb-trithiol complex has high stability and can be purified by HPLC. The third generation trithiol chelate and the analogous stable nat Sb-trithiol compound were synthesized and characterized, including by single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses.
