Lithium-ion recycling is challenged by cost and safety related to low value elements and battery reactivity. OnTo is the first to demonstrate and develop technologies that address these challenges. Battery deactivation eliminates hazards and enables a roadmap for safe, low-cost end-of-life battery services essential to the industry. Deactivation coupled with Cathode-healing provides safety and efficiency in material recycling that can be applied all along the manufacturing value chain and for numerous chemistries in the market. Dr. Sloop will present recent developments in application and scale of these innovative technologies.
This technical report presents work conducted by the sub surface analysis team of the Strategic Systems Analysis & Engineering group at NETL for Task 5 of SMART Phase 1. This study involved the development of deep learning models for CO 2 geologic storage that are capable of accurate prediction of spatio-temporal outputs of CO 2 saturation, pressure, and brine production in three dimensional space over a storage operation's injection and post-injection timeframes. The model framework involves ensembling multi-layer encoder networks that provide dimesionality reduction of geologic inputs with fully connected long short-term memory (LSTM) neural networks that generate time-series prediction This approach offers a means to maximize training time efficiency, reduce computational memory burden, and minimize prediction turnaround.

Traditional metrics and evaluation methods for resiliency are not sufficient to evaluate the effect that distributed wind systems will have, particularly in light of the challenges described above. While the concept of resiliency is not new, its application to the electric grid is neither standardized nor well-defined, and there is little to no guidance on how to evaluate resilience specifically for distributed wind systems. To fill this gap, the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), as part of the multi-laboratory Microgrids, Infrastructure Resilience, and Advanced Controls Launchpad (MIRACL) project, has developed a resilience framework for electric energy delivery systems (EEDS). The framework provides detailed steps for evaluating resiliency in the planning, operational, and future stages, and encompasses five core functions of resilience. It allows users to evaluate the resilience of distributed wind, taking into consideration the resilience of the wind systems themselves, as well as the effect they have on the resiliency of any systems they are connected to. In this study, we evaluate the resilience of the distributed wind systems at Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative to cybersecurity hazards. We show that the wind resource can benefit the overall system resilience during some hazards. We show that the practices in place make the wind subsystems resilient against some cybersecurity hazards but that there are still significant risks associated with other cybersecurity hazards
This report presents components of a commercialize strategy to develop CCS operations in the region of the CarbonSAFE Macon County project. The report describes regional business considerations for specific business plans necessary for successful implementation at commercial scale. This report also provides a brief summary of the regional business climate for CCS in the study region.

This report serves as an independent assessment of the performance and cost of a generic sorbent-based direct air capture (DAC) system. The sorbent considered is not reflective of any one material type or functionalization approach; rather, it represents an approximate average of reported material performance in the literature. The system configuration represents what was judged to be the most reasonable configuration if these systems were to be deployed in the near term.

In 2020, the United States had a cumulative 19 gigawatts (GWdc) of residential solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity. A growing percentage of these solar installations are paired with battery storage, up from 0.1% in 2015 to 8.1% in 2020. Some states are considering or have already adopted policy mandates to require solar and storage systems. The cost of installing residential solar and battery storage projects remains a barrier to widespread adoption nationwide. For example, the cost of a typical residential retrofit solar and storage system ranges from $\$ 26,153$ to $\$ 37,909$, which is 38% to 100% higher than a standalone PV system.
