Cyclic oxidation behavior of selected commercial NiCr-alloys for engine exhaust valves in wet air environment between 800 and 950 °C

In this work, the impact of water vapor on the cyclic oxidation behavior of four commercial Ni-based superalloys (N80A, N90, R41 and H282) was investigated between 800 and 950°C. Oxidation- and volatilization-induced Cr loss accelerated the transition from protective and adherent oxide formation (Cr 2 O 3 ) to mixed oxides that significantly spalled at 950°C for H282 and R41. The accelerated oxidation, Cr depletion, and spallation susceptibility for R41 and to a lesser extent for H282 compared to N80A and N90 was related to the higher fraction of γ’, which led to increased Ti incorporation into the Cr 2 O 3 scale in the presence of water vapor.

Multiterminal High-Voltage dc Systems with Series-Parallel Valve Group-Based High-Voltage dc Substations

To transfer large amount of power over long distances, multiterminal direct current (MTdc) system based on bipole high-voltage direct current (HVdc) technology is a viable option. However, such system results in large dc transmission loss. The same can be reduced by increasing the dc voltage level. This paper introduces a new MTdc system architecture comprising of series (for increasing dc voltage level) and parallel (for increasing dc current capability) connected HVdc converters. The new architecture is compared with the bipole MTdc architecture in terms of equipment needed and dc transmission loss. The control modifications needed for the MTdc system are identified and the performance of the developed control is verified through electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulations.

Multi material/functionally graded wire arc additive manufacturing of high strength steel valves clad with nickel alloy 625 used for oil extraction

This Phase 1 technical collaboration project (ORNL/TM-2022/2683) began on August 1st, 2020 and concluded on July 31st, 2022. The collaboration partner Schlumberger is a large business enterprise assisting oil companies to extract oil from land and subsea cost competitively and safely. It is based in Houston, Texas USA. In this work as study of additive deposition of AWS EF100S-G and AWS ERNiCrMo-3 wires via wire-arc process was conducted.
